Page 3: Sky’s the Limit- inspiration first

What does breaking the 4 minute mile tell us about the limits we set on ourselves?• Limits are imaginary! We can do anything we set our mind

to if we have the desire and willingness to put in the effort• Have you ever achieved something great in your life that

you thought would be impossible to achieve?• Is there anything you still find to be impossible?• How can you make the impossible, possible?

Surpass Your Expectations!Reach Beyond Your

Dreams!Don't Cut Yourself Short!

What does Brock the football player tell us about our potential to achieve great things?• Negative thinking will only rob us of being the best we

can be• Has anyone ever “cut themselves short” of achieving great

things by setting weak goals?• What can you learn from that experience?• How will you change your goals in the future?

• By setting bold goals, we expand our potential to succeed

Could Brock have made it to the end zone without the help of his coach?• Why do you think the coaches motivation helped Brock to reach

beyond his goals?• What does this say about setting goals for ourselves?

• Sometimes we need an extra push to give us the strength to believe in ourselves

• Sometimes we need guidance from someone with wisdom to help us set goals• Has anybody ever needed an extra push to achieve a goal?• What should we look for in a “coach?”• What is the coaches job in a game? What is the players job?• Can one function without the other?• Who is your “coach”?

What is a SMART GOAL?

•Short term•Measurable•Action Oriented•Reasonable•Time Specific

Page 8: Sky’s the Limit- inspiration first

Short Term Goals

• Try and set a goal you can accomplish in the near future. Perhaps your short term goals could help you achieve a long term goal.• Instead of “Become a doctor” try “Study Hard,

then Graduate High School, then Go to college”

Page 9: Sky’s the Limit- inspiration first

Measurable Goals

• Set a goal that you can measure with numbers.• Eg: Instead of “Study, Practice Basketball, Go to

school”; try “Study every day for 20 minutes; practice every Thursday for 1 hour; increase attendance to 5 days a week”

Page 10: Sky’s the Limit- inspiration first

Action Oriented Goals

•Put in the work! • Instead of “get better grades”; try “study, see after school tutor, show up to class etc”

Page 11: Sky’s the Limit- inspiration first

Reasonable Goals

• It’s okay to set the bar high, but make sure the goal is physically possible.• Eg: If you’re failing a course with a 20% avg.,

and there's 1 day left in the marking period; don’t set a goal to get a 100% for the quarter. Instead, set a goal to ace the class next quarter.

Time Specific Goals

•Give yourself a deadline to avoid procrastination.• Instead of “practice my jump shot”, try “make 300 jump shots in the next hour” or “by tomorrow”
