XVI. BRIEF ACHIEVEMENTS IN RESEARCH / TEACHING, ACADEMIC AND

ADMINISTRATION / EXTENSION

A. Research i. Handled externally funded projects

Establishment a unit of Seed Processing Facilities for Vegetable Crops under SHM-UPCAR sponsored project as Principal Investigator and Inaugurated the unit by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor BHU Dr. Lalji Singh on 30-08-2012.

Standardization of technology for production of vegetables organically under HTMM at SKUAST-K, Srinagar as Principal Investigator.

Technology Assessment and Refinement through Institute Village Linkage Programme (HMIVLP-11), Regional Agricultural Research Sub-Station, SKUAST (K), Kargil as Co-Principal Investigator.

Strategies for increasing Crop Production in Cold Region (>5500 ft amsl), Regional Agricultural Research Sub-Station, SKUAST (K), Kargil Centre as Co-Principal Investigator.

Remandating ZARS and KVK, SKUAST (K), Kargil as Subject Matter Specialist.

ii. Technologies Introduced

1. Trench Vegetable Production Technology Introduced for the First Time in Kargil

Found most suitable for leafy vegetable production during winter months when temperature goes down -40o C in open field.

Produce one months advance seedling of cabbage, cauliflower, brinjal, chilli and tomato under trench.

Standardized round the year vegetable production system/ cropping scheme under trench.

2. Mulching in Vegetable Crops Introduced for the First Time in Kargil

Enhanced water use efficiency and checked significant weed growth in cabbage and

tomato.

Among different mulches (natural mulches/polyethylene mulches), black polyethylene

has been found most economical, which increased yields up to 50 % in cabbage and

tomato and also reduce the irrigation frequency.

3. Double cropping of cabbage

A package and practices for growing double cropping of cabbage in a year has been

standardized for Kargil conditions.

Variability and selection parameter studied in okra, tomato, brinjal, pea, french bean,

spinach, radish, lettuce, and ash gourd and paper published in reputed journals.
