Research and DevelopmentSilent movies

To kick of this module we picked 3 words out of the “randomiser” and express a visual represenation of the word. My three words were diperse, zip and stretch. The word that we felt had more scope we developed further into 4 x 5 second idents on After Effects. I chose the word disperse as i felt it was the most descriptive and had more of a chance to be sucessful relayed via motion graphics.

To start our storyboard development for the silent movie brief we chose a letter that was contained within our word. I chose “d”. We were given three restained for a set of 3 12 storyboard.

1. static still 2. horizontal or verticle

3. depth of field

Here are some photographs of the initial development work for the 4 x 5second animations of the word DISPERSE in after effects. Initially we looked at storyboard animation for just one letter concentrating on its movement within the screen and portraying this on paper. Initially it was hard to try and capture the essence of the letter moving towards the screen and across the screen.

more finalised storyboards

Here are some more storyboard development work for the work disperse. Initially my ideas were too illustrative to comply with the brief so I had to rethink some of them and develop them to be more text based.

I was now at the stage where I wanted to create acurate storyboards that could be translated into After Effects. I chose to collage my final storyboards as the process of hand craft rekates more to who I am as a designer and is an easy way for me to create storyboards. I was pleased with how well I managed to stick to these storyboards in my final outcomes.

These are key frames of my final silent movies (the last is on my design practice blog). The keyframes were taken every 5 frames to give a good indication to the timeline of the composition.
