Seeing the love that Parvatiji had for “Ram naam” (the Lord’s Name), Lord Shankar became elated and considering Parvatiji to be the best among all the chaste women, he made her a part of His very own form “adhaarngini” When one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she becomes the crest-jewel among all the chaste wives. Many young ladies pray to Paravatiji, by which they can get a good husband, a good family, and can be happy. The mother of earth – Janakiji also worships and prays to Paravatiji. Janakiji’s mother tells her to pray to Paravatiji. Janakiji prays to Paravatiji to grant her a husband of her choice. By praying to Paravatiji (Sati) one can get a good husband. Sati is the jewel of all wives. If one takes the name of Sati, then one can become chaste. The name of Sati has such power and influence that by simply by reciting the divine Name, one can become chaste. Lord Shiva becoming pleased with Sati and He made her His “ardhaangini”. You may have seen a picture of Lord Shiva

(half right side is form of Shiva and other half the left side is the form of Paravati). A poet has written about this beautiful and extra-ordinary scene -

Nipeeya stanmekam cha muhuranyam

A child when he suckles on the mother’s breast, he also possessively grabs hold of the other breast, hoping that no one else may drink from the other breast. He wants to keep his hold to drink the milk from that breast as well. Similarly Ganeshji also one time is drinking the mother’s milk but when he was searching for the other breast, he could not find it? Paravatiji said where can I get the other breast? (she was in the ‘ardhaangini form’ – part Shankarji and part Paravatiji).

Lord Shankar made his chaste and pure wife, Paravatiji who used to recite the name of Lord Ram, a part of His own body. He had great love for the divine name of the Lord – Ram. Seeing so, Paravatiji asked -

Tumh puni Ram Ram din raati |Sunder japahu anang aaraati (Manas,

“O’ great king, you are day and night and at all times, reciting the name of the Lord Ram. With the recitation of each name of Lord Ram, Your faith, love, reverence is increasing daily. There is neither awareness of day, nor of night. Whose name is it that you recite? What is this name of “Ram”, My Lord? When Paravatiji asked, there after Lord Shiva shares with her the divine story of Lord Ram.

Initially Lord Shankar (Shiva), had kept the story of Lord Ram within his own mind and heart. He did not want to tell others, but on finding the right occasion, He shared the story of Lord Ram, with Paravatiji. (to be continued)

Lord Shankar was so much in love with Lord Ram’s divine name that “chitaabhasmalepah” - he used to apply the ashes of dead bodies all over his body. On this subject I have heard that - a man who had died was being taken to the cremation ground. People were chanting “Ram Naam Sat hai” (Lord Ram’s name is only thing that is real.” Shankar saw that this was a devotee, as the chanting of the Lord’s name was with great feeling and intensity. He joined the group. Lovers of the Lord’s name naturally gravitate to the beautiful chanting of the Lord’s name. Just as on hearing about

money, the greedy automatically gravitate towards that direction, on hearing about gold, the one who is greedy about gold automatically thinks that may he also get some gold so I can make some jewelry. Similarly even in Lord Shankar’s mind when He heard Lord Ram’s name, He gravitated towards those men in the funeral procession.

Now the people burned the dead body in the funeral home and while they were all returning home, then Lord Shankar thought - how strange, these men are just the same as before; but they are no longer reciting the name of the Lord! He thought, it must be something divine about that dead body, due to which people were reciting “Ram.” That dead body must be so pure! Lord Shankar went to the cremation ground and saw, that the body was burnt to ashes. Therefore he applied the ashes of the dead body on Him, and began to live there. Therefore in the “Raakh” (ashes) the letter “R” and in the “Murdaa” (dead body) the letter “M” , in this manner it became RAM. The divine Name “RAM” was most dear to Him. On hearing it, he used to become very pleased; he used to become very happy. Therefore he applied ashes to His body. Some poet said -

Sati is best of all but in her name there is no “R” and “M” at all. Therefore Shankar left Sati. On sacrificing her he suffered by himself and his mind was not satisfied in being alone. Therefore Kaak-Bhushundi

became a swan and went to him and shared the divine tales of Lord Ram “Ramcharit”. It so happened that once Sati, took on the form of Sitaji, due to which he could not love Sati again and inspite of living together he thereafter did not love her, and placed her seating across from Him, no next to Him like he always did. Then after Sati, gave up her body, He became restless from separation from her.

Sati took birth in the house of Mount Himalaya. Were there no other demi-gods around? However due to being his daughter, she was given the name of Girija Paravati and therefore in this name there was the letter “R.” Even then whether Lord Shankar will accept me or not, who knows? She started doing severe austerities and penance.

“Puni parihare sukhaneu paranaa | Umahi naamu tab bhayu aparana ||

(Manas, Balakand 74/7)

When Parvatiji left eating dried leaves, her name became “Arpana”. In whichever way, let there be “R” in my name she thought. Seeing such love in Paravati, Lord Shankar was so pleased, that he did not wish to keep her at a distance, and with such a thought He merged her into His body - “Vishnu padi Ganga tohu, ghurjati dhaari na sees per”

To bring Gangaji to earth, Bhagirath did severe penance, therefore Gangaji’s name has become Bhagirathi. Lord Shankar, engulfed Gangaji into the braids of his hair, just as water is poured into a pot, then it moves around in that pot by itself. Similarly Gangaji, was moving around in Lord Shankar’s braids.

