Unfortunately, our plan to modernise Rooms 1 - 4 and the south entrance are temporarily in limbo. This is because we have found asbestos in the main block. Fortunately, the asbestos is stable and therefore no risk to staff and students. Air testing has been carried out by the Ministry of Education, which confirmed this.

However, the asbestos will need to be removed, which is a very costly process. We are currently working with the Ministry of Education to establish how best to proceed and to what extent our plans will need to be altered, if at all. We will let you know more about the timelines and new scope of work once we have more information ourselves.

Meanwhile, the term has started with a bang. We are very excited about Pet Day, especially now shearing legend Sir David Fagan will be attending. We are expecting some TV coverage so let's all go the extra mile to make 2016's Pet Day the best ever. We look forward to seeing everyone from our wider community there!

This Term is looking like another very busy Limehills term with plenty of school camps, sports, visitors, Pet Day, Borland Enviro Hui and lots more. Because of the warmer weather that means the beginning of touch and swimming as well as some other sports. This term there is also going to be five camps including Room 4 and 7’s overnight camp at school, Room 6 is going to Camp Columba and Room 7 and 8’s camp to Dunedin. And these are only some of the exciting and fun things planned for Term 4.

Wilson Sister Camp For the first week of the holidays I went up to Christchurch. I had been planning and fundraising for this trip for nearly a year. I attended a Horse Camp which was run by the Three Wilson Sisters off the reality TV Show ‘Keeping up with the Kaimanawas.’ They hold horse camps nationwide and up to 100 riders can attend. Fortunately for us this camp only had 38 riders and that was awesome because we all got to spend a lot more time with the three sisters. Because there were only 38 riders there were a lot more team building exercises such as some icebreakers and a human pyramid.

During the camp the sisters got a visit from Eve off the Adam and Eve 4:30 show for an interview and my horse was put on TV in one of the interviews.

The camps that they hold are mostly for young r iders to improve just as much as their horse as well as being put out of your comfort zone. It was unreal to have been able to go to one

of the camps and I have learnt a

whole lot more things especially around the areas of horsemanship and techn iques o f

jumping. It was well worth the time spent

fundraising and waiting for the

t ime to finally approach. By Mia Harper

Christmas Pantomime

Save the dates!!!

Tues 22 & Wed 23 November

Rooms 7 and 8 will perform their Christmas

pantomime at 7.00 pm throughout

the Limehills School grounds. Not just one

play but 5 plays to see. There will be a $5

charge per family, the money will be used

for the costume hire. We have been

working hard on our scripts and characters.

It will be exciting and interactive, with you

walking around the school grounds to see

the different plays. Don’t miss out on

this exciting evening.

Talent Quest Report 2016 The Talent Quest this year was the best ever. We had so many children wanting to enter that we had to have 3 heats.

In the final we had 16 contestants and 4 lucky winners. The winning acts included dances, jazz and a puppet show. Third equal was Jade and Tara with their highland dance. Our other third equal was Jamie Anderson with her dance. Second place was Milly T, and our winner for 2016 was Brooke Fennelly with her very clever puppet show.

We had a fantastic time being the hosts and we would like to thank all the parents for coming to watch the show and the judges for the great job they did.

Basketball Last week on Tuesday I flew up to Christchurch to compete with my team in the South

Island Basketball Tournament. We had a great first game beating Canterbury Red by 25 points. Next we played Nelson it was a close game right until the buzzer beater which Nelson ended up winning by 5 points. We played North Canterbury next who ended up winning the the tournament so it was a hard game that we ended up losing by 20 points. Our next game was against Otago A and it was one of those games that our bucket weren’t dropping so we lost that game by 23 points. Our last game in pool play was against Canterbury Black which was our hardest fought game. It went down to the wire but we lost by 1 point in the end. Even though we only won one game in pool play we still went through to the semis because of points differential. In our semi final we had to play Otago A and this game had the same result as the last with us losing by around 20 points. So the third and fourth play off was set Southland playing Canterbury Black. In a thriller of a game that had everyone on the edge of their seats in the end it was our win that we won by 12 points. We got third!!!! We attended prize giving and to my excitement I was picked in the South Island tournament team for the second year in a row. I had a great time captaining the Southland U13 Girls basketball team for the second year in a row and wish me luck for my tr ials next year for the U15 team. Well done also to Blake Howes-Kollat whose team came seventh in their grade!! By Jaime Anderson

