In 2017, the council completed phase 1 ofthe Slough Mass Rapid Transit scheme fromDover Road to High Street Langley todeliver a more frequent, quicker and morereliable bus service for bus commuterstravelling along the A4 Bath Road.
We are now extending the scheme as partof phase 2 from High Street Langley to theeastern borough boundary and Heathrow.The scheme will encourage use ofsustainable transport for commuterstravelling between Slough Trading Estate,Slough Train Station, Langley andHeathrow airport.
The works aim to improve journey times,reduce congestion, enhance transportinterchanges and support regeneration inSlough.
In order to deliver this scheme, we havereceived funding from the Thames ValleyBerkshire Local Enterprise Partnership tointroduce phase 2 of the SMaRT scheme butbefore we go ahead with the scheme wewant to make sure that residents,businesses and statutory consultees havethe opportunity to have their say.
What are we proposing?
The following works are proposed:
SMaRT Phase 2 - the section fromHigh Street Langley and A4 LondonRoad junction to the M4 junction 5roundabout • Public realm enhancements on the
northern frontage of the A4 betweenLangley High Street and the M4 Junction5 roundabout (the Langley Interchange)are being proposed to enhance the‘gateway’ to Slough.
• Bus stop improvements.
• Localised changes to signs and lines onapproaches.
• Widening the south east quadrant of theM4 Junction 5 roundabout from 3 to 4lanes with modifications to the slip roadfor eastbound traffic.
• Creating a second lane on London Roadon the westbound approach to the M4junction 5 roundabout includingimprovements to facilitate the SMaRTscheme.
Sutton Lane and A4 London Roadjunction • Modifying the London Road/Sutton
Lane/Colnbrook Bypass gyratory.Pedestrian and cycle crossings onLondon Road will be improved and busstop waiting areas upgraded to providefor bus users to and from the residential,commercial and hotel properties.
• To the east of Colnbrook Bypass,carriageway realignment, safety worksand enhancing bus stops at LakesideRoad, including provision of shelters.
• Introducing a new Park and Ride facilityincluding cycle hub facility in order toreduce congestion into the town centre.
• Junction improvement works for accessand egress into the proposed Park andRide facility. In order to provide accessfor cars, buses and bicycles.
• Upgrading the existing National CycleNetwork route 61 (NCN 61) to make it amore attractive option for cyclistscommuting to and from Heathrow.
• New traffic signals including installationof MOVA (smart controlled signals at thejunctions) and junction improvementworks on the Sutton Lane gyratory.
• Extension of the existing eastbound buslane from High street Langley towardsHeathrow.
• Localised changes to signs and lines onapproaches.
