Welcome to the 2012 Shimano Catalogue. Fishing habits have changed massively over recent years, with more anglers now choosing to sh for a certain species, often using just one or two methods.

As one of the Worlds leading shing tackle manufacturers, with top consultants throughout Europe, Shimano is in a strong position to spot the latest trends and develop tackle speci cally to meet the demands of modern anglers like yourself. This is very noticeable when looking at our rod range, with introductions and developments in many areas.

An example of this is the Yasei Red rod range. This new range follows on from the huge success of the original Yasei rods launched last year and enables anglers on a tighter budget to own high quality rods designed for the very latest predator shing techniques. Other examples include the Purist, Commercial, and Tribal Carp rod ranges which were originally designed for anglers in the UK, but are now being used by anglers throughout Europe. You will also notice that many rod graphics have been standardized, and in many instances now match the reels of their same name. This enables you to choose rod and reel combinations which compliment each other both visually and in performance.

The use of HPC (High Pressure Carbon) technology has also been more widely used this year and can now be found on many of our new mid priced rods. This exclusive technology makes a noticeable di erence to rod performance and provides additional strength with increased lightness and better responsiveness.

Our reel range has also seen many changes, the highlights of which are the EFTTEX award winning Aero Technium MGS XS-B and the long anticipated launch of the new Big Baitrunner.

The Aero Technium MgS is one of the most visually stunning reels in the World and it has the performance to match. Featuring Shimanos Super Slow Oscillation, which produces almost parallel line lay for the ultimate casting performance, this remarkable reel is amazing. When winding the handle the spool moves so slowly it appears almost stationary.

The new Big Baitrunner is also a show stopper. The original reel was launched over 15 years ago and has legendary status among carp anglers. In fact it started the trend for big pit type reels. The new version is cooler, sleeker, has more features, and performs superbly. It also comes in two sizes, with the compact medium sized version being the perfect in-between size for anglers not requiring the ultimate distance casting larger model.

You will also see new mono and braided lines in our range. These have also been developed for modern shing techniques and the new Power Pro Super 8 Slick won Best New Braided Line at the EFTTEX trade show earlier this year, beating the best the World had to o er. New monos include Aero Reel Line which o ers great value for money, Ultegra Invisitec with low visibility performance, Aspire Silk Shock for outstanding strength, and nally Aspire Fluorocarbon which is one of the most user friendly lines of its type.

Finally, you will notice that this years catalogue is slightly di erent to previous years. For the rst time we have placed the products in groups depending on the use (Spinning, Coarse, Specimen and Saltwater). It makes perfect sense to us that if we are designing products for speci c uses, the catalogue should follow the same principle. I hope you enjoy it.

NO torque and spineless construction eliminates sideway vibrations, which causes friction and inaccuracy while casting.


SUPER 8 SLICKPowerPro Super 8 Slick is a super soft 8 carrier braided line. The combination of the 8 carrier diamond braid construction with PowerPro Enhanced Body Technology resulted in a braided line which is ultra round, Smooth as silk and slick as a mono line. Powerpro Super 8 Slick is more quiet and smooth resulting in greater casting distances.

BARRIER PACKShimano Barrier Pack seals the line in a humidity controlled environment as soon as it is produced and also prevents damage by UV light. The result is line that is both as fresh as possible, with better strength and performance compared to line stored in a traditional clear PVC boxes.

FREE LINE CAMPAIGNShimano has exceptionally high brand awareness throughout Europe. The new reel added value campaign is designed to add more value to Shimano reels and to also give anglers the opportunity of using our fantastic mono lines on their new reels.

BIOMASTER FBThe Biomaster is a technically improved version, which will earn the same outstanding reputation. Running incredible smooth even under heavy loads is made possible with the new X-SHIP system. As we tend to sh heavier with smaller reels, the drive gear material changed to ultra strong and light aluminum as well as the body material into aluminum to cope even with heavy duty shing conditions.

The lightweight foldable screw in aluminum handle is positioned straight into the drive gear, eliminating any play while turning the handle. The new Biomaster is the perfect reel to use in both freshwater and saltwater conditions from light sensitive to heavy duty shing.

CI4: CI4 is a material created by the interfusion of carbon and polyamide. Initially developed

by our cycling division for the Dura Ace brace bracket, a agship technology which

has now made the transition into the bodies of shing reels. The upshot is a reel whose

precision inner workings are housed within a protective shell with all the performance

advantages of metal but weighing less and therefore reducing arm fatigue whilst

increasing feel and balance through the rod.

Featuring 4 shielded stainless steel ball bearings and a roller bearing, the Exage FC uses a multi-disk front drag system for smooth progressive performance, which inspires con dence when playing hard ghting sh. For optimum casting performance the Cold Forged Aluminium Spool has AR-C line management and Varispeed line lay which prevents ne mono and braid from bedding in under pressure. For 2012 the FC family has been expanded with a 6000 & 10.000 size which will be the perfect sized for heavy duty spinning, fresh water trolling and salt water bottom shing.

