  • Founded in 2007, Shooting Touch, Inc. harnesses the power of basketball to improve the lives of youth in the areas of health, education, and character around the world.

    In Boston, Shooting Touch has established a year-round presence through programs that provide youth with opportunities for development, both on and off the court.2,000 youth in Rwanda.

  • Internationally, The Shooting Touch Sabbatical Program, known as the Basketball Peace Corps provides the opportunity for gifted college graduates to work in Rwanda for one year.

    There, they provide places to play by constructing courts, and train local coaches and youths in both basketball and our off-court curriculum of gender equality, health and fitness, disease prevention (HIV/AIDS & Malaria), the importance of education and leadership skills.

    As a result Shooting Touch has reached over 2,000 youth in Rwanda.

    THE IMPACT

    WE HAVE

  • Every 4 years, NCAA athletic teams are allowed to go on a training trip, allowed to hold practices, and bond as a team. With the Shooting Touch Train & Serve Program, college basketball teams can now take their trip to the next level, by combining both training, practice and service, all while traveling through the beautiful and resilient country of Rwanda.

    PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • t Play in (2) friendly matches against Rwandas National t Basketball League - FERWABA. t Coach your own regional youth basketball tournament. t Engage in (4) full days of team practice. t Help paint and build a youth basketball court. t Go on a safari to Akagera National Park and Lake Kivu. t Distribute athletic wear to kids in need, including shoes, balls

    and official team jerseys.

    TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

  • Day 1 - Arrive in Kigali, Rwanda.

    Day 2 - Arrive in Kigali, catch up on jet lag, and explore the city. Possible things to do include going for a bike tour of the city, visiting the art markets, or climbing Mt. Kigali.

    Day 3 - Explore the Genocide Memorial Museum in the morning, followed by a tour of Camp Kigali. In the evening, play in a friendly match vs. a team from Rwandas National Leauge, FERWABA, in Peace Stadium, Stade Amahoro.

    Day 4 - Trek the Eastern Province and hold your first practice at Shooting Touchs court in Nyamirama. Spend the night in the dormitories of Partners in Health, in Rwinkwavu.

    Day 5 - Hold a basketball clinic, as well as another open practice, at the Shooting Touch Court at the Kayonza Youth Friendly Center

    Day 6 - Get your hands dirty and paint the court you sponsored with your universitys logo, distribute basketballs, shoes and team jerseys. Put on a basketball clinic and hold another open practice.

    ITINERARY

  • Day 7 - Hold a basketball clinic and open practice, followed by a viewing night and traditional drum and dance performance in Rwinkwavu.

    Day 8 - Referee and volunteer coach in a huge, province-wide tournament. In between games, you will be able to have a intra-squad scrimmage.

    Day 9 - See wildlife of Rwanda during a safari in the famous Akagera National Park. Over 8,000 large mammals roam this park. Head back to Kigali in the evening.

    Day 10 - Depart for Lake Kivu in the early morning for a boat ride to one of the islands. (--or--) Depart for Nyungwe National Forest in the early morning. Enjoy a monkey spotting hike, or a rainforest hike through the expansive tea fields.

    Day 11 - Depart in the afternoon for one last match with a FERWABA team.

    Day 12 - Depart for home from Kigali International Airport.

    ITINERARY

  • Court Sponsorship: Teams will fundraise throughout the year, and will sponsor a court construction, costing $5,000. In addition, teams can hold shoe and basketball collection drives to distribute during their court dedication ceremony.

    Per person: Round-trip airfare, meals, lodging, vaccinations and medications, and all parts of program is estimated at $2,035 per participant. An additional $430 is required as a team for all on-ground transport while there. A group coordinator, provided by Shooting Touch, will be accompanying the team the whole time, and will assist in every part of the trip.

    Total Cost: Including,12 players, 2 coaches/chaperones, and 1 group coordinator = $35,955
