Of the many offerings this month, two in particular are worth highlighting, since both present Asian or worldwide premieres of the works and talents of the archetypical Renaissance Man Leonardo da Vinci. Da Vinci is not only considered one of the greatest painters ever to have lived, but he was also arguably one of the most diversely talented persons of all time, leading E.H. Gombrich to declare him as a “genius whose powerful mind will always remain an object of wonder and admiration to ordinary mortals”.

The first exhibition is “Da Vinci: Shaping the Future” at ArtScience Museum, as featured in last month’s SAGG, where many original masterpieces make their Southeast Asian debut, including 26 original pages of da Vinci’s largest notebook, with some of his most important drawings and writings.

The second is the world premiere of “Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Earlier Mona Lisa’” at The Arts House. This will be the first public viewing of a recently rediscovered painting that experts have worked tirelessly to prove is an authentic precursor to the iconic Mona Lisa masterpiece. The mystery surrounding the ‘Earlier Mona Lisa’ is no less enigmatic than the smile of its famous namesake. Visitors will go on a journey though time, art history and science to discover more about one of the most famous artworks of all time.

Finally, this December we are proud to celebrate 10 years of SAGG! We have documented an exciting decade, covering the city’s rich and growing number of museums, galleries and art entities, and charting Singapore’s dramatic rise as a leading global arts centre. SAGG has grown from a fledgling listings guide to its current form as a comprehensive, widely distributed and well read booklet that packs a full punch with listings, editorials, and regular columns. We extend a heartfelt thanks to all of our readers, contributors, sponsors and partners for what has been a wonderful decade – and we look forward to an even more exciting future!

The Singapore Art Gallery Guide (SAGG) celebrates its 10th birthday this December – and what a decade it has been! Spearheaded by former gallery owner René Daniels, SAGG was the first guide to the art and cultural institutions of Singapore, and to this day the free monthly pocket-sized publication remains the most well read and comprehensive. SAGG enjoys a readership of more than 15,000 fine art collectors, influential art critics, governmental and private sponsors of the arts, as well as local

and international visitors seeking guidance on how to enrich their cultural experience of the city.

In the early days, SAGG mainly listed galleries, exhibitions, artists, and art services. The inaugural issue for December 2004/January 2005 featured Colombian artist Fernando Botero’s exhibition "Botero in Singapore" at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM). Botero himself came to Singapore to open the exhibition, where the first issues were presented, and expressed

his appreciation for the fledgling guide – quite an auspicious start!

Over the months and years, the listings – as well as our editorial section – have grown significantly. One of our first editorials was about "Art and Globalisation", a topic that is just as relevant now as it was in 2005 – so much so that we recently republished the article on our website. Many might also remember our former Executive Editor Usha Nathan, who contributed significantly to the editorials from

January 2007 to October 2009. A big thank you from here to New York City, where Usha now lives with her husband.

We have also introduced many regular columns, with a particular focus on contributions from local artists and curators. "Ask the Artist!" was a column in which local artists shared their insights – past contributors have included Justin Lee (October 2005), Ang Ah Tee (January/February 2006), Hong Sek Chern (August 2006), and Agathe de Bailliencourt (November 2006).

Since May 2006, Vidhya Gnana Gouresan, the Curatorial Director and Co-Founder of Gnani Arts, has written a regular column "The Aesthetic Awakening". From January 2007 to June 2011, SAGG featured a series of articles on art education, including hands-on projects put together by artist Kelly Reedy. The Substation is also a long-time contributor with their ongoing column "The Substation Soapbox".

Other regular contributions include our series "The 'Other' Spaces" about alternative art venues such as Grey Projects and INSTINC, the column "Artist Speak" by the independent cultural and social space Post-Museum, "Art Glass Solutions" by glass artist B. Jane Cowie, and "Creating Changes" by the Art Therapy Association Singapore (ATAS).

More than just a listings guide, SAGG aims to make a contribution to the local arts scene. This is achieved through articles and commentary, but also, for example, through Arron Teo’s photographic insights into local spaces and happenings. His ongoing photography column has included photographs of Gillman Barracks one month before its official opening, and he documented the late ‘Grandfather of Singapore Sculpture’ Ng Eng Teng’s home before it met the wrecking ball.

SAGG has forged many rewarding collaborations with local institutions and players in the Singapore art scene. This includes ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands and Singapore Art Museum, and SAGG is a media partner for most of the city’s art

fairs, including the prestigious Art Stage Singapore.

