TRANSCRIPT
Mosquitoes:
Ponding of irrigation water is a primary source of rural
mosquito outbreaks. A site visit from our staff can help isolate
and correct any water management concerns on your
property.
Pasture Health:
A good irrigation schedule reduces weeds, improves stand health, and frees up more of
your time.
Water Quality:

Irrigation water ponding is one of the primary
causes of rural Mosquito outbreaks. The Small
Acreage Visit can help adjust your irrigation to
reduce Mosquitoes without hurting yields.
Pasture HealthPasture Health
Does battling the Valley heat also mean battling
Mosquitoes? Are you surprised that the desert can
be home to severe Mosquito outbreaks?
MosquitoesMosquitoes
Irrigation. No other input has close to the impact
on the health of your crop or pasture. How you
apply water is key to maintaining a healthy stand
of hay or alfalfa.
A healthier pasture means more feed for your
animals, less weed problems and reduced
incidence of livestock health problems.
The Small Acreage Irrigation Visit will assist you
with an irrigation schedule specific for your
irrigation system, soil type, and pasture.
The Upper Colorado River system has become a
model for water quality stewardship.
Improvements in on and off farm water
management has reduced salt loading to the
Colorado River system by millions of tons in
the last 20 years.
Local Irrigators are anxious to maintain this
high standard of stewardship. The Small
Acreage Irrigation Visit helps preserve the
Colorado as a healthy river for all to enjoy.
The Small Acreage Irrigation Visit is offered in Mesa County. Contact your local Small Acreage Irrigation Ambassador, Darrell Rule to set up a visit or consultation: (970) 270-2161
Each visit includes a examination of soil types, irrigation scheduling, and opportunities to reduce labor input and improve pasture or crop health.
The first visit, along with a single soil sample is provided free of charge.
With thanks to funding partners: Grand River Mosquito Control District
The SMALL ACREAGE IRRIGATION VISIT was developed (2010) by Colorado State University Extension with support from Mesa County, the
Grand River Mosquito Control District, local Conservation Districts, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA).
