PositionReportsPresident’sReportI would like to start by thanking our members, the committee and parents and for their support over the season. In my first year as President this support has allowed me to focus on the important things and work on the club as well as in the club. I would also like to make special mention to our previous President, Mr Peter Zalbergs who has provided me great insight and support as I grow into the role. Our first priority at Shelly Beach is Surf Life Saving and supporting the wider community. We had over 45,000 visitors to Shelly Beach during the season with a reported 49 aquatic rescues and countless first aids. Our 122 patrolling members contributed over 4,400 hours to patrols come rain, hail or shine and our patrolling year was made that bit easier with a season of half day patrols. We have continued our focus with the better clubs quality program and at the end of the season have over 40 procedures under version control supporting our club. We had 2 new policies created this season and an update to another. This continual improvement was driven by the members which is the best driver of change. Education has gone from strength to strength this season. We ran multiple IRB Crew, IRB Driver, SRC and Bronze courses. This in part resulted in 18 x Bronze Medallion, 12 x IRB Crew, 6 x IRB Drivers, 4 x Trainers Certificates, 11 x SRC, 9 x Surf Sports Officials, 1 x Gold Medallion, 6 x SMAR, 3 x Provide First Aid, 4 x Beach Management, 1 x Remote Pilot, 1 x Assessors Certificate & 5 x ARTC. For a club of our size we have certainly strengthened our foundation for the younger generation coming through and of course “many hands makes light work”. In terms of competition I am very proud of Shelly Beach. We had representation and success at Pool Rescue 2016, the World Junior Interclub competition, Australian Pool Rescue Champs, State Pool Rescue, Aussies SLS, State SLS and Branch SLS respectively. The Beachletics Carnival was run at Shelly Beach for the first time in 2016. The date coincided with the raising of the flags and provided great publicity for both SLS and NSW Athletics. The event follows the 2016 SLS NSW initiative to combine and collaborate with other not for profit bodies with a goal of inclusion and diversification. The event was hailed a success and even appeared on local television and newspaper. Central Coast Tourism is now backing the annual event and in terms of inclusion the event certainly achieved the outcome. This year also saw Shelly Beach move from a manual maintenance recording system to an online maintenance management system. This has allowed us greater visibility of routine and corrective maintenance and as a result we are responding to maintenance requests usually on the day they are raised. This has been a rewarding season for me personally and certainly look forward to our next season. Shelly Beach…”Where friends meet”

WithallthiscomesthehugejobofcomplianceandtheneverendingdemandsontheclubmembersandexecutivesupportedbySurfLifeSavingCentralCoast,NSWandAustraliatoachieveresultsthatincludethedevelopmentofanothergroupofrookielifesavers,astrongpatrolpresence,theattainmentoftheGoldQualityProgramandstrongresultsinlocal,branch,stateandNationalCarnivals.

CongratulationstoeverymemberoftheclubforthisgreatseasonandShellywillreflectonthisandfacetheoncomingseasonwithanotherroundofdeterminationanddedication.

ClubCaptain’sReportCongratulationspatrollingMembersofShellyBeachSLSC.

Whatafantasticseason2016/2017was!Overthepatrollingseasonwehadover49000visitorstoourbeach,saved49livesthatwerereportedandcountlessfirstaidtreatmentswereperformedthroughouttheseason.Thankfully,onlyasmallpercentageofthoserequiredAmbulanceattendance.Our11patrolscombinedinvestedover4400hoursofvolunteeringhourstoachievetheabove-whataabsolutelyastonishingachievement.

SpecialmentiongoestoMark(Pup)Griffin,GlenWighamandToowoonBay'sPaulGahawho,wontheDecember2016RescueoftheMonthawardatBranchforsaving2liveslateoneafternooninquitehorrendousconditions.Welldonetothose3talentedlifesaverswhowereatswimandboardtrainingthatafternoon.Withoutthemthere,wewouldhavehad2fatalitiesthatafternoononShellyBeach.ThankyouPup,GlenandPaul.

CongratulationsalsotoourJACandnipperprogramforteaching/coachingourjuniorlifesaversvaluableskillshighlightedby2U9'sandanU13whowhileonpatrolinAprilrescued,withouthesitating,2mencaughtinanoutgoingrip.WeandtheLee,FieldandCrookfamily'sarerightly,veryproudofNateLee,DuncanFieldandJadeCrook.JadewentwellbeyondheryearswhilerepresentingherselfandourclubwhenshespokeextremelywelltoapackedaudienceatasponsorsnightatSolider'sBeachrecently.Shemadeeyestearywithprideasshetoldherstory.These3children,whenquestionedabouttheirheroics,thoughtitwasnobigdeal,theywerejustoutcatchingwavesandhavingfun.Welldonetoallinvolved.

