Help us to be deeply connected with the world around us and strengthen us to proclaim the good news in word and deed in this community, for the glory and for the growth of your kingdom. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

The Vicar’s VibeHappy Father’s Day! For those Dads who love and care for their families, and for those children who will fondly remember their dad today, we give thanks.

My household, having no father, have turned their collective backs on Father’s Day. I wonder how many others also feel sorrow on this day, which has been taken over to a certain degree as a celebration of DIY tools and BBQ gadgets?

What about the families whose Dads were killed in wars or through ill health? The left behind families when their fathers walked out on them? The families who cower in fear of Dad and his drunken bashings? The families overlooked due to mental illness, divorce or over work? That’s what can make families wince at a celebration of fatherhood, but what about those who missed out on being a father at all? Those men who, for so many reasons, never started a family, and grieve for what might have been?

We pray for God’s healing love to be given to those families and to those men.

A prayer for Father’s DayCome Father God:come as an enabling, strengthening force, come as tough loveto let us go.

Come Mother God:come as an enfolding nurturing presence, come as steadfast loveto hold us.

Come Parent God:come as friend and comforterhealing our wounds, walking our way.

Come as a wounded healerto makes us whole. John Harvey.

May God continue to bless you and all those for whom you pray. Elizabeth
