Working of Distillation Column

Distillation column works on the principle of conversion of liquid components into gaseous and again into liquid state to extract the pure form of the solvent. Or in other words it is process that undergo repeated boiling and condensation of the sample mixture to extract the pure form of the components present in the given sample mixture. There are two common application of distillation column in the industries: one id the identification of the organic compound and second is the purification of the organic compounds.

To accomplish the purity of solvent in industries manufacturing whisky, food items and extracting petroleum products distillation column has been used in a three different ways.

Simple Distillation Column is used in the food industries to remove the moisture content of the food item.

Vacuum distillation is used in the petroleum refineries to extract the pure form of the gas oils like light-cycle oil (a type of distillate), gasoline, and naphtha.

However, fractional distillation is used the extraction of petroleum products derived from crude oils

Signification of Industrial Distillation Process

In beverage industry distillation is used in manufacturing distilled drinks like whisky. In Scotland Scotch Whisky is produced after distillation of whisky around two to three times.

Distillation Column has another very important usage in the determination of the boiling point of the components present in the sample mixture.

It has been estimated that in the United States about 80% of the refineries have vacuum distillation plant installed.
