Murrieta Acovado Half Marathon and 5K

Feb-257:15am - 10:45am

Vickie [email protected] and phone number is 760-594-2108. Our website is www.avocadohalfand5k.com

We need 75 volunteers to help us with traffic control at the 3rd Annual Murrieta Avocado Half Marathon and 5K on Saturday, February 25th, 2017. They can be active military or over the age of 18 years old. Our flaggers are vital to the safety of our runners. They stand in road entrances and allow vehicles to enter or exit race course only when there is ample space between runners. They will be wearing a safety vest and holding a large orange flag that we will provide.Volunteers would need to check in at 0600 at the event site which is 1 Town Square, Murrieta, CA for briefing with Murrieta Police. We will have water for them to take to their stations. Each volunteer will then be given a station (street) that they must drive to and park nearby and walk to street entrance. The race will begin at 07:15 and will be completed by 10:45am. Once police clear the street that the flagger is on, they may then be free to leave post. They will need to return their flag and vest to a coordinator back at event site and then may leave. All volunteers must have a cell phone to use in case they need to contact police, EMT or coordinator for any questions or problems that may arise. They will be each given these numbers when they arrive. I need to have commitments no later than February 15th, 2017. The volunteers will need to provide their full name(s), email address and a phone number. Each volunteer will receive a certificate of appreciation. If we have left over event shirts, they are free to take one when they are done. Again, we are working on providing them with some food, but we encourage them to bring their own just in case.

There are a lot of chores to do there and only a few volunteers. The animals have to be cared for whether volunteers show up or not, and many of the current volunteers are seniors. They often find it difficult to stay to a regular schedule. Most of the chores involve cleaning and washing, not the most exciting type of chore, but one that is required daily. Dog walking would also be helpful.

Heritage Park Building Museum Ongoing

Terry Ann Larson 951-239-2355.

*Strong Marine Volunteers Needed at Heritage Park Village Museum. Heritage Park Village Museum is nearly finished renovating the historic buildings that offer visitors the opportunity to “step back in time” and glimpse Oceanside at its incorporation in 1888. Marines were among the volunteers that worked to bring this Park into existence during our country’s bicentennial celebration in 1976. The Park is made up of representative and historic buildings; including the original Oceanside Jail formerly used for its holding cells by the Camp Pendleton military police. The museum furnishings and artifacts were removed from many of the buildings and put into storage to enable renovations and remodeling. Now that they have completed some of this work, they need to return the furnishings to the buildings. They are in need of 4-6 strong Marines to lift and move some large and heavy glass display cases from storage in the Livery Stable to their respective buildings onsite. It will probably not take more than four hours of work; the day and time is flexible, however, they need help as soon as possible.
