Workshop 2c: Reinforced Panel Geometry

1 hour

In this workshop you will consider the geometry of a reinforced panel such as the one that might be used in the

design of airplane fuselage structures.

The model under consideration is shown below. The panel is reinforced in both the longitudinal and

circumferential directions by beams with different cross sections. Since the panel is quite thin, it (as well as the

reinforcements) will be modeled using shell elements.

In this exercise you will focus on extracting surfaces from solid geometry and creating extruded and revolved

surfaces for shell modeling. After completion of this exercise, you will be able to:

a. Create extruded and revolved surfaces for shell modeling

b. Create extruded solid geometry

c. Extract surfaces from solid geometry for shell modeling

After completion of this exercise you will be able to:

a. Create geometry using various Sketcher tools

b. Edit geometry using trim options

c. Constrain the sketches.

d. Dimension the sketches.

e. Create a base feature from a sketched profile.

f. Create extruded features (material addition and removal)

g. Create revolved features (material addition and removal)

h. Create dress up features.