In March 2006, we also began a fruitful collaboration with tcc – The Connoisseur Concerto, the leading chain of art boutique caffès in Singapore, and their valuable support continues to this day.

Page 14: Singapore Art Gallery Guide - December 2014

A decade along, SAGG goes from strength to strength. Since March 2014, it is now headed by Irene Marx, who has been part of the team as its Art Director from the very beginning. The previous

Editor-in-Chief René Daniels has meanwhile moved on to pursue other projects. But don't worry, he is watching from afar, happy about the blossoming of the guide.

SAGG has always aimed to be a comprehensive and practical tool to help our readers make their way around the Singapore art scene. Earlier this year we relaunched our website (sagg.info), which is now the most comprehensive website about art events in Singapore, listing an average of 100 visual art exhibitions and events per day, including workshops, guided tours, art talks, festivals, theatre, film, music and art events for kids. The website also has an increasing number of visitors, with currently 20,000 views per month. Forty percent of the website visitors are from Singapore, while the remainder come from all over the world. It is astonishing how much the art scene has grown in the last decade, and we are proud that SAGG has been there to document the city’s rising importance as an art centre both for the region and internationally.

In these final words, we would like to send out a big thank you to all of our advertisers, supporters, and partners who have shown faith in the publication, and have encouraged its development to become what it is today. We also want to thank our readers for joining us on this journey from our pioneering beginnings as Singapore’s first arts publication of its kind to our current status as a leading and trusted guide to Asia’s most blossoming arts hub.

The Nataraja Image in transient contextsWritten by Vidhya Gnana Gouresan

In current times, the image of the Nataraja has become one of the most featured and recognised icons/symbols that unanimously represents Indian art or the cultural heritage of India in general, playing the role of a cultural ambassador for India in a tremendously global context. Indeed, context plays a significant role in the continuing cultural biography of the Nataraja image. From being a sacred entity, the Nataraja image has indeed become an irrefutable aspect of commoditization, as it holds on to a niche of its own as a commodity in the art market as well.

The Nataraja is one of the many forms of the Hindu god Shiva, as the Lord of Cosmic Dance. It is a concept with a dynamic representation, whereby the Lord symbolically performs the ananda tandava, literally meaning ‘the fierce dance of bliss' (there are 108 tandavas or dance stances in which the Nataraja can be portrayed), which is the dance that encompasses the mythological, cosmic and cyclic phenomenon whereby the universe is created, sustained and destroyed, only to emerge again for the next round of this eternal cycle that rules the cosmos. At this juncture, it will be appropriate to make a reference to Fritjof Capra’s study of Nataraja’s dance in relation to modern Physics. Capra refers to Nataraja’s dance as ‘the dance of subatomic matter’, whereby every subatomic particle performs an ‘energy dance’, which he refers to as ‘a pulsating process of creation and destruction’. Typically and particularly in sculpture, the Nataraja is visualised and portrayed as standing in a majestic stance on his bent right leg, while his left leg is gracefully raised across the right leg. He has four arms; his rear right arm holds a drum (damaru), which represents the primal sense of sound, while his left rear arm holds fire, representing one of the five elements of nature; his front right arm denotes the gesture of protection (abhaya mudra) while the other front arm stretches elegantly in a dance gesture. He signifies the act of subduing the ego or ignorance as his right leg stamps with perfect balance on a mythological dwarf by the name of Muyalagan, the personification of ego and ignorance. The spread of his matted locks suggest the flamboyant movement of his dance, with the accommodation of the crescent moon and the river Ganga (or Ganges), signifying the source of yet another element of nature. His entire dancing figure is surrounded by a ring of flames. The origins of the Nataraja image remains debatable. However, it is unanimously accepted that the Nataraja is essentially and primarily a deity of the Tamil Region of India, regardless of its international lure. In the context of the

Singapore Art Gallery Guide16

Columns

Page 19: Singapore Art Gallery Guide - December 2014

performing arts, the Nataraja is regarded to be the embodiment of classical dance and a metaphor for rhythmic movement (elaborately and synonymously associated with Bharatanatyam, one of the oldest and most popular dance forms of India). This context coincides with the image’s religious aspect, as, even in the context of the performing arts, the Nataraja image is viewed from a devotional perspective. In the context of art history and aesthetics, the concept holds paramount significance by the very fact that the technical and aesthetic brilliance of the depiction of the Nataraja image in bronze reached its zenith during the dynamic and mighty Chola dynasty in South India (c.300 BC - c.1279 AD). Furthermore, in the context of philosophy, the image embodies key references to the elements and disposition of time and space, timelessness and cosmology. Also, there are mathematical, diagrammatic and metaphysical elements in the form of the Nataraja image, which provide a legitimate connection to the context of artistic creation in contemporary times. Indeed, this is the context that inaugurates a secular perspective to the Nataraja image and its concept.

