Mathematics

As it is week 10 of Term 3 our maths will look a bit different this week. This week’s math tasks will be focused on breaking a ‘secret code.’

LOST IN SPACE!

The astronauts aboard the International Space Station have just sent out a distress signal, their

navigation system is malfunctioning, and they are beginning to go of course!

The only way to bypass their emergency protocol and reactivate the navigation system is to

follow the clues and find the 4 security codes

The astronauts are relying on you, so make sure you read all the questions carefully and check

your answers with someone else!

Each day a task will be given for you to solve. They are 4 tasks in total – The answers and hidden code numbers are located

on the answer sheet. Please have an adult check your answers to reveal the hidden codes to you.

Story starter: Continue the story using the story starter section For Tuesdays writing task.

It had been a normal journey so far, but things were about to change.

For miles and miles, the only sound that filled Jake's ears had been the comforting hum of the car engine as they drove along the highway. So comforting in fact that he had dozed off, only to be awoken by the sudden jolt as his dad slammed the brakes on the car.

Jake could not believe his eyes...

Picture perfect: Imagine if the road outside your school or home started to do this! Can you draw what it might look like?

You Can Do It – Random Acts of Kindness Researchers have conducted studies which show that when you do something kind for someone else, it genuinely makes you feel happier. When you feel happier, you are more likely to do more kind things for other people. So, the cycle continues. Being kind also helps the other person feel happier too, so it's a fantastic habit to get into! Examples are: Asking how someone is feeling and how you can help, if they look upset Writing a thank you note to someone Doing a chore for someone else Holding the door open for someone Giving a compliment

ACTIVITY ✓ Write a thank you message to someone who has helped you in some way, with a genuine statement of

thanks.

✓ Draft the text first in your workbook then write it on the card when they are satisfied with the wording.

Science- Year 4: Modelling Mountains What is erosion?

Erosion is the action of surface processes that removes soil, rock, or dissolved material from one location on the Earth's crust, and then transports it to another location.

This picture is of a cliff located on a beach. Water has caused the edge to erode. Therefore, taking away bits of the surface

at a time.

Answer the following questions:

What parts of the landscape might change?

How might these changes occur?

Can rocks and soil change? How?

DID YOU KNOW?

Human activity can affect erosion and how the effects of erosion caused by water is a serious concern for farmers.

NSW Department of Education

If you have the following materials at home conduct the Exploring water erosion. Please ask an adult if you can use the materials.

This activity is not mandatory if you do not have access to these materials.
