Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

From the Administrator Often you have heard me say that here at St. John’s we are truly blessed. It’s true; we are blessed, because we have a community that strives to grow in holiness. This past week I was mediating on the vitality of our beautiful parish. I looked at my calendar for the week and thought to myself, “Wow, there are so many great things happening here.” Our groups are growing, and new groups and other forms of evangelization have begun, because the power of Christ is compelling our parish community to do whatever it takes to draw more people to Jesus.

This weekend’s scripture readings invite us to meditate on what it means to be “blessed”. Ultimately, we are blessed when we give ourselves totally to God and follow His way. Those who follow the ways of the world are cursed, while those trust in the Lord are truly blessed. Although following Christ can be difficult there is plenty of hope. Often times we hear negative news about our faith and our church, especially as we see the numbers of Catholics who practice their faith decrease. However, in times such as these there is call for a renewed hope. We never forget that Jesus is victorious, he came and accomplished the mission of His heavenly father and has offered salvation to all. We must be a people of great hope in the midst of despair and negativity, because Jesus is waiting to do amazing things. Our Lord needs us and that is why we are truly blessed when we avoid all forms of evil and cling to Christ.

There is cause for joy because Christ has conquered death, rescued us from our sins, and has chosen us to share this good news with all who desire to hear it. The gift of our faith causes us joy because it instills in us the desire to grow in knowledge and love of God and His will. The Catholic Church, founded by Jesus himself gives us the nourishment that sustains us in this life and in the life to come. Our parish community of St. John Chrysostom is a beacon of hope allowing us, poor sinners, to be renewed and healed by our heavenly father. Yes, we are blessed, because here we want to know, love, and server God and one another. May we continue to grow as a community reaching out to one another in Christ.

Sexto Domingo Del Tiempo Ordinario Del Administrador

A menudo me han escuchado decir que aquí en San Juan Crisóstomo estamos verdaderamente bendecidos. Es verdad; somos bendecidos, porque tenemos una comunidad que se esfuerza por crecer en santidad. La semana pasada estaba mediando sobre la vitalidad de nuestra hermosa parroquia. Miré mi calendario de la semana y pensé para mí mismo: "Vaya, hay muchas cosas maravillosas que están sucediendo aquí". Nuestros grupos están creciendo, y nuevos grupos y otras formas de evangelización han comenzado, porque el poder de Cristo está obligando a nuestra Comunidad parroquial para hacer lo que sea necesario para atraer a más personas a Jesús. Las lecturas de las Escrituras de este fin de semana nos invitan a meditar sobre lo que significa ser "bendecido". En última instancia, somos bendecidos cuando nos entregamos totalmente a Dios y seguimos su camino. Los que siguen los caminos del mundo están malditos, mientras que los que confían en el Señor son verdaderamente bendecidos. Aunque seguir a Cristo puede ser difícil, hay mucha esperanza. Muchas veces escuchamos noticias negativas sobre nuestra fe y nuestra iglesia, especialmente cuando vemos que disminuye el número de católicos que practican su fe. Sin embargo, en tiempos como estos hay un llamado a una esperanza renovada. Nunca olvidamos que Jesús es victorioso, vino y cumplió la misión de su padre celestial y ha ofrecido la salvación a todos. Debemos ser un pueblo de grandes esperanzas en medio de la desesperación y la negatividad, porque Jesús está esperando hacer cosas asombrosas. Nuestro Señor nos necesita y es por eso que somos verdaderamente bendecidos cuando evitamos todas las formas del mal y nos aferramos a Cristo. Hay motivo de alegría porque Cristo conquistó la muerte, nos rescató de nuestros pecados y nos eligió para compartir esta buena noticia con todos los que deseen escucharla. El don de nuestra fe nos causa alegría porque nos inculca el deseo de crecer en el conocimiento y el amor de Dios y su voluntad. La Iglesia Católica, fundada por el mismo Jesús, nos da el alimento que nos sostiene en esta vida y en la vida venidera. Nuestra comunidad parroquial de San Juan Crisóstomo es un faro de esperanza que nos permite, pobres pecadores, ser renovados y sanados por nuestro padre celestial. Sí, somos bendecidos, porque aquí queremos saber, amar y servir a Dios y unos a otros. Que continuemos creciendo como una comunidad que se extiende unos a otros en Cristo.