PaulDowdellisamassiveassettoourclubforhisworkintakingontheChiefTrainingOfficerpositionlastseason,notonlyhasherevolutionisedthewayourclubtrainsourmembershewasalsonominatedbyourclubfortheprestigiousBranch"LifesaverOftheYear"award.Hiseffortsbothonandoffthebeachareremarkable.Paulputin128patrolhoursonourbeachlastseason,attended100%ofhisRWCpatrolandinvestedcountlesshourstrainingourmembers.WeallowePaulahugecongratulationsandapatontheback.

CongratulationstoallofourperpetualawardwinnersfrombothSeniorandJuniorPresentationsheldrecently.SpecialmentiontoGaryBakerwhoisourPatrolPersonoftheYear,BraithWalterswhoisourJuniorClubPersonoftheYearandKianaLaganwhoisourRookieOftheYear.WelldoneGary,BraithandKiana.

ChiefTrainingOfficer’sReportAnothersuccessfulseasonhasfinishedatShellyBeachSurfLifesavingClub,withourpatrollingmembersonceagainkeepingShellyBeachsafeforthevisitingpublic,family,andfriendsandIwouldliketothankallthepatrollingmembersforthehourstheyhaveputinforthe2016/17season.

LifesavingandPatrolsalongwithTrainingandEducationaretwoofourcorebusinessareaswithOngoingeducationformingakeyroleinhelpingprovideourmemberswiththeknowledgeandskillstonotonlypatroleffectively,buttoalsorespondtoanyfirstaidoremergencysituationthatmayarise.ThisisthereasonwhytheShellyBeachexecutivehaddeterminedthisseasontoabsorbthecostofongoingeducationforPatrollingmemberswhowantedtoundertakefurthercourses,asthecommitteerecognisedthatthebenefitbacktotheclubandcommunity,faroutweighedthecostsoutlayedforanycourses.

ApleasinglyaspectofthisseasonhasbeenthegrowthintheteamoftrainersatShellyBeach.AtthelastBronzeMedallioncoursewehadeightactivetrainerspreparedtovolunteertheirtimeandhelptrainnewmembers.IpersonallywouldliketothankShaunGersch,DanielSigl,OliverSigl,GaryBaker,SteveLee,AndrewHessel,BronwynMcKirdy,KyleMcKirdy,SueDavis,andTerryVellaforallyourassistancewithMemberproficienciesandTrainingcoursesthroughouttheseason.Suchanumberoftrainersonhand,willallowShellyBeachtoprovideavarietyofcourses,moreoften,throughouttheupcomingseason,furtherupskillingmembers,whichisagreatthingforbothindividualsandtheclubalike.

IwouldalsoliketocongratulateMichaelLawtononbecomingoneofthefirstSLSdroneoperatorsinthestateaswellascompleteinghisAssessorscertificateandwillnowbeabletoassessourcandidatesinIRBcrewandDrivercoursesaswellastheyearlyproficiencies.CongratulationsMickonthisachievement.Withmoreandmoremembersgainingtheirtrainingandassessorsawards,thiswillhelpreduceourrelianceongettingtrainersandassessorsfromotherclubstoassistuswithourcourses,and,onbehalfofShellyBeach,Iwouldliketothank,DaveChaffer(NorthEntrance)andRamzyFawzy(SLSCC)foralltheirhelpthisseasonasAssessors.

Under7AgeManager’sReportThisagegroupwasnotonlyhugeinnumbersthisseason,theyshoneandshowedteamspiritandgreatenthusiasmwiththesupportofthemanyparentsthatassistedeachweek.Theabilitiesofmanyimprovedoutsightandimportantlythisgrouphadfuninasafeenvironmentlearninglifeskills.TheUnder7’swerealsoupskilledreadyforcarnivalsnextseasonandwillbeastrongforcenextseasonnotonlyonthebeachbutinthewater.

Wewerefortunatetotrialanewprogram–designedbyKeaton–the’RedbackProgram‘andthisallowedtheUnder7’stohaveatasteofcatchingawave,learningaboutthesurf,balanceandjusthavingfunusingredbacksurfmatswhilstparentsprovidedoneononewatersafety.ThisprogramwillfollowthemnextseasonandhelpwiththetransitionintheUnder9’stoboardriding.

Ahugethankstothisgroupofgreatkidsandparentsandwelookforwardtoseeingyouallbacknextseason.Everyonewasawinnerinthisagegroup!

