Let him sit a while at the bar and keep his eye on the door for your entrance. When you walk in don't be tempted to look at the other men staring...look directly at him. This outfit is under-stated but speaks volumes...class, style, power and confidence. Complex layers that will have his head spinning.

Jolly, warmth and joy are usually feelings associated with the holiday seasons, but so are blues, unexplainable bouts of tears and overall confusion. I do my best to cover a variety of real life issues that affect us all on a daily basis and this month we will discuss seasonal affective disorder (SAD), also known as winter depression or winter blues. SAD is a mood disorder in which individuals who have normal mental health throughout most of the year repeatedly experience depressive symptoms in the winter, year after year. Some people experi-ence a serious mood change when the seasons change. They
might over sleep, have little energy, and crave sweets and starchy foods. They may also feel depressed. Though symptoms can be se-vere, they usually clear up once the seasonal influences are gone. It has been estimated that 1.5 to 9 percent of adults in the US ex-perience SAD. Although SAD is not a permanent condition treat-ment should be sought. Some treatment options are light therapy which encompasses bright lights, antidepressant medication, cog-nitive-behavioral therapy and carefully timed supplementation of the hormone melatonin. If you feel that SAD is affecting you please contact your insurance company for an appropriate referral.
QHi, I am 32 years old and have recently started go-ing to the gym and eating better. I am 5’6 and 340 pounds. The first week I lost 11pounds and was so motivated and happy but now I am not seeing the same results and feeling depressed and not motivat-ed anymore. I have lost a total of 24pounds but you
wouldn’t know it by looking at me. I used to think I was happy but now I’m sad all the time. What gives? -Stunia

Hi, I am 17 years and I have never had a boyfriend before. I have talked to older people about this and they all say I’m young, don’t worry. I think they don't know how I feel. I believe it’s because I’m plus sized. I wouldn't be so worried if it wasn’t my senior year and senior prom wasn’t around the cor-ner. I think guys don’t like me because I’m plus sized. I dress nice, I smell good. I’m more than presentable, what should I do? - AuVonna
Q The way you smell or dress has nothing to do with you not having a boyfriend. Your friends are right though. You are young and chances are the boys in your high school are also young. There are many boys and men who love plus size women. If you haven’t met one yet you will soon. Think of it this way; if they are too in-secure to show that they are interested why would you want to date them? You are a goddess and should be treated as one. Team up with a couple single friends and go to prom together, or bring a friend along. At least this way you won’t have to cut “him” out of the photos in six months when it doesn’t work out!

There are a couple of things that need to be addressed with your questions. First, once we get older our metabolism stops working the way it used to when we were teenag-ers. That’s where the whole “ the way you eat today will catch up with you later” saying comes in. Second, what was your goal weight loss? We need to remember when setting goals that they not only be safe, but attainable. The fact that you have lost 24 pounds and are now de-pressed should be a warning sign that weight wasn’t the problem. Keep in mind that when we carry more weight it takes more weightloss for it to be noticeable. Another thing to do is to remember to reinforce yourself for all the positive things that you are doing. Try some positive affirmations as soon as you wake up and again before you go to bed. The power of mind is an amazing thing!
What is the correct way to handle the skinny woman stranger, who is acting as the food monitor of my plate? -M
QA lot of times it’s easier to address this type of situa-tion with someone familiar than a stranger since you don’t know how they will react. In a published study; it was shown that an individual’s negative reaction to an overweight person is caused because they or someone in their family is or was overweight. It’s a displaced concern which is negatively portrayed. The only proper way to address this is to be polite. Remember the old saying “kill them with kindness” and smile.