Ronald McDonald Update Thank you to the following people who contributed in the holidays delivery for the Ronald McDonald Family Room: Roelie Hart, Mrs Caldwell, Fiona Thorburn, Mel Cooper, Harry Clark and Kirsty Rodger. Thanks for all your help. The Ronald McDonald Family Room really appreciates it. Helen was very busy organising a Christmas tree that will be placed at Stadium Southland. If you would like to contribute to cooking food one week just let me know in Room 8, [email protected] . It would be great if you could put on a piece of paper what the meal contains. You don't have to cook a meal you can drop off some ingredients and the kids in Rooms 7 & 8 can cook it for you. Below is a list of parents cooking this week. Thank you. Room 6 Wastenet Visit

Last term the Recycling Group went to the Wastenet Centre in Invercargill. We have learnt so many facts to share with you. Wastenet is a company that recycles paper, cardboard, plastics, glass and cans. Did you know that it takes 17 bales of recycled paper to make one Womens’ Day magazine? You can recycle balewrap for free. They can also make coffins out of recycled materials. Another interesting fact is that the glass that we recycle gets shipped overseas for other countries to use. An important thing to remember is not to squash your plastic bottles because they can get stuck in the conveyor belt where everything gets sorted. We would like to thank Mrs Anderson-Kereti for driving us and Jenny from Wastenet who gave us a great tour. By Room 6 Recycling Group

BEE ADVENTUROUS! On the first Sunday of the holidays Keely, Drew and us two boys went to the Southland Nursery for a bee day. We sat down and watched a slideshow of bees. This showed us what activities they had in mind for us. The activities were: honey tasting where we got to taste all sorts of honey, seeing what happens in a hive without being harmed. One of the activities we found interesting was the chemical stall. It was interesting which chemicals were bee friendly and what chemicals have the bee friendly sticker on but are still harmful to the bees. The last activity was about what plants bees are attracted to. This learning will help us with our school beehive.

NATIONAL GYMNASTICS In the holidays Blake and I

went and saw the National Gymnastics competition that was being held at the stadium. There was heaps of different events which are categorised into 4 groups that you could move around and see. Blake and I both think that the artistic gymnastics was the best to watch because we knew some of the people competing. It was cool to watch such an amazing event because there was international competitors competing and it was well organised.

This is a photo of Mr Murray’s son, Reid, who competed in the event and whose photo featured several times in the Southland Times.

HOCKEY TOURNAMENT Last week during the school holidays Morgan and I went to compete in a hockey tournament that was in Gore. We stayed near Edendale. As soon as we got there we unpacked the vans and had some fun before going to our rooms with all of our gear. Then we had our tea and went to bed so we would be ready for the games the next day.

We played North Canterbury and Canterbury our scores were 1:3 against Canterbury and 0:5 against North Canterbury. Even though we tried our best and lost both of our games we were still to play two games the next day. The

next day we played North Otago and Eastern. Our scores were 3:1 against Eastern and 3:0 against North Otago. We were so happy that we won and got to play another game for 7th and 8th at the end of the game the score was 2 all. We had tied our game against eastern we ended up 7th equal. Morgan scored a total of 3 goals and I scored none but I set one up. Morgan was playing the wing and centre forward role and I was playing centre half most of the time but I was available to be in all positions.

We would like to say a big thanks to our coach Hamish Napier, our manager Jan-Maree Pyle and our cook Kate Webster. They were all a big help to the team. By Morgan Strachan and Harri Pyle
