In this week’s parsha, why does the vru, tell us the xujh of xjbp going back to ivfv irvt? We are told that the ohyca made fun of xjbp because they thought he killed hrnz out of cruelty. They called him hyup ic which means the son of the one who fattens, since xjbp was a descendant of ur,h who would fatten his calves and then slaughter them for vrz vsucg. In this way they were saying that xjbp inherited the cruel

tendencies of ur,h. The vru, is telling us that when xjbp killed hrnz, not only was it the correct thing to do, but it was a display of sxj as well because it ended the plague that was killing many Jews. This is why the vru, stresses that he’s a descendant of irvt, who was known for his ouka ;suru ouka cvut - sxj. As we go through the three weeks, we can all learn an important lesson from this: whenever we see someone doing something we think is wrong, we must stop and ask ourselves what the intentions are and if something positive might be being done, even if we don’t understand it. It is impor-tant to give others the benefit of the doubt because they might be taking action Lishma. A Gutten Shabbos!

What a swimtastic week we had here in Simcha Day Land! Here is just a small peek into the swimazing events of the past week. As always, we report from Wednesday to Wednesday. The 10’s Laffy Taffy Division spent many swimacious hours of Simcha Psych fun at our very own Funstation fun house this week. It was absolutely swimawesome! There was no gaga to be found, but there were bumper cars, swimming in ball pits, trains, air hockey, helicopters, and so much more! My head is swimming from all this Simcha. B13 played B15 in a competitive game of soccer. B15 was winning 3-0,having floated 3 very swimifficult goals past the B13 defensive line, when inthe last 30 seconds of the game, B13 sank 2 goals in the deep end...and thefinal score was a very close 3-2! Good game and achdus swum by all! B14 played an swimawesome game of kickball, where all the campers played swimmingly, kicking laps around the field. The game came to a head when Gedaliah Brill churned up a home run to clear the bases! What a wet and fun game that was! The 20’s Jelly Fish Division had so much fun swimming around Rabbi Kohn in all his swimishugaas. They finally came up for air and enjoyed a shal-low end division soccer game, campers vs. counselors! The campers won 2-1! Dovid Schindler in B24 scored the winning goal!!! The Jelly Belly 30’s have been swallowing tons of water and the PowerRankings too, with their amazing bentschings, cleanups, yarmulkes to and from the pool and great middos by all. B33 is swimming in the lead with 275 points! Learning groups have been very deep and unchlorinated, as ourbudding talmidei chachamim soak in as much Torah as they can. The Rab-beim can’t get over how nicely the swimmers are davening and learning! TheLatenight was swimthrilling, as the campers went swimming, played a new Simcha Day Camp game called Sports Switch which had campers clamoring for points while honing their sports skills, and an swimscrumptuous B.B.Q. meal! Remember not to eat too much before you swim. The Funky Ferrari 40’s floated to a humongous division dodgeball game with the Jawbusters and Redhots beating the Grapeheads and Atomic Fire-balls in a close and intense game. Tremendous middos were displayed by B41 as they cleaned up with zerizus. At the end of last week, B44 was lead-ing in the division Power Rankings, but this week, B43 was seen doing the front crawl, creeping in behind them. I’m holding my breath, waiting to see under water who will win the race! We can’t wait for our swimtabulous extra leagues, late night and fishing trip next week. Bentsching and ruach in the lunchroom has been swimazing! The Roasty Toasty Marshmallows Seniors 50’s and up went swimming

Page 5: Simcha TheThe Summer 2015 Issue 2 July 10th, 2015simchadaycamp.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/SDC... · 2015. 7. 10. · SimchaTheThe Summer 2015 s"xc Issue 2 July 10th, 2015 Parshas

with the fishes as they fished on 2 separate trips this past week. Many fish were caught, some even larger than the bait! On each trip we even caught a keeper! Gefilte fish and sunscreen, here we come! Leagues kicked off this week with a front stroke! Even at the swimtabulous Latenight, campers played hard for the win, being competitive and sensitive at the same time. Here at S.D.C. achdus and sportsmanship come first. Our League shirts are on the way. We are prepping for our first grand overnight of the season, our much sought after Kalahari 2 day overnight extravaganza! Stay tuned for more info, itineraries and pick up notices. What a swimlicious week it was! Can’t wait to fill you in on what happens next week!

