The 41st Season forges into the future with artists who engage musical traditions in forward-thinking ways. Chick Corea $10,000 August 8 Jazz legend Chick Corea makes his Festival debut, and you can expect a thrill because Chick never plays it safe! He’ll be joined by the Spanish Heart Quartet, a flamenco-charged ensemble. They just won the Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album, Chick’s 23rd. He is “a luminary, ebullient and eternally youthful.” (New York Times) Rhiannon Giddens $7,500 August 15 A Grammy and MacArthur Genius grant-winner, Rhiannon Giddens is genre- busting musician who is redefining American music. Rhiannon is also a recipient of the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, host of the Metropolitan Opera’s Aria Code podcast, and was a featured actress on the hit-TV show Nashville. Time for Three $5,000 August 22 The fun-loving Time for Three are both classically trained virtuosos and inventive improvisers – their performances bring together classical, jazz, Americana, and pop in winning ways. Their motto is: “If we like it, we play it.” Artistic Directors Julia Bruskin, cello & Aaron Wunsch, piano $5,000 August 4, 6, 11, 14, 18, 25, 27, 29 Co-Artistic Directors, Julia and Aaron will perform throughout the season. They will be featured on Opening Night as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of Beethoven’s birth and The Russian Soul with music by Stravinsky and Shostakovich. ECCO (East Coast Chamber Orchestra) $5000 August 20, 21, and 22 The peerless string orchestra ECCO (East Coast Chamber Orchestra) brings its signature enthusiasm and “tonal radiance” back to Skaneateles. (New York Times) Consisting of lead players from the world’s great ensembles and orchestras, their performances are both virtuosic and full of joy. Calidore String Quartet $4,000 August 13 and 14 The “astonishing” Calidore Quartet (L. A. Times) is the winner of almost every major ensemble competition, including the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant. The Quartet has drawn near universal praise, including “four more individual musicians are unimaginable, yet these speak, breathe, think and feel as one.” (Washington Post).
