Scope

• Design, build and installation of a suite of hot cells for the analysis of materials based at Culham Science Centre, Materials Research Facility MRF.

Key Features

• Receipt cell and 3 individual hot cells with the provision for 2 more.

• Steel construction 350mm thick.• Mass of approximately 300 Tonnes.• The individual hot cells process samples for analysing

materials.

General Features

• Rear doors for maintenance (air cushion allowed for easy operation)

• Master Slave Manipulators for regular cell operation.• Shielded trolley for loading and unloading small containers.• Receipt cell for unloading larger containers.• High integrity containments within each hot cell.• Active Ventilation and damper valves.• Transfer tunnels with sliding, sealed lead shield doors

(approx. 250kg). • Receipt cell shield door (36 Tonnes).

Scope

• Design, build and installation of 2 hot cells used to safely irradiate samples for materials research. Part of the University of Manchester, Dalton facility, located in Cumbria, UK.

Key Features

• Target Cell shielding is 120mm thick lead with 90mm of borated polyethylene.

• Handling Cell allows for the manipulation of the sample and packaging for analysis off site.

• Handling Cell is 160mm thick lead with stainless steel inner enclosure.

• Mass of approximately 43 Tonnes.

• 2x hinged lead and polymer shielded double doors (750kg each) for maintenance and access to vacuum equipment.

• Single 1800kg hinged lead shielded Handling Cell door for maintenance access.

• Irradiated sample shielded storage vault in the base of the Handling Cell.

• Remotely operated transfer system for sample transfer from Handling cell to Target cell.

• Transfer tunnel with sliding lead shield door (approx. 350kg).

• Shielded trolley for loading and unloading samples.

Lead Hot Cells – Radiopharmaceutical Client in Europe

Scope

• Design, build and installation of a suite of hot cells for the handling of radioisotopes.

Key Features

• 125 tonnes lead shielding up to 250mm thick with steel reinforcement structures.

• 3x 700 wide x 500 high x 700 deep lead glass windows. Approx. 3 tonnes each.

• Total mass of approximately 150 tonnes.

General Features

• 2x remotely operated robotic manipulators with 200kg lift capacity.

• 6x through wall master slave manipulators with 6kg lift capacity.

• 2x hinged manual lead shield doors (1.5 tonnes each) used for shielded access into containments.

• Transfer tunnel with remotely actuated sliding lead shield door and steel seal door.

• Stainless steel class 3 containments within each cell.• Getinge DPTE transfer port with manual sliding lead

shield door.

Shaft Cutting Station – UKAEA - ESS

Scope

• The design build and testing of size reduction equipment to be used within the process cell based at ESS, Sweden.

Key Features

• Size reduction equipment to receive and size reduce components of different shapes and sizes ranging from 560kg to 16 tonnes.

• Has to receive components in a vertical orientation and rotate through 90°.

• Entirely remotely operable and maintainable.• 2800 wide x 3200 high approx. 2 tonne diamond wire

saw.• Mostly stainless steel construction.

Concrete Shield Doors – ESS

Scope

• To design, build and install 3 concrete doors for neutron shielding of the 3 Triangular Rooms at the ESS, Sweden.

Key Features

• Each door has a mass of 20 tonnes.• Approximately W-2620mm x H-2800mm x D-1000mm.• Has to sit 10mm from the floor and walls.• Can be fully opened in 10 minutes.• Fully manual system, operated using a handwheel from

inside and outside the Triangular rooms.• Rail mounted.
