Research Media piracy includes the illegal downloading of music,

movies, and software.

The two primary organizations that monitor the downloading of music and movies are the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

Research There can be serious legal and financial consequences to

illegal downloading. These can include: up to five years in jail, fines and charges

of up to $150,000 per file, and any other charges that might be brought up in court .

Research When software is pirated, consumers, software developers,

and resellers are harmed

Piracy is a form of theft and robs people of their works.