It is not a myth, but a fact that the possibilities and tendencies, within the ever-continuing cultural biography of the Nataraja image, form an entity that promises to be culturally-momentous and socially-indicative, as long as the active role of transient contexts persists.

Following their public display in Park Lane, London, Madison Avenue, New York, Avenue Montaigne, Paris and even the ski slopes of Courchevel, the fine sculptural works of Julien Marinetti are currently displayed at The Fullerton Heritage precinct.

The signature pieces of this exhibition are Popy (Teddy Bear), Doggy John (French Bulldog) and a giant Bâ (Panda). Specially for this exhibition, Julien Marinetti has created new works that are unique to The Fullerton Heritage precinct and architecture. The sculptures are featured along Singapore’s stunning bayfront – The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Clifford Pier, Clifford Square, Customs House, One Fullerton and Merlion Park.

Each piece is sculpted in clay by hand before being hand-cast in bronze. After it is painted in the explosive colours Marinetti is known for, each sculpture is carefully varnished and polished, giving it a beautiful porcelain-like sheen.

A classically trained artist, Julien Marinetti (born in 1967) is a painter, sculptor and engraver, who uses only traditional materials and methods.

An Ocean of Possibilities responds to questions such as how we address political and environmental challenges globally. The exhibition is a collaboration between Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF) and Noorderlicht International Photo Festival in Groningen, Netherlands, in partnership with ArtScience Museum.

This international exhibition, which is making its final stop in Singapore at ArtScience Museum after being presented at Fries Museum in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, consists of over 200 works, including photographs and videos, by 34 internationally acclaimed photographers from 21 countries. They were chosen from an open call process which saw over 1,000 submissions. Two Singaporean photographers, Zhao Renhui and Lim Weixiang, are among the group to have their works showcased at this exhibition.

Within the exhibition, there are recurring visual narratives that represent endurance and the nature of human resilience drawn from all spheres of social life including politics, economics, humanities, religion and identity. Each artwork selected for the exhibition is an expression of the photographer’s exploration process as he or she questions and challenges the context they live within, while searching for unconventional alternatives to address issues they face. Whilst global in its outlook, the issues explored in An Ocean of Possibilities are synonymous with those Singaporeans face in their daily lives.

Showing at The Arts House until February 2015, this highly-anticipated exhibition will be the first public viewing of the ‘Earlier Mona Lisa’ painting with all of its fascinating surrounding circumstances, demonstrating the skill and techniques of the master Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. The exhibition travels to Hong Kong in March 2015.

The painting captured the world’s attention when it was first presented to the media in 2012 by the Mona Lisa Foundation (a Swiss non-profit) which has compiled over 35 years of research on the work. Additional research results published by the Foundation in 2013 led to the general acceptance that the painting, a portrait of a younger Lisa del Giocondo, is most likely the precursor to the the world acclaimed Mona Lisa masterpiece housed in the Louvre Museum in Paris. New conclusive findings from research and investigations conducted since then will also be presented to the public for the first time at the exhibition.

"The Foundation is extremely excited to bring the “Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Earlier Mona Lisa’” exhibition to the world, and, more so, to hold its global premiere in Singapore which is one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities, fast becoming the newest art capital of Asia. Singapore’s well-developed infrastructure for the arts, Singaporeans’ growing interest in visual culture, as well as its burgeoning tourist numbers, make the island-state a strategic gateway for the exhibition to start its worldwide tour," said Mr. Joel Feldman, General Secretary and spokesman for the Foundation.