It was in her mind that who can stop my movement. I can take anyone all the way to the lower regions “paataal” Lord Shanker, kept her locked in his braids. Ages passed by, and Gangaji prayed to Lord Shankar. Thereafter He gently loosened his braid and three of her streams came flowing down. One went to the heavenly regions, one went to lower regions, and one came to the earth region. Therefore she was called “Tripathgaamini”

Lord Shankar has an extra-ordinary love for the

Divine Name “Ram”. It is due to the power of the Name that He made Parvatiji a part of His own form.

“Naam prabhaavu jaan siva neeko | Kaalakoot phal dinh ami ko (Manas, Balkand,

Doha 19/8)

He deeply knew the glories of the name of Lord Ram. When the churning of the ocean was taking place, the poisons was being churned out, at that time the demi-gods and demoniac ones became frightened. They called out to Lord Shanker - Bhole baba! Save us, the world is coming to an end!” Taking the name of Lord Ram, Lord Shankar immediately drank the poison and stored it in His throat. After taking in the sound “RA”, he placed the poison in between, and on top he sounded “M”, thereafter the sounds did the work of nectar to that poison. That poison that is capable of killing merely on touch, caused Lord Shiva to become “blue”. Thus Shiva became “Neelkanth” (one with the blue neck). The poison does it’s work, therefore he stopped it at the throat. If the poison comes out, it makes the mouth bitter, and if it goes inside, then it can kill. Such a divine name of Ram made Lord Shiva immortal.

Lok Laahu paralok nibaahoo (Manas, Baalakaand, Doha 20/2)

In repeating the Divine Name of Lord Ram is not difficult. “Ra” and “Ma” these two alphabets are easy in vocalizing; because these alphabets are non aspirate “alpapraan,” i.e. in sounding out these two syllables, one’s life breath is not used up as much. The ease with which one can sound out “Ra” that one cannot do with “Ha,” because “Ha” is “mahapraan” (forcefully uses up one’s life breath). Just as Kha, Pha, Cha, Tha and tha – each section’s second and fourth alphabet is a “mahapraan”. We can say the alphabet “Ka” for a long time, but we cannot say the “alphabet” “Kha” for long. Very quickly the breath will get exhausted; because it is a “Mahapraan”. The fifth alphabet (e.g. Na, Ma, dng, Ana, Na) – are “alpa praan” and “yanshravaalp praanaah” Ya, Ra, La Va, is also “alpapraan” It is easy to sound out the words that have “alpapraan” and one can sound the out for extended periods of time. The alphabets that have “mahapraan” exhaust one quickly. Due to having “alpapraan” in the name Raam, it is very easy to recite the Name of Lord Ram.

Why did Valmikiji not be able to get a non-aspirate “alpapraan” name? Pay attention! The Name of Lord Ram is easy to recite; however he who is very sinful, for him it is difficult to recite the name of the Lord. There is a saying -

“Majaal kyaa hai jeev ki, jo Raam Naam leve; Paap deve thaap ki, jo mundo phor deve.”

He who is not very virtuous, he is unable to take the name of the Lord. It is said in the Bhagavad Gita -

“Yesham tvantagatam paapam janaanaam punyakarmanaam |

He whose sins are wiped out, he alone can with a firm determination become engaged in worship and devotion of God. On the subject of the divine name “Ram” it has been said in the scriptures and saints have also shared such things. There is a similar incident that I had heard -

This is about Baankuda, where there was a gentleman named Sri Badridasji Goenka. They were sharing their past incidents. An old Bengali man was catching fish in the coastal areas of the ocean. Shri Jayadayalji Goyandka and Badridasji saw the man and said - “ this man has become old, poor soul, if he were to engage himself in devotion and worship of the Lord, it would be good.” They told him to recite the name of the Lord, but he was unable to say the name “Ram”. He was asked, how much money do you make each day? He said by killing that many fish, I get this much money. Then they told the old man, that we will give you as much rice for the money that you make, you simply have to sit in your shop and recite Hari Hari all day. With some effort, he was taken to the shop. He sat there for one day. On the second day he came late, and the third day he did not show up at all. Then after two-three days when we went back to the coastal front, he was once again found in the same spot, in the scorching Sun, catching fish. We told him that you were comfortably sitting in the shade in your shop, what was the issue or problem? Whatever you are earning doing this work, we are giving you that much in grains, only you have to sit all day and chant “Hari Hari” He said, it is not possible for me to do this. He could not sit at the shop. Such incidents have occurred. I then believed that the point is valid Brother! It is very difficult for a sinner to engage in good and divine work. Shri Tulasidasji Maharaj has said -

www.swamiramsukhdasji.net

When the fever is burning high, then food is not appetizing. There is odor even in the foods. Just as when the fever is high then food is not palatable, similarly he whose sins are many, he is unable to engage in devotion and worship of God. He is unable to go to satsang (company of holy men and/or association with truth)

