I am glad to convey my message through our department’s Newsletter Ityukta , to the staff and students of Department of Information Technology. Dear Colleagues and Students have courage to do something new and inno-vative. Doing something new & innovative requires setting a defined goal. If you set a goal for yourself, you automatically get accustomed to bear the pains with a view to achieve it. If you are sincere and determined, every step that you take forward gives you a lot of satisfaction and you enjoy every bit of your action. You simply have to remain aware of the fact that life is like a roller coaster and it has its ups and downs. Do not get too much elated when you succeed in your efforts and do not get disheartened, if success eludes you at some juncture. A quotation for all my budding technocrats : ‘Life becomes more meaningful when you realize a simple fact that you’ll never get the same moment twice. Dear VESIT colleagues and Readers,Welcome to 8th issue of the ITYUKTA Newsletter!Just like the gods and the asuras churned the ocean of milk to extract the nectar, we have tried to churn

out the creativity from our students and faculties. This edition represents the creative side of our students to a fair degree, something that we think we all need to reconnect with. Amidst the busy schedule of a 4-month semester, we tend to lose track of all the other simpler things that we are capable of, things that we could have been proud of, that can bring one satisfaction. So we have made an attempt to bring out the talent concealed within our student and teacher community. We hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we have enjoyed making it. A huge thank you to our beloved alumini who have contributed in writing the wonderful and inspiring alumni voice, without which there wouldn’t have been this newsletter issue. TSEC Hackathon WinnersTSEC Codestorm is a inter-college level hackathon organised by Thad-omal Shahani Engineering College. Our final year students Arvind Narayanan,Heena Dawani, Saish Mohare and Varun Rathi won the com-petition. The event was a two day event. The team built a remote voting application using blockchain technology at the hackaathon.

Vishal Israni of final year along with other students of the VESIT, won Rs.1,00,000 in HackM Fintech event sponsored by Deloitte. The event was organized whit the motto of providing an environment where people could explore and prove technical excellence of their own. Vishal Israni and his team won the First runner’s up title.

AI initiative - AI GyanVESIT has become zonal partner with leadingindia.ai. An initiative by Bennett University and NVIDIA to promote AI and Deep learning skills in the world. The team is headed by Dr. Vijayalakshmi and coordinated by Dr. Shalu Chopra and Mrs Vidya Pujari from IT Department.

ClouderaCloudera – VESIT Collaboration for big data Hadoop training first phase was conducted from 4th September 2018 to 12th October 2018. The course includ-ed topics on basics of Hadoop 2.0, its ecosystem, and components, Hive, Sqoop,

Flume and Spark. The lab was conducted on the Virtual machine provided by Cloudera. The course was attend-ed for third and final year students of the department. Raj Madheshia, Rajpreet Singh, Gayatri Belapurkar, Milan Hazra,Athul B,Pranali Patil,Ujala Jha, Abhishek Kaudare and Vishwa Shrirame of Third year attend-ed Cloudera hadoop workshop held by Cloudera at VESIT.

Looking Beyond SyllabusThe screening of the projects under LBS championship, a project competition at Institution level was con-ducted on 11th October 2018. The following students were selected after two rounds of eliminations.1.Abhishek Rathi and Yash Bhardwaj were selected for their Project titled Career Selector.2.Riya Agarwal ,Seema Vidhrani and Sejal Nair were selected under Project name Roti Bank.3.Anirudh Iyer,Rahul Nandrajog and Aniket Shinde were selected under Project name Cashless College.4.Megha Sahu and Juyee Sabse were selected under Project name Water e-Governance.5.Shivani Jadhav was selected under Project name Water Monitoring System.

Seminars/Workshops conductedHands on Workshop on IOTHands on workshop on IOT using Raspberry Pi was conducted for the students of third year on 1st September 2018. In the workshop, students were introduced to various IOT platforms and demonstrated interfacing with Raspberry Pi. Students got hands on experience of installation of operating system to developing applications using Raspberry Pi and DTH sensors.

Session on Applied Analytics in FinanceA skill enhancement session on Applied Analytics in Finance was organ-ized by the department for the students of third year, final year and M.E. students on 1st September 2018. Alumini Voice

My association with VESIT was a serendipitous stroke of luck, a case of entering the wrong college as well as branch code in the admission portal. I wanted to be an Electronics major but landed up in IT stream.

Everyone feels this after completing engineering but I had this experience before Engineering even started. But that wrong branch code introduced me to a whole new world of possibilities. VESIT helped me a lot in developing a strong technological back-ground as well as leadership quality. The college has a number of clubs that helps in the overall development of a student, not neglecting the extracurric-ular activities. The faculty is very helpful and even motivated me to pursue my entrepreneurial passions. I am very thankful to the faculty of VESIT for helping me set up my own startup. I would like to mention Prof. Mr.Hardik Shah, who guided me in Electronics field. One thing that college has taught me is that if one had passion to-wards something, and if one is willing to pursue it wholeheartedly, you will definitely get what you want. I was a product manager in one of the electronic start-up ( Picostone Tech-nology) and designed a electronic product. Currently I am a Technical Trainer, I have conducted 150+ training all across the globe, IITs , CITI bank , Abu Dhabi Police Department.

It has been 8 years since I walked out of the gates of VESIT, thinking how much I would miss it and the friends / mentors from my IT Dept. I had made during my engineering tenure. I owe a lot to the college and am

thrilled to be associated with them as part of the Alumni, even after so many years. This goes to show how much the college thinks about it’s students - ensuring current students benefit from the experiences of past students and providing enough opportunities to the past students to contribute back to the college. I have the same proud feeling in stating VESIT as my graduation col-lege as the feeling I have while calling myself as the Founder of a startup IT firm Atto Infotech LLP. I believe whatever happens, happens for the best - and I couldn’t have got a better college and better faculties than this or couldn’t have carved out my professional career in any other better way. This is my advise to all students

- “Don’t think too far ahead; be honest and give your best in whatever you do ,results will take care of themselves.”

• On behalf of Mumbai University VESIT, Information Technology department conducted orientation for the subject ADMT and OLAP lab for semester V Information Technology. The Orientation Program was conducted by Dr. M. Vijayalakshmi and attended by Mrs. Jayashree Hajgude, Mrs. Vidya Pujari and Ms Sukanya Roychowdhury.
