The exemplary way that the young people conducted themselves during our 'silent protest' was a credit to the school, the parents/carers and the local community. The young people were outstanding ambassadors for the school. They feel passionately about Llandrindod HS, as do we, and the future of secondary education in this town. All of our students will all be involved in the consultation process via a questionnaire and a significant number will also take part in a discussion with representatives from the local authority. There will also be a questionnaire coming to you as well as the opportunity to take part in the consultation meeting at The Pavilion on the 14th April. Can I urge you to fill in this questionnaire and get tickets to the meeting to support us. Rebecca has recently been commissioned to create a sizable sculpture for the Bronllys Hospital’s woodland walk. The theme for the piece is ‘Marking Time’. The inspiration for the sculpture is to help the nation’s servicemen and women ease back into a normal life. A quote from the website describes the piece as, “a sculpture with a narrative that releases the imagination, shows protectiveness and how the burden of being fierce and brave is shared and eased by those, of all sizes, being protected”. Rebecca led the day long workshop by sharing her ideas, knowledge and expertise. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the process and the experience of working with a professional Artist. We can’t thank Rebecca enough for her time and hard work. We wish her all the best for the completion of the sculpture. Back in October 2015 we started a Knitting andCrochet Club here at Llandrindod High School. Everyweek the group have enjoyed coming together to  learnhow to master these crafts by making squares, with aview to making a blanket to donate to an organisationcalled ‘Knit for Peace’. This amazing organisationdistribute knitted and crochet items to refugees andother people in need. So, 4 months on we are delightedto have completed not just one but two lovely blankets! In addition to the squares the pupils and staff havemade, the blankets were helped to come together by

donations of squares from several members of the local community. These blankets willnow be sent off to the organisation to help those people in most need.Thank you to all the pupils, members of staff and the community for all their hard work andinvolvement in this worthwhile project. We hope to continue the club to improve our knitting and crocheting skills, and to makeother items in the future.Mrs J Chittenden

S C I E N C E N E W SPupils from Llandrindod High School have returned fromanother successful Science Department trip to Paris. On the first full day in Paris pupils enjoyed a visit to thescience park La Villette Cite des Sciences; a visit toSacre Coeur over looking the city; followed by a meal inL’Orange Bleu Restaurant and an evening coach tour ofParis. Then on Thursday pupils enjoyed themselves inthe presence of Mickey Mouse himself as theyexperienced Disney Land Paris. Finally on Friday the tripconcluded with a visit to Le Bourget Flight Museum, followed by a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower andconcluded with a relaxing cruise down the River Seine. All of the sites were accompanied by good food, laughterand endlessly new experiences. Haven been given thefantastic opportunity to explore Paris, many of those onthe trip would no doubt agree with Ernest Hemingway’scomments, ‘Wherever you go for the rest of your life,Paris stays with you.” Pupils and staff alike will havewonderful memories that will do just that.

A GRITTY teen novel about people traffickingwritten with the help of Llandrindod High Schoolstudents was officially launched in school onMarch 10th.The adventure story “A Bag For Life”was written by former teacher and script writerNick Yapp, along with 14 students fromLlandrindod High School. The format is believedto be unique in Wales, explained Mr Yapp.“I’m not sure that this has ever been donebefore, but I’d love to do it again,” said thewriter, who along with his editor Ruby Lescott, journeyed back and forth between London andLlandrindod while the novel was in progress.Starting when the students were in Year 7, aged11, and running for three years, the project saw the pupils learn how to plan, write and edit a novel -as well as chipping in their own ideas for “A Bag For Life”.The novel sees teenager Azim forced out of Afghanistan by a drug cartel and ends with a dramaticshoot-out on the clifftops above Aberystwyth.“The students were terrific,” said Mr Yapp. “No holds barred with their criticism, and full of ideas as towhere the book should go. This was a very happy project, thanks to the head of English at Llandrindod,Anwen Nicholls,” he added. The novel features iconic tourist destinations such as the market town of Rhayader and the RheidolRailway which runs to the Ceredigion coast. The novel is on sale in Verzon Books, Llandrindod.