The exhibition, which was designed and built in Singapore, promises an interactive, multi-media experience where visitors will be provided with an audio-visual tablet guide to individualise their journey into the world of the Italian Renaissance. Visitors will navigate the exciting discovery and authentication of the painting across nine

Highlights of the nine exhibition galleries will be Historical Evidence – presenting the various historical facts; The Discovery of the Century: ‘Earlier Mona Lisa’ – which shows how and where the painting was found in England in 1913 and captivated those who came into contact with it during the 20th Century; Science & Mathematics – showing evidence that the materials used were available to Leonardo da Vinci, and that the geometrical principles employed are the same in both versions of the Mona Lisa paintings; Comparative Analyses – showing how elements unique to the ‘Earlier Mona Lisa’ were replicated in later works; and Expert Views – presenting experts' statements.

The Mona Lisa Foundation has chosen Operation Smile Singapore Ltd., which provides free reconstructive facial surgery for children suffering from facial deformities throughout Asia, as the event beneficiary for the worldwide premiere of Leonardo da Vinci’s 'Earlier Mona Lisa'. Dreams of DesireFu Lei solo exhibition at Art Plural Gallery

This November, Art Plural Gallery presents Dreams of Desire, a solo exhibition featuring the work of Chinese artist Fu Lei. The exhibition unveils five large-scale oil paintings created exclusively for the occasion, as well as a selection of drawings.

Fu Lei’s paintings address the themes of excess, vice and desire in contemporary society. Plump figures in pearls and high heels cavort with toads, flamingos, snails and fruit in an absurd yet uncannily familiar world. Fu Lei’s scenes are reminiscent

of baroque still life paintings, though the mix of ironic and surreal components renders them intriguingly ambiguous. The viewer may perhaps experience a moment of guilt, shame or despair before the absurd and humorous motifs begin to emerge and jostle for attention.

Fu Lei is based in the thriving 798 Art Zone in Beijing, though his observations of lust and gluttony extend beyond contemporary China. Indeed, the artist is fully committed to escapism, perpetually searching for new sources to feed his imagination or to “flee away from the real world and escape into a realm of illusion”. In the

words of Art Plural Gallery’s founder and director, Swiss art dealer Frédéric de Senarclens, “In China today, Fu Lei has achieved an entirely unique artistic language. His universe reflects the excess of our societies, playing with symbols and reflecting the desires of our world”. In this world, the vices of lust and gluttony are, however, re-imagined, stripped of their negativity and redefined as marvellous dreams of desire.

Art Plural Gallery is located in the heart of Singapore’s museum and cultural district in a spacious Art Deco heritage building. A significant international destination for collectors, it is a fitting setting for this bespoke exhibition of Fu Lei’s tantalising and extravagant works.

My great-grandfather started a coconut plantation in Yio Chu Kang in the 60s, with his 7 sons working alongside with him. When that area was slated for redevelopment in late 70s, they moved and started a pig farm in Punggol. I grew up there, where roughly 100 of my extended family lived and worked together. In the 80s, when the Singapore government phased out pig farming, my eldest uncle decided to venture into hydroponics farming.

Currently, 3 generations of my family continue to work on our hydroponics farm in Khatib. The project will examine the past and present memories through my family's archival photos, which dates back to the 60s, and also new works created by me.

These visual evidences will be curated, contexturalized and finally presented in the form of compelling narratives. In addition to a print exhibition, there will be a greenhouse installation, where audience can witness the daily life on a farm through my photos, in the environment of a live, self-contained hydroponics growing system.

The objective of my project is to translate my personal experience into a collective one, and create a meaningful social community through our shared past. I choose stories as the expression for my project because I feel that narratives provide us with one of our most viable forms of identity- individually and as a community. By giving context and transforming random events in my personal family history into narratives/stories, I make them memorable and in the process, gain control of my memories – memories that the audience will be able to relate to.

Each of these designers exhibit two exclusive artworks, which represent their artistic identity and branding. They also sell their fashion inventories alongside the artworks. This is an interesting platform to prove and discover that designers are first artists too. Through this exhibition, consumers can re-think and explore more about the brand than what has already been perceived.

One East Asia’s artistic direction for this exhibition builds on the characteristics in art expressionism used by these participating five Singaporean designers through their drawings & colour field paintings.

By crossing the fine line between Art and Fashion, this exhibition reaches out to art collectors and fashion enthusiasts alike.

14th century, walk through the hustle and bustle of the busy trading streets under the British rule, and go behind the bars as a prisoner-of-war to experience the oppression of the Japanese Occupation.

