Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order Feast Day In the middle of the 13th century, Florence, Italy was torn with political strife, low morals and meaningless religion. In 1240 seven noblemen mutually decided to withdraw from the city to a solitary place for prayer and direct service of God. They withdrew to a deserted mountain, built a church and her-mitage, and lived in austerity. Their bishop made them adopt a rule and accept recruits. They chose to live under the rule of St. Augustine and adopted the name of the Servants of Mary. Members of the community came to the United States in 1852 and combined monastic life and active ministry. In the monastery, they led a life of prayer, work, and silence. While in the active apostolate, they engaged in teaching, preaching, and parochial work. There are no mountains here in Louisburg to withdraw to, but may we imitate their willingness to be guided to lives of prayer and service.

Purifying the Heart
Jesus is very practical about what can corrupt our hearts. He identifies anger, lust, and dishonesty as hidden viruses
capable of damaging, and even destroying, our integrity, our very souls.
But if we are honest with ourselves, all of us will have to admit that we struggle with temptation in each of these areas.
So what are we to do? Are we simply doomed? When Jesus looks at our hearts, does he look away in
disgust? No! He comes with the medicine of His grace to cure us. We just have to give Him the chance. And today's First Reading tells us how: "If you choose," the
Book of Sirach tells us, "you can keep the commandments; they will save you."
Every day of our lives, we remain free to choose which thoughts and actions we will commit to, godly ones, or selfish ones.
When a lustful thought flashes through our minds, we don't have to accept it - we can reject it and turn to Jesus and Mary instead.
When selfish anger boils up in our hearts, we don't have to let it rule our lives - we can turn to Christ on the cross and learn from Him how to turn the other cheek.
When we are tempted to get ahead by compromising the truth, we can hold our tongues and cling to Sirach's promise: “Before man are life and death, good and evil, whichever he chooses shall be given him."
Jesus wants us to choose life, a fulfilling life here on earth and eternal life with Him in Heaven, by choosing to reject temp-tation and follow Him.
He gives us the grace we need to make that choice, every day. Let’s thank Him for that, and put His grace to good use.

Knights of Columbus News
The council donated $500 to the Kansans for Life Fund. This
fund is helping to get a state constitutional amendment that will address the outcome of case Hodes & Nauser vs Schmidt,
in which the ruling created a "right" to nearly unregulated abor-tion in the State Constitution. This case allows live dismember-ment abortion to continue in Kansas. The leaders of this fund believe there is a good possibility to achieve the votes in the state legislature needed for a constitutional amendment.
February Knight of the Month: Benny Rice Benny was instrumental organizing and leading the parish work-day held in the church basement February 1. All-new LED lights were installed, walls were painted, and the kitchen was deep cleaned. Family of the Month: John & Ann Capuro, and their son Nate. The Capuros worked as a family and played a key role in getting the church basement painted during the parish workday.
Interested In the Knights of Columbus? The Knights held a recruitment weekend in November, passing out sign-up cards after the Masses. Please drop those com-pleted cards in the collection basket at Mass soon, so the coun-cil can reach out to you. Or feel free to contact Dan Wieland directly, 913-548-6412, [email protected], for informa-tion on getting started. The council will hold a degree ceremony soon, so it's a perfect time to get involved!
