Clamping unit with integrated short stroke cylinder

The SITEMA PowerStroke has been designed to hold and pull a clamping rod in one direction (the closing direction). It can be used in all applications that require powerful forces on a short working stroke. Forces up to 200 tons are possible on a stroke of 20 mm with a single unit, with the force being proportional to the applied closing pressure. This can be hydraulic (FSK type) or pneumatic (FSKP type).

Innovation for injection moulding machines and moulding presses

Working independently of the drive system, the PowerStroke resolves the conflict of aims between a fast closing stroke and a powerful working stroke. The drive system can now be optimised for shorter cycle times for opening and closing moulds or dies. The design engineer can choose between mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or motor-driven closure. This makes large, slow machines with high energy- consumption obsolete.

Fast closing stroke By a small cylinder or other suitable drive

The SITEMA PowerStroke is open and is not engaged.

Powerful working stroke The SITEMA PowerStroke locks onto the rod and pulls the mould halves together.

Safety advantage for a pneumatic assembly stationThe dimensions of the pneumatic cylinder for moving the punch can be very small. The closing force will only be applied once the two parts are already in contact, when it is no longer possible to gain access to the danger area (middle view in the figure above).

Operating principle

The PowerStroke clamps a smooth, round rod and pushes it with great force at a defined rate of travel (short stroke).

When the mould is being opened and closed, the PowerStroke is released (pressure at port L) and motion is not impaired.

When the mould halves are in contact, the PowerStroke locks onto the rod with the proven self-intensifying clamping principle (port L pressure-free).

FUNCTION

Powerful closing force is now generated by applying pressure at port K.

After the production process, the closing force is removed by re-routing the pressure from port K to L, and the mould opens up. The opening force of up to 10 % of the closing force can be used to overcome any sticking effects.

The PowerStroke has ports for commercially available proximity switches, to allow operation to be constantly monitored.
