SINGAPORE: ESSENTIAL ASIASUNDAY 4TH TO THURSDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2012M A R I N A B A Y S A N D S H O T E L

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of the IFEAT Singapore Conference Committee, I am delighted to welcome all the delegates and theiraccompanying persons to the annual IFEAT Conference to be held from Sunday November 4th to ThursdayNovember 8th in Asia’s financial hub – the tropical city of Singapore made up of 63 islands.

Located in the heart of South East Asia, the conference will allow participants to experience many diversifiedcultures, entertainment and business opportunities the region has to offer. The strong growth in Asia, which isbeing led by Singapore, exemplifies the year’s conference theme ‘Essential Asia’.

The IFEAT Conference will be held at the magnificent hotel Marina Bay Sands, Singapore which overlooks on oneside: Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to the North and Indonesia’s Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to the South. The hotel is an arc of excellence and in reality provides an experience of shock and awe. Business and entertainmentoptions far exceed one’s expectations. Events planned for the conference include Welcome Reception cocktailsat ‘One on the Bund’, the IFEAT Dinner, a one-day exhibition to be held at the Marina Bay Sands and the ClosingBanquet at the spectacular Marina Bay Sands Ballroom.

We have moved away from the customary field trip of previous conferences with a one-day Trade Exhibition to beheld in the conference venue. This is an exciting opportunity for companies in the essential oils and aroma tradesto showcase their products to delegates, associates and friends.

This year IFEAT has partnered with a dynamic creative agency ‘Imagination Singapore PTE Limited’ as the OfficialTravel Agent of IFEAT 2012 to look after travel and tour needs. Conference and optional tours offered to delegatesand accompanying persons include visits to Universal Studios Singapore®, the Night Safari at the world famousSingapore Zoo, the Jurong Bird Park and a short drive across the border to visit Genting Highlands in Malaysia.

The topic for this year will concentrate on ‘Essential Asia’. Lectures and presentations will focus on variousaspects of the growing Asian influence on our flavour and fragrance Industries globally. Market trends, new rawmaterials, legislative and regulatory issues, trade issues, agricultural residues and various other topics related toour industry will be the focus.

I take this opportunity to thank the Singapore Conference Organising Committee Members for their remarkablesupport and efforts. We look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful tiny nation of Singapore and wish that amuch greater understanding of this region can be achieved during your short memorable visit.

Welcome, and enjoy the Conference!

Located in Southeast Asia, Singapore has a land areaof about 710 square kilometres, making her one of thesmallest countries in the world and the smallest in theregion – hence the moniker “The Little Red Dot”.Although small in size, Singapore commands anenormous presence in the world today with its freetrade economy and highly efficient workforce. Also, her strategic location in the region has enabled her tobecome a central sea port along major shippingroutes.

Other than having a sound business infrastructure andfavourable economic climate, another factor forSingapore’s rapid growth is due to a stable andcompetent ruling government. Singapore is aparliamentary republic with a political system that’scentred on democracy. The current ruling party ingovernment is The People’s Action Party (PAP), whichhas dominated the political process since self-government in 1959.

At present, Singapore’s population stands at about fivemillion people, with English as the main language, anda mother tongue for each major ethnicity. One of thedistinctly Singaporean things you’ll notice on the islandis a ubiquitous collage of cultures. Coming together asa society and living in harmony, there are four majorraces – namely the Chinese (majority), Malay, Indianand Eurasian. Each community offers a differentperspective of life in Singapore in terms of culture, religion, food and language.

Being a multi-racial society, Singapore is as diverse asit is cohesive. With so much to see and do, this isperhaps best experienced through your encounterswith the locals. And if you’re feeling nostalgic andlooking to discover old world charm, you can exploreand experience the island’s key historical landmarks ormemorials. You can also embark on a heritage trail andenjoy the sights and sounds at various culturalprecincts, notably Chinatown, Little India andKampong Glam.

If you prefer the bright city lights and being amidst thehustle and bustle, then you’ll be delighted to know thatthere are numerous shopping malls, museums, anddining and entertainment hotspots to choose from.Get into the thick of the shopping action at the iconicOrchard Road stretch, or party the night away at theClarke Quay or Boat Quay areas, both of which offer amyriad selection of nightlife activities.

The other thing that will strike you most aboutSingapore is its multifarious offering of food – day ornight, there will always be something to whet yourappetite. With a range of dining options fromPeranakan to Chinese, Indian to Malay, fusion andmore, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Beyond the history, culture, people, shopping andfood, there are many more facets to Singapore’sthriving cityscape for you to discover. And these canonly be experienced as you immerse yourself in theexploration of this once fishing village turnedcosmopolitan city.

For more information on Singapore, go to:www.yoursingapore.com

Singapore is a bustling cosmopolitan city populated with high-rise buildingsand landscape gardens. Brimming with a harmonious blend of culture, cuisine, arts and architecture, Singapore is a dynamic city that’s rich in contrast andcolour. In fact, you can even say that Singapore embodies the finest of bothEast and West.
