Hello SCOLers!
Wow, this season has been quite a ride! We had spring conditions
in January, awesome winter conditions on the west trip, and
even extraordinary snow on the East trip. You name it, we have
skied it. But with all that Mother Nature has thrown at us, the
Members of SCOL have persevered and we kicked her butt!!!
Even though our membership goal came up a couple short, our
participation level has been tremendous! From the social
members to the hardest core riders to the weekday crew, SCOL
had a presence on the hill, in town, at happy hours, at events and
on social media. The SCOL ski season calendar was full of
successful activities again this year and we thank everyone who
put in the effort to organize and pull off these fun times.
Although the ski season draws to a close, we still have one important event left. The Installation
Dinner at the end of April will cap off another great year. We had great participation in our
election process and I thank everyone who stepped up to run for an office and/or board
position. The out going board of directors deserves a big “THANK YOU”, as they have guided
the club through a busy season all the while keeping the best interest of SCOL first. I thank all of
you for making my first year as President truly enjoyable and fulfilling. I am excited to see what
the new board finds waiting around the corner for SCOL!
Please make every effort to promote our great club during the off season and keep in touch
with the club via the website and Facebook page. I look forward to seeing everyone at our last
meeting on April 19th and at the Installation Dinner on April 29th. I wish everyone a safe and
healthy summer!!!
SKI YA SOON!!

SCOL BICYCLE RIDE AND
DINNER!!
WHEN: Sunday, July 16th, 2017. Meet at 3:30 pm sharp in the parking lot behind Lock 34. We will
be seated for dinner at Lock 34 restaurant at 6:30pm. Access to the parking lot is off Locust
Street.
WHERE: Plan to meet ride leaders Ken Urtel, Paul and Margo Covell behind the Lock 34
restaurant Main Street Lockport for a ride to Pendleton, NY and back along the historic Erie
Canal. The ride to Pendleton and back to Lockport should take about 2 ½ hours after which
we will adjourn to the Lock 34 Restaurant for food and refreshments. We will reserve seating for
30 people at 6:30 PM. We can order off the menu and receive separate checks. Those not
wishing to ride can join us at 6:30 for dinner at Lock 34; however priority for reserved seating will
be for those doing the ride.
RIDE DETAILS: Those wishing to ride a shorter distance can simply turn around at any point along
the way and ride back to Lockport. The path along the canal is mostly paved and we may
have to ride 2 miles on the East Canal Road. Limited sag wagon support will be available,
however motor vehicles are not allowed on the bike path which may necessitate walking to
the next access road in the event of a breakdown. We will be riding at a relaxing pace; but
riders should make sure that they and their bicycles are in good condition, and that they have
proper riding gear (helmet, riding clothes, wallet with ID, medical and emergency contact
information, adequate water, snacks, spare tube, tools, etc.). At the halfway point, we will
stop at Uncle G’s ice cream stand for dessert before dinner.
HOW TO SIGN UP: We will need to let Lock 34 restaurant know in advance how many seats to
reserve. Hence a signup sheet for the ride and dinner will be available at upcoming SCOL
meetings or you can contact Ken Urtel by phone (716)799-3318 or email at [email protected]
anytime before July 2, 2017. No money will be collected as all participants are responsible for
their own needs at this event.

President Bill Fekete summed it up best; "It was a great ski trip that could not have been any
better". We had a sunny Sunday at Lake Louise and I’m sorry I forgot to pray to mother nature for
more sun. We had winter conditions with fresh snow during the week. Thanks to Ullr the snow god
for great overall snow conditions! We had a new generation of young Big Dogs. Come to the
meeting on the 19th to find out who. We have added more Trip Awards. Another reason to come
to the meeting on the 19th.
Here’s the bottom line...Non-stop larger aircraft, 2 per room at Banff Aspen Lodge (the best lodging
for large groups in Banff !), 700 jello shots, daily hot tub parties. 7 breakfasts, 6 lift tickets, all shuttles,
3 group dinners, awards and gifts = $1200.00 US!! We stretched out the Canadian dollar!! It must
have been a good trip since we slept for nine hours on the day we returned! Thanks to all SCOLERS
for making this an unforgettable adventure. Please join us at the meeting on the 19th for the rest of
the wrap up.

SCOL Luck O' the Irish Potluck was
held on March 18th on the
Cabana Deck at Hol iday
Valley. The weather was not as
nice as previous years but as
SCOLers, we made the most of it
as usual. We had a great turnout,
good food and drink along with
good friends! Many thanks go out
to Greg Stang for the use of his grill
and grilling expertise along with his
grilling helpers. Thank you to all
who brought the delicious dishes
to pass and to everyone that
generously donated their time to
stay a little longer and help with
the clean up!
Thank you again to all!
