Scientific symposia

Symposia led by invited speakers will be held on the following topics:

Thursday 9 September I982 Morning: Intravenous anaesthesia: obstetric anaesthesia. Afternoon: Pharmacokinetics: cellular effects of anaesthesia.

Friday 10 September 1982 Morning: Breathing systems: immunology. Afternoon: Acute pain: neuromuscular blockade.

Monday 13 September 1982 Morning: Local anaesthesia: infection in intensive care. Afternoon: Paediatric anaesthesia: toxicity of anaesthetics.

Tuesday 14 September 1982 Morning: Pain therapy: cardiovascular effects of anaesthesia. Afternoon: Teaching and training: neuro-anaesthesia.

Wednesduy 1.5 September 1982 Morning: Quality control in anaesthesia. Afternoon: Pulmonary problems in intensive care.

Free papers and films and posters will also be included in the Symposia.

Social programme

Wednesday 8 September 1982 Opening Ceremony followed by an Informal Reception at the Royal Festival Hall.

Thursduy 9 September 1982 Concert given by the English Chamber Orchestra conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas at the Royal Festival Hall followed by a musical display by the band of the Royal Marines ending with fireworks.

Day tours

Tours to a number of historic buildings and areas in and around London have been arranged for accompanying guests and delegates during the Congress; these will include Windsor Castle, Leeds Castle, Woburn Abbey, Oxford and Rlenheim Palace, the National Theatre, Westminster Abbey and Hever Castle.

Various British University Departments of Anaesthesia have indicated that they would welcome visits from Congress participants.
