Getting to the point, making it clear.

Listening takes eff ort, and it is not just about understanding speech, it’s about how easy it is to understand. Let’s take this visual analogy: In the left image, you can still read the letters, but it’s diffi cult. In the right image, highlighting the letters makes them stand out, so they’re easier to read. In the same way, primax highlights speech from background noise to make hearing eff ortless.

Redefi ning the ease of listening.

The methods used for testing hearing eff ort in the past were principally subjective and only recorded after the hearing test. As a result, they were often found to be inaccurate. To obtain an objective measurement that represents the listening eff ort, a new method that measures brain activity was developed.

Getting a truer picture.The new test method measures ongoing electroencephalographic activity of the brain. By analyzing ongoing, rather than evoked activity, tests can be conducted over longer periods while the subject undertakes tasks such as speech intelligibility tests. Applying this novel approach, we‘re able to prove clinically* that primax features reduce listening eff ort throughout the day.

At the offi ce, phones are ringing and people are talking across the open-plan room. For a one-on-one conversation, it’s a distracting situation. Noise reduction is automatically activated, minimizing unwanted sound such as the phones. When people around the wearer start speaking, SpeechMaster also attenuates them and focuses on the main voice, making understanding eff ortless.

Our hearing instrument wearer is enjoying breakfast with the family. The radio is playing and someone is rustling through the pages of the newspaper. SpeechMaster engages noise reduction to minimize the rustling of the paper and other noises in the background so that the voice from across the table is singled out for clear and eff ortless understanding.

Our wearer is with friends at a street café. Traffi c in the background is loud and mingles with the noise of the wind and chatter from the next table, making hearing diffi cult. Here, directional microphones and noise reduction are activated, suppressing the traffi c sounds while eWindScreen™ binaural cuts down the wind noise. SpeechMaster also attenuates surrounding sound even further by singling out the main speaker.

Our wearer is chatting to a colleague on the way to work. In the background, the sound of announcements and trains make this a demanding situation. SpeechMaster activates speech and noise management to reduce the unwanted sounds and narrow directionality to focus on speech coming from the front. The voices of the speakers within the directional cone behind the colleague are also attenuated for clear and relaxed conversation.

Wireless CROS/BiCROS: An end to one-sided conversation.

Ideal for patients with un-aidable hearing loss in one ear: primax CROS and BiCROS solutions are based on e2e wireless™ 3.0 with its industry benchmark for low energy consumption. A CROS Pure™ transmitter is worn behind the un-aidable ear and the sound it receives is sent wirelessly to the primax hearing aid on the other side, thus allowing the wearer to hear sounds from both sides.

In order to emulate natural binaural listening, we fi rst need to link the two hearing aids, just like the brain uses input from both ears. Building upon the original e2e technology, e2e wireless 3.0 enables exchange of audio signals between two hearing aids in a bilateral fi tting. As a result, each hearing aid not only uses the information picked up by itself, but also the acoustic signals received by the contralateral hearing aid. In two-microphone instruments, this means each instrument works with input from four microphones. In a bilateral fi tting, they create a virtual eight-microphone network. Similarly, e2e wireless 3.0 allows single microphone instruments such as the tiny Insio binax CICs to exchange audio signals between each other. In bilateral fi ttings, they create a virtual four-microphone network. These virtual microphone networks provide a heightened sensitivity of the acoustic environment. We call this “High Defi nition Sound Resolution” or HDSR.

The smartHome solutions by Bellman & Symfon deliver special signals to our wireless hearing aids, alerting the wearer in a number of critical situations. Through specially designed easy-to-install sensors, transmitters and monitors, the system enhances the safety and independence of the hearing aid wearer and loved ones.

The smartHome solutions are a small footprint, and energy-effi cient technology that leverage the smart connectivity of our wireless hearing instruments to transmit signals directly to the hearing aids via the easyTek or miniTek wireless streamer:

Designed for people with an un-aidable hearing loss in one ear, primax CROS and BiCROS hearing solutions off er better all-round hearing. A CROS Pure transmitter worn behind the un-aidable ear senses sound, processes it and transmits it to the primax hearing aid on the other side, thus allowing the wearer to hear sounds from both sides.

Hearing instrument receives the sounds from the un-aidable side and sends it into the ear canal so the signal can be heard.

Step 2:Put the hearing instruments into the ears and turn them on. The green LED fl ashes briefl y and then slowly fades. Now the hearing aids are paired.

Bluetooth-enabled devicesStep 1:Turn easyTek on by pressing and holding for several seconds. If the blue LED does not automatically start fl ashing, press and until it does.

Step 2:Turn on the device’s Bluetooth function. Search for easyTek and select it. The blue LED fl ashes briefl y and then slowly fades.

Move the ThinTube close to the interface on the hearing aid. Make sure the ThinTube is straight on the screw thread.

Rotate the ThinTube clockwise until it sits fully tightened in the screw thread.

Please check if the ThinTube is aligned to the hearing aid body to ensure a perfect fi t and optimum sound transmission.

* Study conducted at the University of Northern Colorado, 2015, examined the effectiveness of the new features of primax by collecting and analyzing ongoing EEG data while subjects performed speech testing. For both primax features SpeechMaster and EchoShield, the objective brain behavior measures revealed a significant reduction in listening effort when the feature was activated.
