• PPI - proprietary master / slave protocol, up to 187.5Kbaud, most often used for programming, building networks of S7-200 CPUs, or to connect operator interfaces.

• MPI - proprietary protocol, up to 187.5Kbaud, most often used by the S7-300/400 CPUs and other SIMATIC devices, to communicate with the S7-200 CPUs. When a S7-200 CPU is communicating to a MPI master it cannot be a PPI Master.

• Freeport - a mode of operation through which the CPU program can literally define the protocol of the CPU communications port, most of-ten used to connect other intelligent devices that support a serial ASCII protocol at speeds up to 38.4Kbaud.

■ Communications

The S7-200 Micro PLC systems provides a wide range of communi-cation choices which allow connections to:

• Personal computers for programming and monitoring

• Operator panels

• PROFIBUS-DP networks

• AS-interface networks

• Ethernet Networks

• Other intelligent devices

■ AS-Interface expansion moduleThe CP243-2 is the AS-Inter-face Master for the S7-200 Mi-cro PLC system. By using AS-Interface, you can dramatical-ly reduce the wiring costs in most any application. (Refer to the AS-Interface section of this catalog for additional in-formation on AS-Interface.)

When bi-directional slaves are implemented, up to 434 bina-ry elements can be activated via 62 AS-Interface slaves which significantly increase the I/O capacity of an S7-200 system.

The CP243-2 features:

• a terminal block for direct connection of the AS-Inter-face cable

• front panel LEDs for dis-playing the operating state as well as the connected and activated slaves and their availability

• one pushbutton for chang-ing the operating states and the status/slave display as well as accepting the exist-ing configuration.

The CP243-2 can be used in two operating modes.

Standard mode -Only the da-ta bits of the slaves may be addressed in this operating mode. No master calls are executed. Up to 434 Input/Outputs (Max. 248 inputs & 186 outputs) may be ad-dressed via the 8 AI/AO area.

Extended mode -The CP243-2 offers access to master calls in accordance with AS-Inter-face specification V2.1 (e.g. writing parameters).

■ PROFIBUS-DP Slave ModuleThe PROFIBUS-DP module is an extremely versatile com-munications module. It can be used to connect:

• an S7-200 CPU (as a slave) to a PROFIBUS-DP network

• other peripherals capable of being an MPI master

Unlike many DP devices, the EM 277 module does not transfer only I/O data. The EM 277 moves data to and from a block of variable memory de-fined in the S7-200 CPU. This allows you to exchange any type of data with the master (inputs, counter values, timer values, data memory, etc.)

The EM 277 can also be used as a communication interface to other MPI masters, wheth-er or not it is being used as a PROFIBUS-DP slave. Exam-ple connections are:

• S7-300/400 to the S7-200 using the XGET/XPUT

• STEP 7-Micro/WIN and a network card (such as the CP5511) for programming, monitoring, etc.

• TD200 or TP070 operator interface panels.

A maximum of six connec-tions (devices) are allowed; one connection is reserved for a programming device and one is reserved for an opera-tor panel. The other four con-nections can be used by any MPI master. In order for the module to communicate with multiple masters, all masters must be operating at the same baud rate. There are limitations including:

• cannot be used for commu-nication between S7-200 PLCs using NETR/NETW.

• cannot be used for Freeport communication

■ The EM 241 Modem Module-a small, but significant revolutionThe EM 241 modem module is the perfect solution for your PLC's remote communication needs, including remote diag-nostics, machine control, alarm systems and general communication functions.

That's because the EM 241 offers Plug&Play capability for all the usual modem commu-nication tasks in the PLC envi-ronment.

Whether remote maintenance or remote diagnostics, CPU-to-CPU or CPU-to-PC commu-nication or for sending SMS messages over a modem (pa-rameterized with the help of the modem wizard which is in-tegrated in Micro/ WIN from V3.2 upwards), no program-ming is necessary

■ The EM 241 modem module has a lot to offer:• Free CPU interface::Exter-

nal modems occupy the CPU interface. Not the EM 241, which is simply plugged into the expansion module.

• Maximum security: Opti-mal password protection and/ or callback function in-tegrated.

• Worldwide, flexible appli-cation: All essential ap-provals, national settings via a rotary switch on the module, automatic baudrate selection between 300 baud and 33.6 Kbaud, pulse or tone signal dialing.

• Inexpensive assembly: Thanks to standardized power supply, top-hat rail mounting and the standard RJ11 socket for connection to worldwide analog tele-phone networks, no extra work is necessary in the control cabinet.

• Integrated communication solutions: remote mainte-nance or remote diagnos-tics, Solutions for all the main types of applications are already integrated in the module:

• Fast commissioning: Just take it out of the box, set the country code, plug it into the S7-200 expansion bus, then connect 24 V DC and the telephone line. Fin-ished! The configuration is read from the CPU automat-ically.

■ CP 243-1

Previously the Ethernet con-nections was a "privilege" of the SIMATIC controllers of the medium and upper perform-ance range. The SIMATIC NET CP 243-1 allows connec-tion of the S7-200 controllers to an Ethernet network. This is the first fully integrated Eth-ernet connection for micro controllers.

The CP 243-1 communica-tions processor enables the S7-200 to be linked to the Eth-ernet.

• Remote configuration, pro-gramming and diagnostics of a SIMATIC S7-200 with STEP 7-Micro/WIN is possi-ble via Ethernet.

• A S7-200 control system with CP 243-1 can ex-change data with other S7 control systems through Ethernet.

• The S7-200 data can be ac-cessed by PC applications using the S7-OPC. Process data can thus be easily stored and edited.

■ CP 243-1IT

The CP 243-1IT offers web functions in addition to the CP243-1 functionality. The S7 communication and program-ming of the S7-200 CPU are fully compatible with the CP243-1.

The CP 243-1IT communica-tion processor is connected to the S7-200 PLC via the back-plane bus and to Industrial Ethernet by means of an RJ-45 interface.

The CP 243-1IT is designed for the following applications:

• Operator control and moni-toring via integrated web server.

• Web servers (HTTP servers) with 8-Mbyte file system to store own web pages (HTML pages).

• ·Ready-made HTML pages for status, configuration and to display and write varia-bles.

• Java beans to create own appletts with a Java devel-opment environment .

• FTP Server for file system access via network. It is used to load the HTML pag-es to the CP.

• Access rights can be set for 8 users.
