The encounter between Lisetta Carmi and Master Babaji marks the beginning of her third life. In 1979, at the Master’s suggestion, she opened an Ashram in Cisternino, in Apulia, a Charitable Trust recognized by the Italian Government with the name Fondazione Bhole Bhaba. During her nineteen years of activity at the Ashram, Lisetta Carmi, Janki Rani, was dedicated to spreading the teachings of Babaji, attracting many people from all over the world.

«Babaji Herakhan Baba, Mahavatar of the Himalaya lived on this earth from 1970 until 1984, in his Ashram in Herakhan. He became incarnate in the body of a beautiful young boy after his previous incarnation had left his physical body at an old age, in 1922, in a flash of light, at the confluence of two sacred rivers in the presence of a small group of Indian devotees and disciples. At the time, Herakhan Baba had said he would be coming back on the earth in 1970 for the good of mankind, to bring human beings his message of Truth, Simplicity and Love with the mantra: “Om Namah Shivaya.” In this new incarnation, for the first time Babaji summoned devotees and disciples from the West. Babaji Herakhan Baba is the Guru of the gurus, “he who comes”, whom every human being would wish to encounter to purify their innermost self and find the truth of their being. All of us who lived with Him received the greatest blessing, which is to be able to go beyond self and mine in order to look into one’s inner being with complete sincerity and transcend the limits of one’s personality.»

Lisetta Carmi, concert player and piano teacher has been working as a freelance photographer since 1960. In 1964 she conducted with the FILP-CGIL dockers an in-depth research on the harbor of Genoa: the result was an exhibition which made its way around Italy, arriving in the Soviet Union. In 1965 she started photographing transvestites, a work which culminated in the book Travestiti with a text by Elvio Fachinelli (1972). She worked on several projects including one on the Paris Underground for which she was awarded the prize “Cultura nella fotografia.” Her books include Acque di Sicilia with a text by Leonardo Sciascia. In 1966 she was awarded the European NIEPCE prize for her photographs of Ezra Pound. She abandoned photography in the ’80s to dedicate herself to the creation and management of the Spiritual Centre in Cisternino, as the master Babki Mahavatar of the Himalaya wished. In 1997 she began her collaboration with Paolo Ferrari and the Centro Studi Assenza in Milan directed by him.