Therefore Gentlemen! Pay attention to this one point. Those brothers who are interested in satsang, who go to satsang, who say the divine name of the Lord, who do japa (repetition of the Lord’s name), such individuals should not be considered as ordinary. These are not ordinary people. They are doing “bhajan” (worship and devotion) of the Lord, they are pure and are deserving of God’s grace. However, those who walk the path towards the Lord, they should not consider themselves great that they are very good people. One should believe that it is due to God’s grace, by which we have received the opportunity for satsang, bhajan, meditation etc. We must understand that in such times of Kaliyug we are getting an opportunity to listen to the divine tales of the Lord, we are taking the name of the Lord. Immense grace of the Lord is showering on us. (to be continued)

Just as waters from a river are gravitating towards the ocean, similarly at this time the world and life is gravitating with great force towards hell. In studies, in pleasures, customs and rituals, in law and legal matters, in trading and business and various activities, whatever you see, there is

Page 11: Shri Hari ॥ - Swami Web viewWhen one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she

sin taking place with great force and intensity.

Goswamiji has described this - Kali kewal mal mool malin | Paap payonidhi jan man meenaa ||

(Manas, Balkand, 27/4) There is sins spreading with great force

all over, such that man’s mind will play away like fish in water. In other words, just like the fish when it is taken out of the water become restless, if she were made to understand ahead of time that you will be separated from the water, then she will become fearful; because she cannot live without the water, similarly, “paap payonidhi” - the ocean is the form of sins, where as the mind of a man has become like the fish “jan man meena”.

If today one is told that do not do “black” (engage in businesses that are off the books), do not lie or cheat, do not be dishonest, work honestly then they say “Maharaj! Work cannot carryon without lying and cheating in this day and age. If one works honestly then it will result in much difficulty. We cannot follow through with what you are saying.” On hearing talks about being free from sins, they begin to tremble. They say that it will be awesome if we can leave sinning, but it will not be possible to sustain their livelihood. We are only able to carry on our living and livelihood, because of lying, cheating and dishonesty.

Page 12: Shri Hari ॥ - Swami Web viewWhen one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she

O’ Lord ! O’ My Lord ! May I never forget You !

From such talks we must not believe that those with bad conduct, sinful and unlawful men cannot engage in devotion and worship of the Lord. Gita says -

Apichet suduraacharo bhajate maamananyabhaak |

Saadhureva samantavyah samyagvyavasito hi saha || (Gita 9/30)

Even if the worst of all sinners, make a firm determination and engages in devotion and worship of the Lord, then he should not be considered an ordinary man. God says - He should be considered a “sadhu” (ascetic); because he has firmly resolved.

In Gita, God has talked about four types of devotees of the Lord - “Aarto jigyaasuarthaarthi jnaani cha bharatarshabh” - a devotee “bhakt” in distress or needing financial assistance, takes the name of the Lord. A devotee who has quest for knowledge also takes the name of the Lord. But a loving devotee “jnani” from him “prabhuji biseshi piyaaraa” “jnana tvaatmaiva me matam” - such a devotee is the Lord’s very own Self (atma, spirit, inner being). (to be continued)

Those who remain attracted to the world, the “aart” and “arthaarthi” are also God’s devotees. However they are not called “arthaarthi” or “aart” devotees, due to

www.swamiramsukhdasji.net

Page 13: Shri Hari ॥ - Swami Web viewWhen one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she

taking the name of the Lord for want of money. “Aart” and “Arthaarthi” devotees “bhakt” are those who depend only on God for money and wealth. If we acquire wealth, we will acquire it from God alone, not from anyone else - such is their firm conviction.

Just as Naradji said to Dhruvji Maharaj, “You return back home. We will make arrangements with the King for you and your mother. We will even make you get back your kingdom” When Dhruvji did not accept this, then they terrified him! There are lions, tigers, snakes and many very large frightful creatures, they will eat you up, but then too Dhruv was neither scared nor did he get trapped in the lure of wealth and kingdom. Dhruvji, became immersed in repeating the divine Name of the Lord “japa”. Though initially his feelings were not pure, as he desired the kingdom. Regarding this Goswamiji Maharaj says -

Dhruv sagalaani japeu Hari Naaun | Paayau achal anupam thaayun || (Manas, Baalkand 26/5)

Dhruvji being saddened by the words of the second mother (second wife of the king), out of deep distress and desire he repeated the Name of the Lord. The other mother had taken him off the King’s lap. He was pulled and thrown out saying that he was undeserving of sitting in the King’s lap. He

was told that he is born of the womb of that unfortunate one, therefore he has no rights to sit on the King’s lap.” Dhruv was deeply saddened by these words. He asked his mother about this, to which she replied - “whatever your second-mother has told you is true. Neither you or I have done worship and devotion of the Lord, therefore we are in this present state. Or else why would we be in this state?” On hearing this, Dhruv began to do “bhajan” with the hope of gaining kingdom from God only. Even though Naradji showed fear and threatened, yet Dhruv did not budge from his aim. He went into the forest to do “Bhajan”; because he was firm and determinate. Such a devotee is called “arthaarthi” Nowadays, people desire wealth from God, but such people are not just devotees of God. Along side with money, they are devotees of lies, cheating and dishonesty. They are calling out to - “O Lord of Dishonesty! O’ Lord of Lies! O’ Lord of cheats! O’ Lord of Black Money! You make me prosper ! We will only live by your grace, and there is no other means of living. “they too are a kind of “arthaarthi” bhakt, but more so, they are devotees of sins, not of God. He who is a devotee of God, why will he commit sins? What! Does God not have even as much power as sins! (to be continued)