The immersive exhibition brings you through a riveting exploration of Singapore’s history as you will find yourself placed right in the midst of the nation’s defining moments. The exhibition consists of six sections, Archaeology in Singapore, Ancient Singapore (1300–1818), Colonial Singapore (1819–1942), Syonan-To (1942–1945), Road to Merdeka (1946–1965) and Independent Singapore (1965–1975).

Archaeology in SingaporeUnknown to many, archaeologists have been quietly excavating

in Singapore for the past three decades. Since 1984, some 19 sites were excavated, and many other surveyed. Archaeology has added another layer to our understanding of Singapore’s ancient, colonial and more recent past. This section showcases a part of the large collection of archaeological artefacts that have been unearthed over the years. Some of these artefacts date to as early as the 10th century AD.

Ancient Singapore (1300–1818)Ancient Singapore was known variously as Temasek and

Singapura, among other names. Learn about the legendary five Malay kings ruled over a prosperous trading settlement until the Javanese invaded the island and laid it to waste.

Colonial Singapore (1819–1942)The British arrived in 1819 and set up a trading factory on the

island. They then secured rights to the island from the Malay rulers and developed Singapore into a thriving port and premier city in the region which attracted migrants from all over the world.

Syonan-To (1942–1945)On 15 February 1942,

Singapore came under a new master: Japan. The city was renamed Syonan-To (the light of the south). Experience the lives of the people at the time: the fear

Road to Merdeka (1946–1965) Post-war Singapore was a time of rebuilding and revolution.

The war left Singapore in shambles; there were problems of unemployment, poverty and poor living conditions. At the same time the spirit of nationalism had emerged. Walk through a student demonstration and listen to former students explain their involvement.

Independent Singapore (1965–1975)

Singapore’s first ten years of nation building was a time of hard work and achievement. Explore how the foundations of our nation were built: defence, foreign policy, economy and education and housing. Visit our 1970s-inspired HDB living room, read magazines and watch newsreels from the time.

Beauty can be found in the most ordinary. Choosing the humble button as a metaphor for the ordinariness of human existence, Korean artist Ran Hwang creates an extraordinary landscape of cherry blossoms and delicate webs for her breathtaking new installation.

Accompanied by phoenixes and peonies – long regarded in Eastern culture as symbols of grace, strength and renewal – Becoming Again echoes the transient nature of existence that is at the core of Hwang’s practice. For this site-specific project at Third Floor – Hermès in Singapore, Hwang created a flowery landscape dedicated to the cycle of life, inviting us to contemplate and reflect on the transient, finite nature of the world around us.

Rings of Fire Artist Lalin Jinasena captures the Fire Dancers at the Perahera Festival in Kandy, Sri Lanka

Page 41: Singapore Art Gallery Guide - December 2014

News

Legend has it that when Buddha was cremated in the fifth century BC, one of his followers took a tooth from the pyre. The holy canine was later smuggled to Sri Lanka, in the hair of an Orissan Princess disguised as a Brahmin priest. King Megavanna was so happy to have the religious relic on his island that he had it paraded through the city for his subjects to marvel at.

– Esala Perahera, Buddhist festival of the tooth, Lonely Planet

The Perahera Festival is a historical, annual procession celebrated throughout Kandy, Sri Lanka, to pay homage to the Scared Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, which is housed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa Temple in Kandy for more than 400 years. Rich in heritage and a unique symbol of Sri Lanka, the procession consists of various traditional fire performers who dance around elephants adorned with lavish garments, as they surround the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.

Artist Lalin Jinasena captured moments of breathtaking feats by the Fire Dancers as they encircle themselves in drapes of fire against the black night. Among other Buddhist pilgrims drumming, dancing and brandishing whips, the religious Fire Dancers create a devotional brilliance with enclosing flames, a spectacle rarely seen elsewhere in the world.

Market reports in recent years locate a surge in value of Chinese contemporary art:

Wu Guanzhong tops the list with staggering total of $510 million. Zeng Fanzhi ranks #3 with grand volume of $226 million; his works “The Last Supper” (2001) soaring to $23.3 million and “Hospital Triptych No. 3” (1992) for $14.6 million. Zhang Xiaogang rakes in total of $104 million, with signature piece “Bloodline: Big Family No.3” (1995) breaking record at Sotheby’s Hong Kong at $12 million.

