SKINNER’S WORLD CUP

RETRIEVER EVENT

I am delighted to welcome you to our 2018 Skinner’s Retriever World Cup. We are honoured to be hosting the event at Hamstead Park and we are extremely grateful to our host Mr Tim Gwyn Jones. This is now our 17th consecutive year, the 8th I have attended, the stand-ard of our handlers and canine friends improves every year. Last year’s winners, Denmark with their time and dedication, training every week from January proves that hard work really does pay off. I would like to make a special welcome to our first Russian team led by Julia, they have had quite a journey from Moscow and beyond. Peter Castleman has set you some challenging tests which I know you will enjoy, proving your skills to our team of judges. Good luck to you all, I look forward to meeting you all again and shar-ing a great weekend with you.

SKINNER’S WORLD CUP

Introduction

SKINNER’S WORLD CUP

History of the world cup The Skinner’s World Cup Retriever Event is now in its seventeenth year and we are proud to sponsor what is recognised as the most prestigious gundog working test in the world. This year we are hoping to welcome fifteen teams representing their countries to compete for the coveted title. For the first four years, the beautiful grounds of Sherborne Castle in Dorset were the setting, by kind permission of Mr John Wingfield-Digby. In 2006, the Event moved to Highclere Castle in Berkshire, the home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon and the setting for ITV’s period drama “Downton Abbey”. Having outgrown the estate at Highclere, we moved our Event to Englefield Es-tate near Reading in 2015 by kind permission of Mr Richard Benyon & his wife, Zoe. In 2017 we took the world cup to Cawdor by kind permission from The Dowager Countess Cawdor and The Earl and Lady Cawdor. 2018 bring us to a whole new destination, Hamstead Park in Berkshire, by kind permission of Mr Tim Gwyn Jones. I'm sure you will all agree the estate is beauti-ful. Almost as popular as the tests themselves are the dinners hosted at the Hotel which offer an ideal opportunity to mix and socialise with friends, both new and old. Friday night is the informal “meet the teams” dinner and on Saturday night it is the more formal Gala Dinner. In the past, some of the team members have worn their traditional costumes to the Gala Dinner - we are always delighted to see the handsome Scotsmen in their kilts and the ladies from Austria in their beautiful long Tyrolean dresses.