“Paapayonidhi jan mana meena” - First I did not quite understand. How is

www.swamiramsukhdasji.net

Page 15: Shri Hari ॥ - Swami Web viewWhen one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she

man’s mind so much engaged in sins? What is the reason? But nowadays when you see, then in many places it is heard that without lying and cheating we are unable to live. To sin is essential for one’s sustenance. Such individuals who are immersed in sins, if they are told to recite the Name of the Lord, then it is very difficult for them. The Lord’s name does not even arise in a sinner’s mouth. Such is the state of one who has sinned extensively.

On this subject a point comes to my mind. Brothers and sisters, please pay attention! With a firm determination, with bravery and a solemn resolve if you decide to repeat the name of the Lord “Ram Ram” then sins cannot remain. The two cannot remain together. Sins will flee away. If with a firm conviction, one is convinced, that taking the support of the Lord’s name, he who engages in devotion and worship of the Lord, his sins will be destroyed once and for all; then we too must surely become determinate in pursuing this path. Let us with a firm conviction become engaged in worship and devotion of God, then surely sins will not remain. Impurities will not last. Just as when the Sun rises, even the darkest night of “amavasya” (night of no moon) cannot remain, similarly, you all by His grace become deeply engaged in repeating the Lord’s name “ram” day and night, then all sins will be wiped out.

www.swamiramsukhdasji.net

Page 16: Shri Hari ॥ - Swami Web viewWhen one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she

O’ Lord ! O’ My Lord ! May I never forget You !

There was a saint, someone asked him - “Maharaj! You say do not sin. But we are unable to leave sins; however, show us a solution, a way, by which sins we are able to leave our sins. We do not have the courage to leave sinning.” The saint said - “Day and night you do japa of the Lord’s name ‘Ram Ram’.” “paap payonidhi jana mana meena” - such sinful people also have been given this solution. I have heard it for generations on end. Simply repeat the Lord’s name - Ram Ram. I thought, that see, the saints have such deep understanding, they have shared a straightforward path to become immersed in repeating the Lord’s name. What will happen by engaging in the Lord’s name is that the Lord’s name will become situated within. Right now it happens outwardly.

Pratham Ram rasanaa sivar, dviteeya kanth lagaaye|

Trutiya hrdaya dhyaan dhar, chauthe naabh milaaye| Adh madh uttam priya dhar thaanu, chauthe ati uttam asthaanu |

Yeh chahun bin dekhe aasarama, Ram bhagati ko pave maarmaa (Naamaaparachaa)

Like this the name of Lord “Ram” will penetrate within and do all the work. Purity, sanctity, flawlessness, devotion of the Lord – all that which has to come will all come. Therefore Goswamiji Maharaj has shared a very extra ordinary point - “naam jihan japi jaagajin jogi” If nothing else, then recite

www.swamiramsukhdasji.net

Page 17: Shri Hari ॥ - Swami Web viewWhen one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she

with your lips itself. “Tajjapastdarthbhaavanam” - When repetition of the Lord’s name is done and within one contemplates on the Lord, then what to speak of him! Simply by saying the Lords name with the tongue, the yogi is awakened. The he who repeats the Lord’s name simply by the tongue, he too becomes freed from the clutched of Brahmaji illusory powers and becomes a saint, disenchanted and unaffected by the world. And also it is very easy to repeat the name of the Lord simply by the tongue.

Many people say that - “When you repeat / recite the name of the Lord then is your mind remaining engaged or not? The says - if the mind is not engaged then you have no gains in this. The people who say such things are naïve. They are making a mistake. They do not really know such things; because they have never quite recited the Name of the Lord and seen for themselves. Has such a thing ever been possible that first the mind should be engaged and then we will do “japa” (divine name repetition)? Or will it ever be possible? Is there such likelihood? It is not possible that first the mind will be engaged and then we will do “Ram Ram” i.e. repeat the divine name of the Lord. The mind will become engaged while repeating the Lord’s name, by His grace. “Hari se laagaa raho bhai, teri bigadi baat ban jaayi Ramjise

www.swamiramsukhdasji.net

laagaa raho bhai.” Therefore one must take the refuge of the Divine Name. Initially start with “Ram Ram” with the mouth and tongue, and do not be concerned about the mind. “Do not be concerned” - this does not means that don’t engage the mind. It means that whether our mind gets engaged or not, do not be fearful that our Japa is not taking place. It is not so! Japa is definitely happening, simply keep continuing. We have heard -

“Mala to karamein phire, jeebh phire mukh maahim |

Manavaan to chahun disi phire, yeh to sumiran naahin ||

Where is it written that in this that worship and devotion of the Lord will not happen? It is written “sumiran naahi”. If the mind continues to dwell in worldly matters, then how can “sumiran” prayer of the Lord be taking ? Yes! Prayer and remembrance of the Lord takes place through the mind, but where does it say that “this is not japa”? Japa has taken place. If repetition of the Lord’s name is taking place merely by the tongue and mouth, then “japa” has taken place.

