  • Sheltered Housing in Swindon

Sheltered Housing is a popular housing choice for many people with a varietyof housing needs.

Whether you currently rent from the Council or other landlords, or own your own home you can be accepted on the waiting list (providing you are over 60 or over 50 and on Disability Living Allowance and have no pets).

Please note owners need to be over 60.

To make life even simpler, the Council shares its waiting list with most other registered social landlords (sometimes called Housing Associations) so completing one form will mean you can be considered for over 50 schemes throughout the Swindon area.

Although each scheme is slightly different, within the majority of schemes you will find:-

Individual self-contained flats, bungalows or studio flats Carpeted and lit internal corridors Fully furnished communal lounges The services of a resident warden

or visiting scheme manager Guest rooms for visitors Regular coffee mornings and social

activities Economic central heating systems Communal laundries High level of fire protection and security 24 hour emergency alarm cover

And most importantly a sense of independence in a happy environment with the knowledge that help is on hand if required.

  • Extra Care Sheltered Housing

There are currently 4 sheltered schemes providing extra care. These schemes are Newburgh House in Highworth, The Ridings in Rodbourne, Harry Garrett Court in Wroughton and Maple Court in Moredon. Maple Court offers both rented and shared ownership options.

Extra care combines the benefits of living independently in sheltered housing with the provision of domiciliary care on site to enable people to maintain their independence and remain in their own homes.

All Schemes benefit from having a day care centre on site and the opportunity for tenants to enjoy a hot lunchtime meal.

To qualify for extra care housing, you must be in receipt of at least 10 hours personal care per week.