Now go back and count how many times you can find the word SWIMand anything related to SWIMMING and send the correct answer to

[email protected] to be mentioned in next week’s issue of The Scoop!

Last week there were 21 Gaga words in the article. The winners to last weeks Gaga Contest are: Yehuda Blum B25 & ari Blum B61!

The sounds of campers hard at fun reverberated throughout our huge campus during the first week of Sports Clinics. All the campers from the 20’s and up, worked very hard at developing their basketball shooting technique (feet apart, make a box with your arm, palm to shamayim....) dribbling techniques (with the help of some professional blinder goggles) and on their baseball swings. The campers rose to the challenge by all the drills and will be moving on to team offense and defense drills as well as individual defense skills this coming week. Some scouts from M.L.B. teams have been watching and hoping that the campers would sign with them. The idea of having Sports Clinics in S.D.C. was the brainchild of Rabbi Dachs, Rabbi Taub and Rabbi Sudwerts when they met in January to decide how to make the best camp in the world a tiny bit better. After shooting down some ideas such as moving the camp to the moon, filling the water fountains with Gatorade, and skydiv-ing lessons, they decided to play it safe and to add Sports Clinics so that campers may improve on their already innate sports abilities. Some of the benefits of playing sports are building teamwork, self-esteem, and encouraging a healthy active life-style. I’m so happy to be working with the campers of S.D.C. and also happy Rabbi Taub, Rabbi Sudwerts and Rabbi Dachs didn’t choose the other options, because I’m scared of heights. Looking forward to seeing more and more improvements in your sons as the summer continues. Please practice with your son to strengthen all the skills that we have honed thus far.

The 40’s Funky Ferraris have started Leagues and have begun with a SMASH!! Leagues began last Wednesday and the boys demonstrated extreme athleticism, sportsmanship, and middos in both the hockey court and the baseball field. During the intense game on the hockey court, DoviD Kenigsberg refused to let his team be beat and he scored a hat trick, thereby helping the Rippers cement their first victory. At the same time, the Scribes were busy dominating the Stompers with Ari Moller and Zevi HersHKowitZ hitting back-to-back homeruns! And how could we forget to mention the Turkey’s comeback back in the bottom of the last inning to win with a score of 12-11. On Thursday, things began to heat up even more, with more amazing plays. During a heated kickball game, JereMy greenberg helped lead Stone Cold to victory by kicking a monster 3-run-homer and a 2-run triple! But while that kickball game was going on, yeHuDA bArtH was busy making some impos-sible catches in his game of kickball, thereby helping the Slicers beat out the Scribes in what was another intense game, with a final score of 7-5. On that same day we also had some baseball games going on. During their game of baseball, the Vikings fought valiantly against the Whackers with Meyer AlexAnDer DAviD hitting an awesome double to right field! But it wasn’t enough because J.J. ostroff proceed-ed to hit a massive grand slam and lead the Whackers to a 4-2 victory. With a fresh week ahead of them, the League came back on Monday, ready for action and boy did they get it, with many awesome plays happening on Monday. First off, sHloMo gottlieb hit an astonish-ing grand slam for the Slicers. But thanks to yitZi bleiberg’s spot-on pitching, combined with the team’s stellar defense, the Stompers ran down the clock and the game ended in a tie. Meanwhile, yAAKov ellen from the Vikings was busy kicking 2 homeruns during his game of kickball against the Turkeys. On Tuesday, the teams tried hard to earn another win next to their team names. The Vikings finally got their first win with yosef tZvi brown helping out his team by kicking an awesome double to center and stealing the victory with a score of 10-1! In the baseball game going on at the same time, AHAron yosef obADiA was busy pitching a stellar game and helping his team to victory with a score of 3-1.And that’s a wrap guys. What a blast! Looking forward to next week!!