A saint was saying that establish a relationship with Paramatma in whatever and whichever way. Whether it be through knowledge or through the mind-intellect. Then what to speak of that!!! And if not, then simply by the mouth and tongue – simply by

calling out the Lord’s name “Ram” establish a relationship, then all will be alright. “anicchayaa hi sansprushtho dahatyeva hi paavakah” - If you touch the fire even without the mind realizing, then too it will inevitably burn, similarly, any which way you must take the name of the Lord -

Bhaav kubhaaya anakh aalasahun | Naam japat mangal disi dasahun ||

(Manas, Bala. 28/1) One must not take the wrong meaning

of this that we can take the name of the Lord with even bad sentiments and we do not even need to engage the mind in the Lord. Make the effort to absorb the mind in the Lord, remain careful and alert, connect the mind with the Lord, think of the Lord, but if it does not happen, then do not fear at all. What I am trying to say is that do not think that if the mind was unable to engage in the Lord then our Japa has been useless and a waste. If the mind does not engage right now, do not be concerned; because when your intent and direction is to engage the mind, then surely it will be engaged.

One thing is that we do not engage the mind and another is that the mind does not get engaged. There is a big difference between these two states. In outwardly appearance it seems to be the same, because in both these states the mind is not engaged. Even though the situation is the same; but though being the same, there is a big

difference. He who does not even try to engage the mind, his intent and aim is also not to engage the mind. He has no thoughts of engaging the mind. The other person wants to engage the mind in the Lord, but the mind does not do so. The Lord sees to the inner feelings of everyone’s heart –

Rahati na prabhu chit chuk kiye ki Karata surati saya baar hiyeki || (Manas,

Lord sees what is in his heart, that he wants to engage the mind but the mind is not engaging. Then O’ King! there will be great merit to this. There will be much affect and influence on the Lord. The Lord sees the intentions and motivations of a person. We must make an effort to engage the mind, but if it does not happen then do not be afraid, and continue to take the Divine Name of the Lord.

Ram ! Ram !! Ram !!!

This topic also describes the glories of the Lord’s Name - “Ram”. By listening to the glories, one can become interested in the Name of the Lord, but its real greatness is known only by “japa” - repeating of the Lord’s name. By sharing and listening to the greatness of the Lord’s Name, one develops interest in it and by repeating the Lord’s name “japa” one actually experiences,

therefore it is very valuable. The truth about it is known only by doing “japa”. Complete understanding is simply by doing japa. Just as when discussion about food takes place with a hungry man, then his attention and engrossment is significant. But without hunger, one is not that much interested in the food. When there is immense hunger then one is fully aware of how delicious the meal is! That meal of the hungry man is much relished, devoured, and easily digested. That meal is savored and one gains a lot of energy from it. Similarly, by saying the name of the Lord with much interest, one understands the greatness. Therefore the more one repeats the name of the Lord, the more he benefits.

Just as when there is a lot of money hoarded, then the greed for money increases even more. But in the end it leads to downfall, because the money is a perishable and destructible thing. Let us say that an ordinary man feels less deficiency of money, whereas a rich man feels more scarcity of money. An ordinary man feels the shortage in hundreds, whereas a rich man in thousands, and even more wealthy person, in the millions. And further even more rich man feel the deficiency in billions. Similarly even those that are engaged in “bhajan” (devotion and worship of the Lord), they too have a need for “bhajan”. Those who understand

the greatness of “bhajan,” experience a great need for it, feeling that they have not been able to do as much bhajan. However, those people who do not do Bhajan, they do not know this at all. They do not know its greatness. But as they feel something lacking within themselves, they begin to understand the greatness of “bhajan”. It has been said about those that recognize the greatness of bhajan, that simply by articulation and vocalization of the Divine Name, one attains salvation.

There is a holy book by the name of “Bhagvannaam-Koumudi”. In it there is detailed elaboration of the edicts of the scriptures. Those who recite the name of the Lord, become eligible to that Name. Just as Gajendra called out the Name of the Lord with deep distress, then the Lord manifested immediately. Calling out the Name of the Lord, loudy, hollering in distress, you will see the greatness very quickly. Similarly with deep sentiments if one takes the name of the Lord then it has extraordinary affect. It is said in a couplet -