“Who Are The Top 30 Chinese Artists at Auction?” by Eileen Kinsella, artnet.com, 8 Sep 2014

In the face of such erratic notions, what do we make of the torrent of Chinese art today?

“Beyond the Grid” participates in this dialogue through the lens of six solid artists who have paved extraordinary journeys. Acknowledging their traditional roots, and the socio-political and ideological conditions that dog them, these artists propel their visual expressivity towards internationalisation, beyond the realms of painting, and away from the overtly subversive and satirical iconographies present in the more defining styles of Political Pop and Cynical Realism – two commonly held expectations of

contemporary Chinese aesthetic.Featuring distinct works on paper

by Hong Zhu An, Lin Tianmiao, Qiu Zhijie, Zhu Wei and conceptualist duo Wu Shanzhuan and Inga Svala Thorsdottir, this exhibition looks at the ways in which these individuals challenge assumptions regarding authentic “Chineseness” in art, through a survey of their creative oeuvre and explorations at STPI.

Exercising individualism outside the aesthetic grid (or system), these artists demonstrate the end of a monolithic creative model in China, steering towards changing and

more mature expressions with works illustrating unique artistic sensibilities and bold experimentations in paper and print methodologies.

Enabled by the technical possibilities and spurred by the potentials of the medium, these artists achieve new directions, prescribing nuanced tastes beyond our expectations. Their works are instructive of the shifting social and cultural climate in China today.

When I wear Zentai it makes me concentrate more because of the diminished eyesight and hearing. I start to feel myself more, and am not so affected by the surroundings.

– Yuzuru Maeda, performance artist

Zentai is a short form for the word ‘zenshin taitu’, full body tights. Zentai also means ‘whole’ or ‘entire’ in Japanese (全体). The Zentai suit was invented in the late 60’s in Japan by Marcy Anarchy.

The Zentai Art Festival 2014, held from 7th to 15th November 2014 in Singapore, was the first art festival which focused on Zentai.

As part of the festival, the exhibition at The Substation included photographic works, paintings, and installations by artists Justin Lee (Singapore), Xuyen Ho My (Vietnam), Brian Sergio (Philippines), and Tan Ai Khim (Singapore).

The theme of the Zentai Art Festival was to look beyond gender, age, and looks, to find something 'real'. Or to just have fun by becoming whoever one wants to be ...

The Family Tree by Vanessa Linares. In Vanessa Linares' first solo exhibition in Asia, "The Family Tree", the artist examines

relationships in different forms and colours. Through a series of works with white and black backgrounds, Vanessa, who is heavily inspired by Japanese manga, brings her own interpretation and understanding of the world around her to the canvas. Approaching the theme of family and friendship, with two different methods, Vanessa manages to combine vastly different styles into a cohesive exhibition. Timed to coincide with the festive season, the idea of family and friendship is pervasive in all her paintings in this collection. As the animals in the paintings soar through the skies and congregate in circles, the viewer is reminded of the relationships that connect and bind us together. 20 Dec – 14 Jan 2015

²hide: Solo Exhibition by José Santos III. ²hide is an exhibition featuring a major body of new work by Filipino artist José

Santos III, including 9 large-scale oil paintings rendered in photorealistic detail and 3 mixed-media installations. The subject matter of this body of work are objects that routinely go unnoticed because of their ordinariness. These are things that we know very well – indeed, that we know inside out. It is for this precise reason they have been selected: the works re-situate these items’ familiarity to us and their place in a visual vocabulary of images we subconsciously store. Till 08 Jan 2015

Verve 2014 – The Best of Times. Verve 2014 is inspired by the iconic literary quote from A Tale of Two Cities. Time, in its

essence, is a concept that verifies our very exist-ence in the universe. This year’s theme explores this notion through music, dance, theatre and the visual arts, showcasing significant moments of the artists’ lives, the world and Singapore through The Best of Times. 6 Dec, 10am – 10pm

tcc-artshowcase Delphine Bernard. French abstract painter Delphine Bernard explores flux of energies and power of

creativity through very expressive artworks. Painting with colours and emotions, the artist uses her savage and undisciplined touch to captures primitive forces: her fast strokes runs over the canvas and resemble a frantic and feverish waltz of pigments and forms, thoughts and desires. Her palettes suggest duality, from dark and strong tons mirror-ing scenes of battles and war to vivid and vibrant colours of her florid, joyful works, passing by pastels of her delicate fairy-tell sceneries.
