Through this platform of RYLA, we got opportunities to learn, explore our talents and have fun. Staying a night in their facility
in itself is a lot of fun and took us back to the good old school days when we use to go on school-organised outstation trips. It is a
great opportunity for all of us to be a part of it and learn & have fun. RYLA 2010 comprised of various events ranging from
cultural to educational and spiritual. The two-day extravaganza was an awesome experience for more than 150 Rotaractors ,
Interactors and Rotarians who attended.

From The DRR’s Desk
Dear Friends,
Warm Rotaract Greeting to all of you. Wish you and your family a very happy and
prosperous New Year.
December has truly been an eventful month for our district. First we all participated
in Walk for Blood organized by Rotary Blood bank and worked selflessly in
executing the event for the noble cause.
Then we participated in huge numbers in RYLA on 25th and 26th December. I would
like to thank our Rotarians to organize RYLA for us every year. Special thanks to all
the host club – Rotary club of Sonepat Midtown who organized such an amazing
event for us with best of the speakers , food and entertainment. RYLA this year was
very special as we observed bonding of love, care and affection between the
interactors and rotaractors. We all together really made a difference . I want to thank
and acknowledge all the rotaractors who actively participated in RYLA. Rtr.
Himanshu from Delhi Akash and Rtr. Nishtha from SGGSCC college went a step
ahead and took complete responsibility of managing the event and the participants.
We need more leaders like these in our district who take initiatives and work
selflessly for the society.
ROTASIA , a multi district event being organized by District 3131 is our next
agenda. 22 rotaractors from our district are participating in ROTASIA this year.
Participation in Multi-district events like these is not seen in past few years. We wish
to interact with rotaractors from whole of South-east Asia and share our views ,
projects with them. We just want to say that we are coming back with BANG
Best of Luck!!

EDITORIAL
“ Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give! …”
Warm Rotaract greetings to all !!!!
It’s a brand new year with new possibilities and new
adventures. The month saw a wonderfully managed
RYLA , hosted by Rotary Club of Sonepat Midtown
where Rtr.Nishtha from RC SGGSCC and Rtr.Himanshu
from RC Delhi Akash did us proud by winning accolades.
After a very successful RYLA , it is now time for the
mega event of the year. Yes, ROTASIA 2011 is finally
here. It is time for some fun in the sun at Goa. Many
rotaractors from our district are participating in this
Rotasia this time around. This is a great opportunity for all
of us to learn more about Rotaractors all over the world.
Despite Delhi’s chilly weather, its encouraging to see all
of you working hard to help others. Truly “Service Above
Self” personified. Cheers to you guys for making the
Rotaract movement a success.!!!
Hope we can work together in this new year 2011 to
achieve even more success in our endeavours. Take care!!
With best wishes,

Rotary names attorney John Hewko as its new top executive
Rotary International News -- 12 January 2011
Rotary International has named John Hewko, an attorney with
extensive international experience in both the private and public
sectors, to be the global humanitarian service organization’s new
top executive, serving as its general secretary.
In this position, Hewko will manage more than 600 employees of Rotary
International and its charitable arm, The Rotary Foundation of Rotary
International. Headquartered in Evanston, Illinois, USA, with regional
offices in seven countries, Rotary’s Secretariat supports the activities of
more than 33,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and geographical
areas, with a combined membership of 1.2 million men and women. The
Rotary Foundation annually distributes over $180 million to fund a variety
of educational programs and humanitarian projects throughout the
world.
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL NEWS
“I am delighted to be joining Rotary and honored to be able
to participate in the organization’s mission to promote
world peace and understanding by addressing some of the
root causes of conflict, such as poverty, hunger, disease,
illiteracy, and the global water and sanitation crisis,”
Hewko said. “Rotary’s global membership of 1.2 million
business and professional leaders -- supported by a
dedicated, professional staff -- is a powerful resource that
is making a meaningful global and grassroots contribution
to that goal. Just look at what Rotary already has
accomplished in the area of polio prevention and
eradication.”
Historic Moments -- RI themes
Each January, as Rotary district governors-elect convene at the International Assembly for training and fellowship, they can be
certain of two things: a lot of take-home reading and the announcement of a new RI theme.
The tradition of crafting a theme is credited to 1949-50 RI President Percy C. Hodgson, who outlined a list of four objectives for his term in office. Among them were the better application of the principles of vocational service and dedication to world understanding and peace through international service programs.
Though Hodgson's 83-word proclamation ran substantially longer than today's shorter, punchier themes, Rotarians' desire to celebrate and support their president's annual program of service has remained the same. Other early themes include Rotary Is Hope in Action (Joaquin Serratosa Cibils, 1953-54), Kindle the Spark Within (Nitish C. Laharry, 1962-63), and Good Will Begins with You (Ernst G. Breitholtz, 1971-72).
In the decades that followed, RI presidents introduced theme logos, lapel pins, ties, and scarves. Theme ties were introduced in the 1990s, and are now given out yearly. Many have incorporated the theme for the year. The first scarves showing the RI theme were designed by 1998-99 RI President James L. Lacy and his wife, Claudine, Follow Your Rotary Dream .

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they’re sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true "partners in service" and key members of the family of Rotary. Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.
Membership starts with you! Invite friends, family and co-workers to become members of Rotaract