Krishna naam jab shravan sune ri mein aali

Bhooli ri bhavan houn to baavari bhai ri

The hearts of those gopikas (cowherd girls) that were filled with love for the Lord, were overwhelmed and crazy simply by

listening to the Lord’s name. They used to lose consciousness and not know who they were, where they were! One’s state likewise becomes the same on reciting the name of the Lord. The editor of “Kalyan” brother Shri Hanumanprasadji Poddar had steadfast loyalty towards the Lord’s name. This incident is even before Kalyaan had started. Someone said – “What can come about by repeating the name of the Lord? He replied - you will attain “kalyaan” (salvation). They said, what is the point without knowing its meaning? The name Ram in English can mean multiple things… it can mean slamming or it can mean a kind of animal. At that time with great passion he said that with the divine name Ram one can surely attain salvation. He said it with such zeal, that he lost consciousness for the next 24 hours. No food, drink, visits to the bathroom or anything . His mother was deeply sad and distressed thinking what could have happened to my son? In the same way, he who takes the name of the Lord they become remarkable and extra-ordinary. (to be continued)

He who is interested in the name of the Lord, he alone knows the greatness of the Lord’s name. How will others know what the Name really is? What will each person understand? When one does “bhajan” (worship, adoration, remembrance of the

Lord), becomes immersed in it, repeats the Divine Name, then one is more deeply inclined towards the Divine Name. The points that comes in a saint’s and great soul’s speech, those extra-ordinary points will automatically become part of one’s experience. Saints have written about their different experiences at different times and places.

There was a lady, who said such amazing things about her experience of naam japa, which is not heard of even in talks by saints. She said that by repeating the Lord’s names, the body feels cool, and in the entire body one feels a cool fountain of water flowing, and experiences a form of sweetness and bliss. I have read in saint’s stories, but such description as experience by the lady, has not been mentioned else where. There are such transcendental supernatural things that saints and great souls have written. To what extent are these written? That which one experiences is difficult to describe in words. They themselves only know.

be benefited. All will be benefited and what to speak of you ? Your life will become blessed! There is great glories of the divine name of the Lord. Goswamiji Maharaj further elaborates -

Raam naam bar baran jug saavan bhaadav maas || (Maanas, Balakand 19)

First name of “Ram” was elaborated on, then the Mahamantra was described. Now there is description of the two alphabets. “Ra” and “Ma”. Those who are loving devotees of the Lord, they are like the best rice fields, and the love and devotion in the rainy season is the Lord Shri Raghunathji Maharaj. There is ample of rain in the rainy season. The fields become drenched and soaked. In Rajasthan if there is water in the fields then the grass dries up, but in the rice paddies there is water logging all the time. Even the fish are swimming around in the waters. Such “saalike” rice is delicious. The superior the quality of rice, that much more water it needs. They need water all the time. “Ra” and “Ma” these two are superior sounds. Similarly the rainy season of the month of “Shraavan” (July-August) and “bhaadrapad” (third-fourth lunar months). For a great devotee, rain in the form of the Name of the Lord “Ram” continues to pour continuously.

Further ahead Goswamiji Maharaj says -

Aakhar madhur manohar dou |Barana bilochan jan jiya jou (manas,

baalkaand 20/1) These two sounds are sweet and

delightful. By the word “madhur” it means having the taste of ecstacy. By “manohar” it means that the mind is drawn towards it. He who has done the “japa” of “Ram”, they know, others do cannot know. It is an extraordinary thing that while doing “Ram Ram” there is sweetness that is born within. Just like when there is delicious milk and if you take grind up some sugar and blend it in, then how very sweet it appears. Sweeter than that is from the taste of “Ram naam” when one becomes engaged in Ram Naam, there is extraordinary relish that one gets. Similarly these two sounds “Ra” and “Ma” are sweet and magnetic. “baran bilochan jan jiye jaau” - these two sounds are the two eyes of the letters of the alphabet “varnamala” . There are known to be two eyes in the body. Just as a man is blind without eyes, similarly without the name of “Ram” even the letters of the alphabet “varnamala” are blind.

By doing japa, one experiences much extra-ordinariness. Of the six lotuses there is one that is “nabhikamal” lotus, in its petals is the name of the Lord, those two uou will be able to see. Just as with the eyes you gain

www.swamiramsukhdasji.net

Page 27: Shri Hari ॥ - Swami Web viewWhen one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she

knowledge of the external world, similarly with “naam japa” one gains the knowledge of many scriptures. Those saints who have not studied anything, have not read the scriptures, even in their speech the truth from the Vedas comes out. As is written in the Vedas, such points comes out from their speech. How did they gain the knowledge of the Vedas? By the divine Name “Ram”. The name “Ram” is the eyes of all letters. One begins to see with the eyes, and many amazing things one begins to see.

ShriRamdasji and Shri Laldasji Maharaj were both friends. I have heard about their friendship. One day one older woman (mother) was going somewhere carrying food, then both said to each other. The food that the mother is bringing will have “Rabdi” (sweet milk desert) in it, a green leaf vegetable and these other items. When they looked within, that was exactly what she had brought. In this manner, if you look from a worldly perspective, then too much extra-ordinary qualities one develops. While doing “bhajan” (worship, adoration, remembrance) in solitude and silent, he experiences that in some place some things are being said. These talks were not being revealed by the saints. One develops these extra-ordinary powers to get to know these things and they used to say to become silent, not to reveal these to people. One begins to see at night in the dark - such supernatural things take

place, and these are also ordinary enchantments. The more extra-ordinary points are that with Naam Japa, one attains knowledge of Truth. That which is the form of the Lord, is the form of the Self, that becomes the experience of all. Is this an ordinary thing? There is no greatness in worldly enchantment.

