The accident occurred around 11.45am,when MV Tiger Spring was movingsouthward down the Hooghly after

loading containers from KDS.

Moreover, due to heavy deposits of slit

over the years , the western channelof the hooghly has became unfit fornavigation-leaving just the easternchannel open for ship movement.

According to him, MV Tiger Springsuffered some damage. The hull ofMV Green Valley was also

punctured. "Initially, some waterentered through this hole but thiswas controlled. The ship has been

anchored close by till an inspectionis made," Sahay said.

channel. It is common for ships topass 100-200 feet of each otheralong this part of the Hooghly. Tillthe inquiry is complete, it would not

Dead blue Whale found at cityport (23-11-10)

A 12-foot blue whale was found deadin the waters outside chennaiharbour on Monday morning,

following which it was towed to theharbour by the chennai port trustworkers.

The whale was killed when it comeinto contact with the rotatingblades of the propeller.

Official are unsure about how to

dispose the carcass of the blue

tonnes of dead weight. the whale seems to be weighing

towing the whale out over 40 nauticalmiles into deeper waters and sinkingit using weights. Since even lifting bycrane is a problem, a land burial

would be preffered.
