TheSlatesystemperformsbestintheFirefoxandChromebrowsers.

ToaccesstheSlatesystem,openyourbrowserofchoiceandenterthefollowingaddress:

LoginusingyourCNETIDandPassword.

Onceanapplicationisstarted,itexistsasavirtualfilewithinSlate,whichmovesthroughouttheprocessinavarietyofways–actionstakenbytheapplicant,administrator,andreaderscanchangethestatusandlocationofthisvirtualfile.Someofthishappensautomatically,butalmosteverythingcanbedone,oroverridden,manually.

Slateitselfhasseveralcomponents,oneofwhichisabuiltinsystemformanagingandviewingtheseapplications.ThisportionofSlateiscalledthe“Reader.”

ToaccesstheReaderinSlate,gotothesiteapply-graham.uchicago.edu/manage/orclickontheReaderbutton:

YouwillstartoutintheReader’s“Home”section,withnavigationchoicesontheleftside:

Home–bringsyoubacktotheHomescreenoftheReader.Browse–ShowsyouthenumberofapplicationscurrentlycontainedineachBin.Binsarevirtualholdingcontainersforapplicationsastheygothroughthestagesofreview.Applicationscanbemovedtocategorizetheirstageinthereadingcycle.ClickonaBinboxtoseealistoftheapplicationswithinthatbin.

Search–showsalistofallapplicationsinyourcluster.Tosearchforaspecificapplication,typetheapplicant’sname(last,first)intothesearchboxlocatedintheupperrightcornerofthescreen.Youcanalsoapplyoneormoreavailablefiltersfromthedrop-downsectionontherighttoidentifyfilesthatmeetyourdesiredcriteria.

Queue–isthestorageplaceforapplicationsforyourreview.Administratorsmayputapplicationsinyourqueueforrevieworyoucanputthemthereyourself.TousetheSlateReviewForm,anapplicationhastobeinyourqueue.Recent–showsapplicationsyou’veviewedinthepast.Share–allowsforasharedscreensessionwithotherlogged-inSlateusers.Classify–isanewfeatureunderdevelopmentthatwillallowtemporarybinmovementtoviewpotentialadmissionnumbers.Help–containsadditionalinformationonusingtheReaderfunctioninSlate.Exit–closestheReader.

Readinganapplication

Toreadanapplicationfromthesearchwindow,clickonthe icon.Thiswillopentheapplication“Reader”inSlate.

Thelistofapplicationcomponentsisontheleftside–darkergreyitemsareavailabletobeclickedonorscrolledthrough;lightergreytextmeansthatitemisnotpresentinthefile.

YoucanaddanapplicationtoyourQueuetoreviewitbyclickingonthe“AddtoQueue”boxinthelowerlefthandcorner.

SharedReaderSession

Slatecanbeusedtoconductasharedscreensessiontoreviewapplicationsasagrouponseparatescreens.Thisfunctionalityallowsagroupofauthenticateduserstoreviewasingleapplication.Controlofthesharedscreenismadebytheuserwhoinitiatesthesessionandotherswhosignoncanthenelecttoparticipateandviewthesharedsession.

Tostartasharedsession,clickontheSharenavigationbuttonontheleft-handside.ThenclickonStartSession.

Afterthesharedsessionisestablished,thewindowwillupdatetoshowyouarehostingasharedsession.YoucanthennavigatetoanapplicationandanythingyoudointheReaderwillbevisibletootherparticipants.Toclosethesession,navigatebacktoShareandclickonCloseSession.

Tojoinasessioninprogress,clickonthesessionfromthelist.Awindowwillaskforconfirmationthatyouwishtojointhesession.

YouwillnowseethatyouareconnectedtothesharedsessionandcanexitbyclickingonLeaveSession.
