INDUCTION OF ELDERS – PASTOR SEETHOR CHEE KEEN

I am thankful that God has raised Pastor Seethor Chee Keen and Brother Frederick Chew to be elders of Gospel Light. Their official induction will be on 19 November, marking our 30th anniversary with a timely addition to our present team of elders comprising Pastor Paul Choo, Pastor Victor Yeo, Pastor Muk Kin Son, Elder Leong Lick Tien, and myself. Pastor Chee Keen and Brother Frederick are godly men who meet the qualifications for eldership as laid out in 1 Timothy 3. I am confident that the Lord has raised them up to strengthen the overall leadership of Gospel Light for His glory. I thereby urge you to pray for them and their families as they step up to serve the Lord as elders. To help you know them a little better, I've asked Pastor Chee Keen to share about himself this week (Brother Frederick will be writing next week).

Sixteen years ago when I was visiting Gospel Light Christian Church, I saw the humility of our Founding Pastor, who publicly committed himself to a greater movement of the Gospel. Then, the Lord led me to join this church. Soon thereafter I came on staff. Today, I continue to witness the same spirit of humility and commitment of our Senior Pastor to the advance of the Gospel. This excites and motivates me to be a member and staff of our church. This is the passion I share.

I believe the Gospel is the power of God to salvation. I believe this because Jesus still impacts and changes lives today. Once, my son asked me, “How do you know God is real?” I replied, “I know God is real because I wouldn’t be the person, the husband, and father I ought to be apart from Jesus.” I thank God for His mercy and grace I experience continually with my wife, Shiying, and my two sons, Noah and Micah.

My gift and calling is to the ministry of the Word. It excites me to minister God’s Word and see the Holy Spirit make Christ real in people’s lives. I’ve found it a spiritual adventure all these years to witness God’s work in the mission fields of China, in the Chinese congregation in Singapore, and now through the Bible Study ministry in Punggol. Another area I’m deeply burdened for is our Life-on-Life Missional Discipleship. I look forward to see the Gospel moving forward in and through our church through these discipleship journeys.

I am humbled to be serving in Gospel Light’s Board of Elders. It is a privilege and responsibility to join our godly leaders to set the spiritual direction of our church in Punggol and beyond. Please pray for me and my family to be following Jesus faithfully so that we can be fruitful for God.
