Suspensions It is with great disappointment that the School announces that two pupils have been suspended from School for anti-social behaviour, and cheating in examinations. The School expects the highest standard of behaviour from the whole School community, at all times. Photography in School: Opt-out Release The use of images of children at School is obviously highly important to communicate what Tenby SEP does to both current and potential parents, but the School must be certain that such images are not used inappropriately or by any persons without consent. In order to manage this, a ‘Photography Opt-out Release Form’ will be mailed to all parents. Replies only required from those parents who wish to ‘opt out’. Congratulations SST SST have staged two wonderful ‘showcases’ for junior and senior students and their parents this week. Has Tenby got talent? Yes – it certainly has. Sixth Form Options It must be an anxious time for Year 11 pupils deciding their Tenby A ‘level Courses. It is hoped the special ‘Taster Day’ arranged earlier this week will have helped the ‘mist to clear’. Thank you PE Department School Fixtures on Saturdays, Sundays, mid-week, Inter- House matches; thank you PE Department for ‘going the extra mile’. Well done to all pupils representing with pride the School or their House. Notable successes in recent competitions are detailed elsewhere in the Newsletter. Good luck to those 130 pupils who will assemble at School at 06:15hrs this Sunday morning to participate in the Cross Country Competition at Nexus School. Come on Tenby! Over 180 pupils now regularly having Instrumental Tuition at School; including 4 pupils learning the Harp Well done Music Department for arranging so many pupils to begin individual Music Tuition with an array of top class professional, visiting musicians. Adult Community Choir for Parents, Staff and Friends of the School TONIGHT at 19:00hrs until 20:30hrs In the Auditorium The first ever rehearsal takes place for a Tenby School SEP Community Choir in the Auditorium this evening; all are most welcome. Act of Remembrance: Sunday 9th November at 08:00hrs The School will be represented at a special Ceremony at 08:00hrs on Sunday at Tugu Negara, Jalan Parliament {near Lake Gardens}. The Ceremony will honour those who gave their lives for peace in both World Wars and other conflicts up until the present day. This year marks the Centenary of the beginning of the tragic First World War which claimed so many lives, and the end of that War at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month. This Act of Remembrance is held in Commonwealth countries throughout the world, and two minutes’ silence will be observed. Earlier this week there was a special Secondary TIS and SST Assemblies explaining about the poppy as a symbol of remembrance. The very poignant theme tune from the film Schindler’s List was wonderfully performed by Christopher Chan {violin} and Mr. Shen {piano} and was received in silence, and students dutifully observed the request to depart from Assembly in silence. LMW Creative Challenge 2014 On Sunday 2nd November, 2014 some of our Creative Crafting CCA students attended the LMW Creative Challenge 2014, Inter-School Competition. Skate Bandung 2014 Thamitira Rooban from Class 1T represented Malaysia in Skate Bandung 2014 from 31st October to 2nd November. We are delighted to share that she won two silvers and two bronzes for all four events that she participated in.

TENBY SCOUTS “BUAT SEHABIS BAIK” CAMP 2014 by Mr. Kwa Friday 31st October – Sunday 2nd November, 3 Days 2 Nights with 16 students at Tenby Schools’ Field, Setia Eco Park. Thank you to the volunteers, Pn. Shermalin, Pn. Premila, Ms. Reeka and Mr. Eddie offer to help. Thanks to the school management - Tenby Scouts, currently have a Scout Den, located at the schools’ field.

We offer activities, including swimming, kayaking, abseiling, and staged performance. With Scouts, young people also get the chance to develop skills in IT, PR and mechanics. There’s something for every young person, whatever their ability. Activities are a crucial part of Scouting and essential when providing an exciting, rewarding and memorable experience for young people. The 207 Petaling Troop is

doing a great job in ensuring that our growth in Cub Scout numbers leads the pack once more. I look forward to following their progress.

Our activity badges allow Scouts to demonstrate their progress in various pursuits, and help them to form new interests. They are usually awarded when a young person has completed a challenging yet achievable set of requirements.

Each section has at least one Chief Scout's Award; ranked bronze, silver, and gold. Many older Scouts also complete the various parts of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The King's Scout Award marks the pinnacle of effort and achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members.

Second Annual Primary Multitalent Day Tenby is always brimming with talented students. To show the many unique and amazing talents, Sekolah Sri Tenby held the Second Annual Multitalent Day on Monday 3rd November at the EPC. Multitalent day this year was again a showcase of talents of the children who had experienced the activities during all the four Academic Weeks. The students worked hard to put on fantastic shows with 3-D model presentations, short plays, storytelling and singing. With the enthusiastic students, innovative teachers and the great turned out of supporting parents, Multitalent Day was a trumpeting success.

