1 Control Unit CU310 DP
The Control Unit CU310 DP is designed for the communication and open/closed-loop control functions of a Power
Module. Together with the Power Module it forms a high-performance single-motor drive. As standard, the Control
Unit CU310 DP features the following interfaces:
• 1 DRIVE-CLiQ socket that permits communications to additional DRIVE-CLiQ devices, e.g. Sensor
Modules, Terminal Modules
• 1 PM-IF interface to communicate with Power Modules, Blocksize format
• 1 interface to the Basic Operator Panel BOP20
• 1 PROFIBUS interface
• 1 encoder evaluation HTL/TTL
• 4 parameterizable digital inputs (floating)
• 4 parameterizable bidirectional digital inputs/digital outputs (non-floating)
• 1 serial RS232 port
• 1 slot for the CompactFlash card which is used to save the firmware and parameters
• 3 test sockets and a reference ground to support commissioning
• 1 connection for the electronics power supply via the 24 V DC supply connector
• 1 PE/protective conductor connection
Multi-color LEDs are used to display the status of the Control Unit CU310 DP. A Basic Operator Panel BOP20
can be snapped directly onto the Control Unit CU310 DP - e.g. for diagnostics. The firmware and parameters that
have been set are stored on the plug-in CompactFlash card. This means that Control Units can be replaced
without requiring any additional equipment. The same CompactFlash card (same firmware) is used for the Control
Unit CU310 and CU320.
The Control Unit CU310 DP controls the Power Modules, Blocksize format via the PM-IF interface. In this case,
additional DRIVE-CLiQ components can be connected at the DRIVE-CLiQ socket of the Control Unit CU310 DP.
These DRIVE-CLiQ components include, for instance, Sensor Modules and Terminal Modules. The Power
Modules, Chassis format are controlled from the Control Unit CU310 DP via the DRIVE-CLiQ interface. Here,
Sensor Modules and Terminal Modules can be connected to the free DRIVE-CLiQ sockets of the Power Module.

Parameters can be changed using the Basic Operator Panel BOP20. The Basic Operator Panel BOP20 can also
be snapped onto the Control Unit CU310 DP during operation for diagnostic purposes.
The STARTER commissioning tool is used to commission and diagnose the Control Unit CU310 DP as well as
the connected components.
Communications between a Control Unit CU310 DP and the higher-level control are established via PROFIBUS.
The integrated safety functions - such as e.g. "Safe Torque Off" - should be selected through two channels. Two
digital inputs are required on the Control Unit CU310 DP for this purpose.

2 Power Modules PM340 Blocksize format
2.1 Overview
Power Module PM340, frame size FSA Power Module PM340, frame size FSE
As standard; the Power Modules PM340 Blocksize format are provided with the following interfaces:
• DC link terminals DCP/R1 and DCN
• Terminals DCP/R1 and R2 to connect an external braking resistor
• PM-IF interface that establishes the connection between the Power Module PM340 and the Control UnitCU310 or Control Unit Adapter CUA31. The Power Module PM340 also provides power to the Control UnitCU310 or Control Unit Adapters CUA31 using an integrated power supply
• The motor is connected through screw terminals or studs
• Control for the Safe Brake Relay or the Brake Relay to control a holding brake
• 2 PE/protective conductor connections.
Power Modules with integrated line filter may only be connected to TN line supplies. Power Modules withoutintegrated line filter can be connected to grounded (TN, TT) and non-grounded (IT) line supplies.
NotePower Modules have been designed for use in the industrial environment and generate currentharmonics on the line side as a result of their rectifier circuit. When a machine with integrated PowerModules is connected to the public low-voltage supply, then authorization is required from the localelectric utility company, if
- the rated input current of the machine is ≤ 16 A per conductor, and
- the input current of the machine does not fulfill the requirements of EN 61000-3-2 regarding currentharmonics.

The integrated braking unit (braking chopper) is dimensioned so that it can continuously control the externalbraking resistor. The temperature of the external braking resistor must be monitored to protect it against thermaloverload.
The Power Modules PM340 communicate with the Control Unit CU310 resp. the Control Unit Adapter CUA31 via
the PM-IF interface.

Many of the system components for the Power Modules PM340 have been designed as sub-chassis components.This means that the components are mounted onto a mounting plate and above them the Power Module PM340to create a space-saving solution. Up to two sub-chassis components can be mounted above one another.