The superb design of the Catana FB features two stainless steel ball bearings and a roller bearing, providing smoothness usually found on much more expensive reels. A strong lightweight aluminium spool comes as standard making the Catana FB ideal for both mono and braided lines. This model is an excellent all round reel that can be used for a wide range of styles and features Dyna-Balance for exceptional smoothness and performance and Super Stopper II for instant hook setting and assured sh-playing. Without doubt the Catana FB is the outstanding reel in its price class.

ALIVIO FCThe moment anglers lay their hands on this 2012 catalogue there is a great chance that many of them have already got acquainted to this new P3 family member. From the outside it is easy to see that the new Alivio has received a fantastic facelift answering to the latest cosmetic trends in the reel world. Technical features now include the highly acclaimed AR-C spool which ensures a good line lay and more easy & accurate casting. We are proud

that a reel at this pricepoint includes a high quality Shimano roller bearing for a smooth performance. The sizes range

from 1000 4000 and includes a 3000S (shallow spool) size.

HYPERLOOP FBThere is only so much you can do with a fantastic selling Shimano reel at this pricepoint. Within Shimano we are therefore proud and happy that we managed to equip the Hyperloop FB with the AR-C spool. This means more comfort & less e ort resulting in greater shing pleasure for the novice anglers. The Hyperloop further features classical styling along with high-tech features such as Super Stopper and Varispeed line lay. By turning the handle you can immediately appreciate the quality of the gears, and vibration is almost eliminated by Shimanos Dyna Balance system. SUPERSTOPPER

Superb line lay is a Shimano reels hallmark. Fed by Power Roller, the Aero system lays close, parallel coils (Aero Wrap) so line builds evenly on the spool and exits cleanly with minimum friction for longer, more accurate casts.

By improving the internal friction e ciency Shimano succeeded to bring its line lay systems to perfection. Close parallel coils in combination with 2 speed oscillation ensure smoother and further casting.

The secret of long-term rotation

performance is to prevent any form of rust, corrosion or oxidisation of the bearings, which can cause a reduction in the reels performance over time. Shimano A-RB bearings are the answer to this and are tted as standard on most Shimano freshwater reels and on all Shimano saltwater models.

A spool design with a V-shape spool lip ensuring line to come of the reel in smaller loops for further and more accurate casting. The AR-C spool will minimize the risk for backlash.

12% lighter but equally as strong as current spool.

C14 is a material created by the interfusion of

carbon and polyamide. Initially developed by our cycling division for the Dura Ace brace bracket, a agship technology which has now made the transition into the bodies of shing reels. The upshot is a reel whose precision inner workings are housed within a protective shell with all the performance advantages of metal but weighing less and therefore reducing arm fatigue whilst increasing feel and balance through the rod.

These spools are cold forged from aluminium alloy. The cold forging process creates a

lightweight spool with increased structural strength and more resistance to abrasion and damage. See the full process on the next page.

Floating Shaft IIThe key friction area on most xed spool reels is where the spool drive shaft meets the pinion. Shimano designers have overcome this by reducing a large percentage of surface area contact and incorporating bearings on either side of the shaft. The resultant design leaves the shaft in a oating position, considerably improving e ciency and longevity.

The HD (High Durability) gear is a further improvement

of the famous Shimano 3D Gears. Applying a special new coating results in a much stronger and smoother running gear system. The out of the box shop feel will last much longer.

Hybrid Aluminium BodyThis combination of aluminium and XT7 Graphite retains maximum strength exactly where required.

HypergearThis precision-engineered main gear transmits more power from the handle to the rotor. Designed to exacting tolerances, it requires less e ort but returns more retrieve/playing torque with vastly reduced component wear. In fact, all reels o er a breathtaking 90.3% e ciency, which makes them not only feel great, but in years to come theyll still be quietly purring.

This feature enables you to directly lubricate

the inner workings of the reel without having to take it apart. A small oil-lubrication port can be found on each of the SR-System and S-System reels which, when removed, enables you to apply manufacturer approved lubricants to the inside mechanism.

The special design of the Shimano Power Roller signi cantly

reduces line twist during the retrieve and is a big advantage when using thin mono and braid.

Rigid Support DragThis innovative feature eliminates spool wobble, even at light drag settings. So no matter your drag setting, the spool will not wobble. The result is an incredibly smooth drag even at extremely light settings.

Roller BearingShimano is the only company to produce its own roller bearing. This piece of ne engineering has holds the main shaft and provides an excellent in nite anti-reverse performance. A Shimano roller bearing delivers a performance equivalent to 3-4 ball bearings.

Super Stopper is a one-way roller bearing that

eliminates backplay for solid hooksets.

Good quality line lay is the most important feature

for precise, long and accurate casting. Shimanos revolutionary Varispeed System consists of two specially designed gears. One is oval and the other a remarkable square shape!

Only a special computer program developed by Shimano has been able to make these to shapes t together perfectly the result is perfect parallel line lay and improved shing precision.

Waterproof DragWith the use of rubber gaskets, the drag is protected against intrusion of the elements, such as water or sand.

