Background:

The old cramped kitchen was not conducive to this growing family’s needs. The dining room was cut off

from the kitchen. Sicora opened up a wall on the main level which gave the opportunity to expand the foot

print of the kitchen. The old cabinets did not keep items organized. New custom cabinets with integrated

pullout pantry shelves keep this kitchen in order. An island with bar seating allows the cooks to interact

with their guests. Glass and stone mosaic backsplash complete the look.

Challenge:

Creating a space for entertaining and display was much needed for this family.

Solutions:

Just a small addition off the back of the home and removing a small wall was all that was needed to make

this kitchen feel more spacious. The new island creates space for three people to pull up a stool and be a

part of the cooking action. The stove was moved to the opposite wall which made it possible to have

countertop on either side. A custom 8’ high floor to ceiling pantry was added along with a few pull out

shelving units for canned goods. A double trash pullout and several deep and wide drawers for pots and

pans make storage easier. Glass panels were added to the upper portion of the wall cabinets to create

spaces for the owners vintage cookie jar and dish collections. Mosaic tile backsplash frames the kitchen

sink window. The new floor plan opens the kitchen up to the dining creating a space for larger gatherings.

This lifestyle layout provides connections between the living and the cooking spaces.

This kitchen was small and cramped for space. It had little counterspace and felt dark and

closed off.

The pantry was inefficient and items would get lost in the back.

Custom made pull out cabinets create a clean and easy way to store pantry items. A

larger size stained built in pantry creates space for larger items.

Cabinets did not allow for displaying the homeowners collection of vintage cookie jars.

Pots and pans had to be stored on an open shelving unit that took up floor space.