After the showcase of the Primary students, all the parents stayed back for a

short discussion about “Maximizing Students Potential”. They were briefed on all

the school initiatives to leash out children’s potential and parents too raised their

interest in this aspect. Among the school initiatives which are related to

Illustrator cum Author Session with Std 4S The Standard 4S students attended a fun-filled session on Thursday 6th November with Korky Paul who is a British Illustrator of children’s books. Korky entertained them with a story that brought them to a world of their own imagination. As the children drew their own dinosaurs, Korky went to every child and shared some drawing and colouring tips. At the end of the session, the class created a “gallery” where a mini exhibition was held. It was quite amazing to see how the children were able to express themselves in their drawings. The children viewed all the drawings before they left. His books were available for sale at the servery. Some of the students bought his book and got his autograph.

Sixth Form Taster Day On Tuesday 4th November Year 11 pupils had the exciting opportunity to sample life in Tenby Sixth Form as part of the Sixth Form Taster Day. Pupils picked a range of subjects to try out and were challenged with engaging and stimulating activities. Many pupils were seen to be enjoying the benefits of the Sixth Form common room at lunch time and the whole day was a very positive and rewarding experience for the pupils and staff alike. Hopefully the whole day will help some of the Year 11s who have not quite decided on their subject choices for the Sixth Form to make their decisions.

My time at Camp… Year 7 Keisha 7E We did many different activities, such as river trekking, outdoor cooking, and rock climbing (unfortunately it was raining! ) I had fun in river trekking, as the water was cool, while the weather was hot. Everyone, including me, learnt: Stay Positive. Be Responsible. Challenge by Choice. Appreciate Relationships, and Safety Minded. We also learnt how to solve problems, and what the steps should be. They are: Ask Questions Brainstorm Compare Do Evaluate I learnt team-building skills, and how to work in a team, whether I liked them or not! The mini games were fun; we had to try to flip over mats and we also made a catapult out of rubber bands, string, and sticks. I generally had a fun time at camp, with my friends.

Year 8 Camp, October 2014 By Dhivya 8B I was asked to write an account of the Year 8 camp to Taiping, but I did not know how to write my introduction. Introductions are getting old, everyone writes them… I thought I’d jump straight to the activities (suffice to say the air was filled with excitement) Here goes! On the way, we stopped at the Gua Tempurung Caves. I was looking forward to caving the most, it was definitely the highlight of the trip- who wouldn’t savour the thrill of accelerating down mud slides and crawling through knee-deep water with stalactites a foot above their head?

Upon arrival in Taiping, we checked into our hotel, Legend Inn. It was so comfortable and ambient, I was practically squealing for the first ten minutes of our stay (and running through the corridor- and yes, my roommate and I locked ourselves out of our room twice). After a good night’s sleep (and chitchat!) and a delicious breakfast at our superb hotel, my group left to go for a strenuous jungle trek full of demanding slopes, followed by a delectable lunch at a seafood restaurant.

Once we finished our food, we embarked on a thrilling river cruise, where we saw eagles MERE METRES away from us. Then, we visited a charcoal factory, where we learned about charcoal’s heritage, history, and its traditional manufacturing process. Finally, we went on a mangrove walk, and spotted fiddler crabs, egrets and mudskippers in their natural habitat. After (heavy heartedly) checking out of Legend Inn on our last day, we visited the renowned Taiping Zoo, where we feasted our eyes on the diverse species and beautiful breeds of many animals, and amusing ourselves with their antics!

I feel this was my most memorable school camp, not only because it was an amazing experience but because the activities were enjoyable, rigorous and educational at the same time! My friends think the activities really bonded us together, and got us to know each other better (and even the teachers-when we were all singing together on the last night…) Plus we learned to encourage our friends when they were fearful in the caves, and

supported them when they felt like quitting during the jungle trek. It was truly a trip to remember!

We Are What We Eat in Year 1! The children in Y1 have been very busy this week learning all about healthy food. They have started to plant their own vegetables even used fruit and vegetables to create some artistic masterpieces. With the help of some very talented parents, the children produced some amazing, edible works of art!

Early Years Deepavali Assembly Last Friday the Early Years was filled with lots of fun and cheer when the children came into school in their costumes all ready for the Deepavali Assembly. Each class took turns to perform a dance and the children showcased some really good dance moves. Parents enjoyed the show tremendously and the teachers had a lot of fun dancing with the children. Thank you to all parents who came in to support us.

Ms. Yi Ling on Tour TIS Primary Music teacher, Ms. Yi Ling, will be absent from school for the next two weeks as she is giving a concert “Est-Dal” in Hungary with accomplished Hungarian Baritone Henrik Schutz and accompanist Anna Heibl.. Yi Ling has been invited to sing “Nine German Arias” by G.F. Handel. We are very fortunate to have such an accomplished professional musician teaching our children and we wish Yi Ling a very successful tour. Yi Ling has planned the lessons for all Primary classes and they will be taught by a temporary qualified music teacher, Ms. Dayang.