There is infinite and never-ending power in “Ram” naam. Therefore Goswamiji Maharaj says - “baran bilochan jan jye jou” - it is the eyes to know the hearts of the devotees.

Ram Naam is most dear to Tulsidas -

Sumirat sulabh sab kaahu | Lok laahu paralok nibaahu || Kahat sunat sumirat suthi neeke | Raam lakhan sam priya Tulasi ke || (Manas, Baalkand 20/2, 3)

In saying, listening and contemplating the name of the Lord is most pleasing and sweet. Both Ram and Lakshman were equally dear to Tulasidasji. In saying “Ram, Ram Ram ..” there is great joy and in hearing “Ram Ram Ram” also there is great joy. Such is the great and melodious sound of the two letters in the Lord’s name. Goswamiji Maharaj says some extra-ordinary things, as if he has lost all consciousness. What is the Lord’s name like? The listeners

are given such examples by which they can easily understand. In the Shri Ramcharitramanas, there are four dialogs in episodes “sanvads” 1. With Parvatiji and Lord Shankar 2) Yagyavalkji and Bhardvajji 3. Kagbhushnadiji and Garudji and 4. Saints and Goswamiji Maharaj. In these various dialogs, Goswamiji Maharaj talks about the glories of the Lord’s name and at which time he says that these two letter are so charming and loving, just like Ram and Lakshma are dear to Tulasi. At the end of Ramcharitramanas, an extra-ordinary point is shared about the Raghu dynasty and Lord Ram’s Name -

Kaamihi naari piyaari jimi lobhihi priya jimi daam |

Timis raghunaath niranter priya laagahu mohi Ram (Manas, Utterkaand 130 Kha)

Both examples are such, that every man will be able to relate to and understand and which every man is attracted towards. If you want to understand the principles then the example given should be such that is in every man’s experience. But here Goswamiji Maharaj says - “Ram lakhan sam priya Tulasi ke” - that every man knows that how dear Ram and Lakshman are to Tulasi? If Ram-Lakshman are also dear to the devotee, then one must understand that name of Ram is so

www.swamiramsukhdasji.net

Page 30: Shri Hari ॥ - Swami Web viewWhen one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she

very dear! Being a poet of such a high stature, what a striking example he gives. Now how are we to understand how dear the name of Lord Ram is to Tulasi? Then is says - “Kaamihi naari piya” jimi lobhihi priya jimi daam” - just as a lecherous man finds a woman so gorgeous and just as a greedy man finds money so exquisite, similarly the name of Ram is most attractive and dear to me. “Timi Raghunaath niranter priya laagahu mohi Ram” - Goswamiji Maharaj has given two names - “Kaamihi naari piyaari jimi” - in that is wrote “Raghunaath” and in “Lobhihi priya jimi daam” - in that he wrote the name of “Ram”. Just as a lecherous man loves beautiful women and a greedy man loves money. A greedy man does not look towards beauty, he is engrossed in counting money. He loves to count money. The lord of the Raghu dynasty, Maharaj Shri Ram is seated on the throne, such a sight and form of the Lord and the name of the Lord “Ram” - both these are dear to him, in other words - the form of the Lord and the Name of the Lord are both dear to him.

One poet said - Suvaran ko dhoondhat phirat kavi

– all three of them look for treasure of their

choice. An amorous person searches for beauty, a thief searches for gold. “charan dharat dhadakat hiyo” - a poet too when is steps into (embraces) the real meaning of a prose, his heart beats. He is wondrous about the beauty of the verses. Even an amorous and a thief are fearful while secretly stepping in (sneaking in), their heart beats, wondering whether someone may see them. “nek na bhaavat shor” - neither a poet, nor an amorous, nor a thief like a lot of hullabaloo. All three are secretly and mutely searching for their gold (treasure of their choice).

“Kaamihi naari piyaari jimi” - the Lord’s (Shri Raghunathji Maharaj’s) form has been taken in this example and “lobhihi priya jimi daam” - and like a greedy man, may the Lord’s name appear dear to me. A miserly and greedy man does not care for beauty, rather only finds large quantity of bills dear to him. If you place a one rupee crisp and clean bill (note) on a satin pillow and you take a five or ten rupee note that is tattered, torn, and filthy and ask the miser to pick one, he will not take the beautiful, crisp rupee bill placed on satin pillow. He will take the ten rupee note only, even though old, tattered and shredded to pieces. The one rupee bill is splendid looking, but what will he do? He only looks at the numbers, the count, the math, that this is a one rupee and this one is a ten rupee. Similarly Goswamiji

Page 32: Shri Hari ॥ - Swami Web viewWhen one praises someone’s wife, then one says - she is pure and chaste. But when she has the love of the Divine Name of the Lord in their heart, she

says, may the beauty of the divine form of Ramji appear dear and may the count (number of times repeated) of the divine name continue to increase. “jimi prati lab lobh adhikaayi” - let the Divine name be repeated like a greedy man.