The principle arrangement of a Power Module PM340 with sub-chassis line reactor is shown in Fig. 1. The line
reactors are connected on the line side using terminals and to the Power Module using a pre-fabricated cable. Forframe sizes FSA to FSC – when installed - the line supply terminals are located at the top; for frame sizes FSD toFSE they are located at the bottom.
If, for frame size FSA, a line filter is used in addition to the line reactor, then the components should be arrangedaccording to Fig. 2. In this case, the line supply is connected at the bottom.
From frame size FSB, Power Modules can be ordered with an integrated line filter; an external line filter is thennot required.

Line reactors limit low-frequency harmonics that are fed back into the line supply and reduce the level of stress on
the rectifiers of the Power Modules. If the effective line impedance uk ≥ 1%, a line reactor is not required. The
voltage drop uk across the line impedance increases with the current. This is the reason that the specified
condition is more easily fulfilled as the rated power of the Power Module increases.

2.5 Line filter for Power Modules PM340
When the system is consistently configured, the line filter for frame size FSA limits the cable-borne noise and
disturbances emitted from the Power Module PM340 to limit values in compliance with Class A1 according toEN 55011 and Category C2 according to EN 61800-3. The line filter may only be directly connected to TN line
supplies.
Note: The line filter is only suitable for Power Modules PM340, frame size FSA and line supply voltages 3-ph.
380 V to 480 V AC. All of the other Power Modules PM340 can be ordered with an integrated line filter.

2.6 Braking resistors for Power Modules PM340
Power Modules PM340 cannot regenerate energy back into the line supply. When generating, e.g. when braking
a flywheel load (high-inertia load), a braking resistor must be connected that converts the regenerated energy into
heat (thermal energy).
The braking resistor is connected to terminals DCP/R1 and R2.
The braking resistors can be mounted at the side next to the Power Modules PM340. The braking resistors, frame
sizes FSA and FSB are designed as sub-chassis components. If Power Modules PM340, frame sizes FSA or FSB
are operated without a line reactor, then the braking resistors can also be mounted below the Power Modules.
The braking resistors for Power Modules, frame sizes FSC to FSF should be mounted outside the control cabinet
resp. outside the switchgear room so that the power loss is dissipated away from the Power Modules. This
reduces the costs associated with climate control.
Every braking resistor is equipped with a temperature switch (UL listed). The temperature switch must be
evaluated in order to avoid damage if the braking resistor is thermally overloaded.

Motor reactors reduce the voltage stress on the motor windings. The capacitive re-charging currents aresimultaneously reduced. These re-charging currents additionally load the power unit when using long motorcables. When a motor reactor is used the max. permissible output frequency is 150 Hz.
The motor reactors for Power Modules 3-ph. 380 V to 480 V AC are suitable for pulse frequencies of 4 kHz.Higher pulse frequencies are not permissible.
The motor reactor should be mounted as close as possible to the Power Module.
Motor reactors have only been released in conjunction with the "Vector" and "V/f open-loop control" control types.

3 Power Modules, Chassis format
3.1 Overview
Power Module, Chassis format, frame size GX
As standard, the Power Modules, Chassis format are provided with the following interfaces:
• 1 line supply connection
• 2 DC link connections for options - e.g. "Braking Module"
• 3 DRIVE-CLiQ sockets
• 1 safe standstill (Safe Torque Off) input (enable pulses)
• 1 temperature sensor input (KTY84-130 or PTC)
• 1 electronics power supply connection
• 1 motor connection
• 2 PE/protective conductor connections
The Control Unit CU310 can be installed in the Power Modules, Chassis format.
The following are included in the scope of supply of the Power Modules:
• 1 DRIVE-CLiQ cable to connect to the Control Unit CU310
• 1 24 V connecting cable to supply the Control Unit CU310
• 1 mounting plate to mount the Control Unit CU310

3.4 Line reactors for Power Modules, Chassis format
Line reactors limit low-frequency harmonics fed back into the line supply and relieve the rectifier of the Power
Modules. The necessary inductance of the line reactors is reduced to the same extent as the Power Module rated
power increases. A line reactor is not required for effective line impedances > 3% uk. More detailed information is
provided in the Chapter "Engineering information".

Line filters limit the cable-borne noise and disturbances that Power Modules emit in conjunction with line reactorsand a consistent system configuration.
