1  Installation Issues

1.1 When installing the software …When installing the software I get the following error message displayed.

How can I resolve this?

Answer - This is not actually an error, but a Notice. It is caused by theinstallation trying to overwrite a file currently in use by windows. Try closing any open applications and selecting ‘Retry’. If the notice persists it is anindication that the file is a system file. Select cancel and continue theinstallation. At the end of the installation, re-boot your machine. Windowswill write the file to the appropriate place when re-starting.

2  Runtime Issues

2.1 When starting FDA2…When starting FDA2 for the first time I get the following dialogue.

I enter some information in the Location field but get an error and thesoftware will not start

Answer- This is due to the user having restricted permissions. The user must have at least ‘Power User’ rights. However, the registry merge file -fda_register_hq.reg – can solve this issue and bypass this screen if that does not fix the issue.

2.2 After entering the registration information…After entering the registration information I am seeing a login screen. Whatare the username/password I should use?

Answer- Username and password are both ‘admin’ (without the quotes)

2.3 After logging in…After logging in I get the following error message, and the softwareterminates. What can I do?

Answer- Again this is due to the user having restricted permissions. Theuser must have at least ‘Power User’ rights.

2.4 When I start the software …When I start the software I see a message saying it is a demonstrationversion of the software, but I have registered with Lloyd's Register/I amusing an LR build machine. Why is this?

Answer- The software uses a security dll to detect if the software isregistered/an LR build machine, thus providing full functionality. If an older version of the dll is being used it will report back that the software is not registered. Upgrade to the new version of the security dll by running the provided setup – ‘LR_Security setup v1.0.0.2.exe’.

2.5 I have logged in…I have logged in and see the following error message (in fact it appearstwice!)

This is followed by another error message as below.

What do they mean?

Answer- The first message (which appears twice) is a warning that the Oleserver required to perform some GUI activities throughout the software hasfailed to initialise or store its values in the registry. Again this is due to theuser having restricted permissions. Running the registry merge file -FDA_OLE2.reg – can solve this issue.

click the open button I get the following Dialogue and I know that there areprojects available. Why are they not showing?

Answer-  The software cannot read from compressed drives/directories.Uncompress any directories containing FDA projects and the software will see them.

2.7 I have opened a project and…I have opened a project and am in the ‘Project Manager’. However when Iclick on any of the steps NOTHING happens. Also when I try to open the‘Stiffener’ or ‘End Connection’ databases I get the following error message. How can I resolve this?

Answer- This is due to one of the controls used in the software(CSText32.ocx) not being Windows XP SP2 compatible. Close FDA and run the provided setup program – ‘FDAXPSP2_Setup.exe’. Restart the

software and the wizards will now be available.

2.8 When I try to run…When I try to run the main ‘Short Term & Long Term Fatigue Computation’solver, I get the following error messages. Why will it not run?

Answer- The solver will only accept a path to the project up to a maximumof 128 characters. Shorten the project directory to 15 characters or less. Thesolver should now run properly. Alternatively store your ‘RootFDA’ directory in the root of the C drive, rather than the suggested ‘C:\ProgramFiles\Lloyd's Register of Shipping\ShipRight FDA\RootFDA

When the solver is instantiated the spaces in the path name areconverted to ‘%20’ so any spaces in a path actually count as 3 characters)