The reason for giving these two examples is that people are drawn to these two -

“maadhoji se milnaa kaise hoye|sabal bairi base ghat bheetar kanak kaamini

doye ||”

Firstly they are drawn to women and secondly to accumulation of money. Other than these two, what to do? In place of the beauty of the world, place the beautiful form of Shri Raghunath ji (Lord) and instead of counting money, replace with the Lord’s name. In this way, both will be satisfied, the Lord’s beautiful form and the counting of the Lord’s Divine Name. On saying this much too, there is dissatisfaction. Then he says - “Timi raghunaath niranter priya laagahu mohi Ram” - If it does not happen constantly then mistake will continue. Worldly wealth is dear and also is pleasing, but when inquiry comes, there is black money hoarded, the police are coming, then the desire in the mind is that if I did not have that black (money earned improperly without paying taxes) money, then it would be nice.

Though being greedy for money, he does not wish for it. Similarly he does not desire sense pleasures and enjoyments at all times. Goswamiji has been very careful in sharing illustrations that none of this will come with you. Even though the passionate and the greedy like beauty and counting of money, but even in their liking there is sometimes a change of heart. But in the dearness of our Lord’s (Raghunathji) form and name there is never any change or difference.

Tajjpastadarthbhaavanam - Let there is repetition of the Lords Name (Japa) and let there be constant meditation on the Lord’s divine form. Where the mind is drawn there become situated in the Divine Name of the Lord “Ram”, thereafter on its own repetition “Ram Ram” will take place. “Rom rom ucharanda hai” then you do not have to do anything. “You do not have to take the name of “Ram”. You become so drawn to it that even on trying to leave it, it does not go away. In Bengal, there was a great loving devotee of the Lord, named Chaitanya Maharprabhu. A devotee of his used to constantly repeat “Hare Krishna… “, continuously, without any stop, he kept doing “japa”. Someone told Chaitanya Mahaprabhu - Maharaj! This man is repeating the Lord’s name even when he is in the toilet. When the man was asked

about this, he replied that it is simply happening. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu called him and said – “hence forth be attentive and alert! Do not repeat the Lord’s name” Now what was he to do? The man began to hold his tongue while in the toilet. The other aspirants again complained about his conduct. Mahaprabhu, asked him “what are you doing?” to which he replied - “Maharaj, what am I to do? The tongue simply does not listen. But because you have said so, to follow through with your command, I hold on to the tongue” Then he said - “For you there is no sin to repeat the name of the Lord, in any state. But do not hold your tongue. He who takes delight in the Lord’s name in this way, he alone knows that there is such extra-ordinariness in the Name, it is so divine ! He who constantly repeats the Lord’s name day and night, for him the “japa” goes on all the time. There is a similar incident with Arjuna. While Arjuna used to sleep, he would be calling out ‘Krishna, Krishna”. Therefore, once when Arjuna was sleeping, Naradji, Shankarji, Brahmaji all came. Many great saint gathered there. Even God Himself came there. In every pour of Arjuna, the name of the Lord “Krishna Krishna” was oozing out. “Sahaj naam sivarandaa hai” not just by the mouth, but from every pour the Lord’s divine name was being heard.

In a village named Barahaj near Gorakhpur there lived a Parahamsa Maharaj. His disciple’s name was Shri Raghavdasji. He was called by the name of Gandhi of Uttarpradesh. If someone touched the body of the Parahamsa then they would hear the sound of “Om”. One time a strong man named Ramamurtiji came to meet him. Japa was taking place from the toes of Parahamsa Baba. He told the strong man - stop these toes from moving; but he was unable to make them still. Then he said, “however much of strength you have, there is much more strength then that in the baba’s toe. “ There is such extra-ordinary powers in the Divine Name. That radiance, that power manifests in front of those who repeat the Lord’s name with love and reverence. What can others know about this!

“Lok laahu parlok nibhaahu” - the name of “Ram” is useful in all places in this world and the world beyond. Therefore Goswamiji says - “Mein to maa aru baap daau aakhar.” “Ra” and “Ma” - are my mother and father. There is no one else whatsoever, in this world who will protect you, take care of you, will see to your well-being like your father and mother. Goswamiji says, for my sustenance and protection I have both the letters of my mother and father with me Ra and Ma-

God becomes pleased with those mothers and fathers who who are devotees of the Lord. With the name of “Ram” one can attain the Lord, one can behold the Lord.

Even if “kasturi” (the musk of a deer), is made to promise not to spread it’s fragrance, then will she be able to stop? The scent will surely spread. Similarly, if someone even silently does “bhajan” and if no one comes to know, then too Maharaj, it will be revealed. It’s unique and extra-ordinary qualities will be seen. It will have an effect on the people; because God’s name is so very transcendental, so extra-ordinary, that not just this world, but the world beyond will also be benefited. A child from an ordinary household who was not regarded as anyone special previously, can become an ascetic. And further, if he becomes immersed in “bhajan” worship, adoration of God then he can become a great saint, a great soul. Many miraculous things can happen through him. What is the point here? This is the glories of the divine name of the Lord.
