Duty of Care

• Duty of care means accepting responsibility for the health and safety of people in the workplace. It applies to employers, employees and volunteers.

• Clubs, services and individual Lifeguards have a duty of care while on the beach. This duty of care is not only to you but to others.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

It is your responsibility

The Drowning Chain

The four links in the chain:

• Ignorance, disregard or mismanagement of danger

There are three different types of debriefing:

 • One to one hand overs (non incident) at the end of a shift

• Operational debriefs at the end of an incident or campaign

• Critical incident debriefs, for managing acute stress situations.
