You might be surprised that Samuel Beckett’s favorite composer was Franz Schubert. Placing their works in the same context – especially Beckett’s short plays and Schubert’s lieder – reveals how powerfully both evoke haunting images with great economy. In a theatrical evening structured like a recital, this performance reveals their common ground, unleashing the music’s drama and the drama’s music, exploring how the austerity of a Schubert song can illuminate the sonorous beauty of Beckett’s prose.

“Catastrophe,” “Ohio Impromptu,” “Rockaby,” “That Time,” “Come and Go,” and “Act Without Words II” are presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
