Events and Consequences of the Red River Rebellion
Introduction
In science we learn that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Each of the events of the Red River Rebellion had consequences for both the Métis and the government.
Instructions
Your task is to create a timeline of the events in the Red River Rebellion starting with 1860. For every event, you must also assess the consequences for both sides.
Here is an example of an entry:
Date
EventConsequence for Métis
Consequence for Government
1860
Arrival of new immigrants to Red River Valley.
Increased control of West.
ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES
Your timeline may be a chart, or look like the ones in your textbook (see page 169), or another format that makes sense. Your timeline should have at least ten events, and each must be accompanied by a detailed summary of the consequences. The timeline should be organized logically. You may submit your assignment on paper or electronically.

Because Louis Riel had stepped onto the surveyors chains, the surveyors did not intrude in the Métis’ land. This caused no more surveyors on their land so they could remain in possession of their land.
Since the surveyors stopped, all the land the Government receives from the surveyors is no more. This leads to less land for Canada.

Oct 18, 1869 National committee of the Métis
Riel wanted to protect the Métis’ land from the government, so he formed the National committee of the Métis which increased the protection of the Métis’ Land.
This in result made getting Métis’ Land much harder for the government.

Nov 2, 1869, Fort Garry Captured
Louis Riel managed to gather up some troops and take over the Government’s Fort Garry. This gave the Métis’ a source of weapons to fight back if there was a rebellion.
The government lost the weapons from Fort Garry. But they got some evidence that the Métis may be starting or planning a rebellion.
1869
Nov 11, 1869 Lieutenant-Governor William McDougall arrives
Lieutenant – Governor William McDougall’s job was to govern the territory. Instead he got captured and taken away by the Métis. This helped the Métis to protect their territory from the government ruling over their land.
McDougall was unable to govern over the Métis, so they failed to control the Métis’ Land.

Dec 1, 1869 Canada Rules Rupert’s Land
On December 1, Canada was supposed to take control of the HBC's land. But they were steady and unsure about the Métis and did not go with the plan. This meant that the Métis’ land was still owned by HBC, which was good for them to protect your land.
Because of this action, the government failed to take over the Red River settlement.

Jan 1, 1870 Armed Canadians Try To Attack Fort Garry
The Canadians failed to attempt to try to take over For Garry, and were put to jail by Riel. This resulted in another scary attack from the government, but the Métis kept their possession of land. This also took away some Anti-Métis as well.
The Government did not get control of the Métis property, and it was a failed attempt. Some Canadians were caught and put in Riel’s jail.