The pinion gear is supported on both ends by our S-ARB bearings. This

gives a super smooth operation,with anti-rust qualities. A larger diameter drive gear transmits more power to the pinion gear. The result is a smoother and higher powered retrieve.

STRADIC GTM-RCThe Stradic range includes the added bonus of a 1500

model alongside 2500, 3000 and 4000 versions. Features include XT-7 body and rotor, AR-C Spool, Diecast Gear, S two

piece bail plus a single anodised cold forged Aluminium spool and XT-7 spare. As with the TPCi4, the 3000 spool is a

shallow version with a line capacity equal to the 4000.

SUPER GTM-RCSuper GTM-RC is the fastest reel in the Shimano rear drag range with a retrieve ratio of between 5.8:1 (4000) and 6.0:1 (2500, 3000). This results in 20% more line retrieved for every turn of the handle making the GTM ideal for fast shing and repeated casting. To

provide the required smoothness at high speed the Super GTM is tted with 3 Shielded stainless steel ball bearings, a roller bearing and a double handle for optimum balance. To keep the reel in perfect condition an easy maintenance

The Calais DC has 4 di erent modes of cast, each with 8 stages to give a combination of 32 di erent patterns of braking capabilities to suit all shing conditions. Adjusting this braking system is also extemely easy; the angler only needs to set the mode to suit the style and shing condition before ne tuning with the external braking knob to get perfect casts every time.

It is for the excellent casting of metal lure like a spoon, spinner

jigs and metal jigs etc. Ideally used for distance under the conditions where tail wind is present. The biggest energy immediately after the cast is fully utilized to the extreme, with maximum rpm being raised.

In a head wind when the lure speed is severely a ected by

the wind, this mode cuts down backlash in this condition to give extended casting distance.

To get optimum accuracy to cast via

pitching method etc. It brakes throughout the cast and it is used for short but accurate distance casting. It is ideal for pitching to cover in snaggy conditions and especially useful when matched with a glass rod where the reel will compensate for accuracy over the glass rod.

For plus with multi or shifting points of centre of gravity and

where there is little vibration by the lure when it is in its trajectory state during the cast. This mode will stop overrun immediately after the cast via the circuit board to extend the casting distance.

CALAIS DCThese digital controlled reels have their own power station that creates electricity, which powers the magnetic brake system and therefore avoids over-runs. This reel also has a precise working drag with Dartanium washers for total control in extreme conditions. The oversized gear box ensures a better balance between rod & reel compared to conventional baitcasting reels.

CALAIS AWith 10 A-RB bearings and 1 Roller Bearing (thats the equivalent of 14 bearings); the Calais is as smooth as it looks. An easy access side plate allows the VBS system to be tuned quickly whilst the star drag with Dartanium drag washers means that clutch adjustment is just a turn away. Other features include Greaseless Spool Support Bearings that reduce friction on the cast, Cold Forged handle shank, Metal Series frame and Super Stopper.

CALCUTTA TE DCThe Calcutta DC incorporates a self energizing Digital Braking system which features 8 di erent pre-programmed braking patterns based on lure and casting types. With this technology, each of the braking patterns provides awesome control over the feeding of the line, by applying the ideal amount of braking force at critical intervals. As a result, it is possible to achieve long, accurate casts with consistent backlash control. The increased RPMs provided by the Digital Control System allow for longer casts. Dartainium DragThis drag material provides a wider range of drag settings, along with the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.

Digital ControlThe waterproof Digital Control System is self-energising: it recharges with each cast and needs no battery or power source. During the initial moments of the cast, the energy generated by the rotation of the spool is stored in the Digital Control circuit board and powers the Digital Braking System on subsequent casts.

Easy Access Side PlateOn reels with this feature, to access the VBS system, a set screw on the handle side of the reel is loosed and the opposite sideplate rotates open. From here the VBS weights can be adjusted without having to remove the spool or any other parts of the reel, for easy, worry free adjustment on the water.

By ipping a switch, the sideplate swivels downward, giving the

angler quick access to adjust VBS weights. The switch is located in a position that is easy to use, yet remains out of the way to prevent accidental opening. The sideplate is smooth for comfort when palming the reel.

Super FreeThe Super Free bearing-supported pinion gear system (SF) was designed to eliminate

friction on the spool shaft during the cast. In standard baitcasting reels, when the clutch bar is pressed down, the pinion gear is freed and can actually drag on the spool shaft, creating friction and limiting the length of the cast. With SF, the pinion gear is supported by a ball bearing, and when the clutch is disengaged the pinion gear and spool shaft are kept in precise alignment. The result is zero friction on the spool shaft for increased freespool.

VBSVBS uses centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid controlling the cast. The

individual brake weights, when turned on, are forced outward at the beginning of the cast when backlashes most often occur, causing friction that reduces the speed of the spool. Once the spool speed begins to slow, the pressure lessens, allowing the spool to continue spinning. The result is a much more consistent spool speed that is easier to manage and takes advantage of the reels maximum casting distance.