Under8’sAgeManagerReportThisseasonofNippersfortheunder8'shasbeenagreatyear.SteveandIalongwithalltheparentsandI'msurethekidsthemselveshaveseenaincrediblechangeinthetheirskillsandconfidenceespeciallyinthewater,Althoughwehavebeenmostlydoingthewadeasawatereventandvariousotherwateractivitiestoallowthekidstobecomemoreconfident,wefeelthatthisseasonhasputinattributesthatwillmaketheunder9seasonaloteasiertoaccomplish.

Thekidshavealsoimprovedalotwiththeirsandevents.Wehaveseenbothboysandgirlsreallygivingitagoandtryingtheirbestwhetheritbeingdivingextrahardforthoseflagsordiggingtheirtoesinthesandthatlittledeepertogofasterinthesprints.

Thisyearwasthefirstyearofcarnivalsforunder8's.Theparticipationandresultsparticularlyforthegirlswasimpressive.

ThankstotheparentsfortheirhelpduringthoseSundaymorningsandmostofallthankstotheboysandgirlswhohelpedmakeitagreatseasonandbecamemoreconfidentinthebeachandwateractivities.

ThisyearwewelcomedintoourfoldournewteammatesConnorM,ConnorCandAydenwhilstwelcomingbackafterayearoffConnorB.

Allthekidshavesucceededintheirowndevelopmentthisseason.

Aydenisslowlyconcurringhisfearoftheboardstepbystep,whichisacredittohisperseverance.Whilsthisswimandbodysurfinghasbeenoutstandingforafirstyear.

ConnorCridgehasbeenourbiggestimproverfortheyearandcannowswimandboardaroundthosedreadedcans.

ConorBradshawhasalsohadanoutstandingimprovementthisseasonwithhisconfidenceandabilityinboththeboardandswim.

Chelseaagainthisyearhascontinuedtoimproveinallareas,makingitseemlikeyearsagothatthetearswouldfloweachweek.Unfortunately,shehashadareducedseasonwithusthisyearduetovariousillnesses.

Bastianhasimprovedoutofsightthisseasonwithconsistentswimsaroundthecansbeforeillnessshortenedhisseasonaswell,wereallylookforwardtoseeingwhatnextseasonbringsforhim.

OursmallgroupofkidswhohaverepresentedShellyBeachthisyearatcarnivalsconsistingofElizabeth,Chelsea,Jack,ConnorM,AshtonandCohen,havereallyexcelledthemselvesforasmallgroup.TheybroughthomenumerousindividualandteammedalsthroughouttheseasonatlocalcarnivalsandrepresenteduswellattheNewcastlePermanentIronpersonserieswithElizabethmakingthepodium.

Atstatethemtheyallcompetedextremelywellgettingtosemi-finalsandacoupleoffinals.

AspecialmentionmustbemadeforJames,whoweallloveandmissedthisseasonduetoanongoingillness.Wewishhimaspeedyrecoveryandlookforwardtoseeinghimnextseason.

Under13’sAgeManagerReportThisyearwasagreatonefortheU/13’swithafewinexperiencednippersmixedinwithahighlycompetitive,competitiongroup.Despitethebigdifferenceinskillsandgoals,allofthekidsinthegroupworkedreallywelltogetherandwerealwaysapleasuretodealwith.

Hannah,Liam,RileyandBrookwereallhavingtheirfirstyearinourgroupbutalltriedtheirhardesttogetusedtotheboardsandeachofthempushedthroughfearstotacklesometrickyconditionsandoftendifficultwaves.Corey,inhissecondseasonwasonceagainfearlessandenthusiasticandmadebigleapsinhisskills.

Bodysurfingwasalwaysapopularsessionwithallthekidshavingplentyoffunandlearninghowtogetinandoutthroughallkindsofwaves.Italsobroughtthecompandnoncompgroupstogetherinafunway.

Ourcompetitiongroupdidreallywellagainandpickedupabucketloadofindividualmedalsandteammedalsintheswimteam,boardrelayandCameronevents.JadealwaysplaysabigpartinourCameronteams,butitwasgreattoseehercompetinginafewteamsfortheU/14’satcarnivalsandwiththisexperienceandconfidence,sheshouldflynextyearonthebigboards.

Damianmadebigleapsagainthisyearandsteppedupreallywellasaveryvaluablepartoftheswimteam,plushisboardwasultra-competitive,pushingalltheboysateachtrainingsessionandinraces.

Rileybattledillnessandinjuryallseasonbutstillliftedtoawholenewlevel,withhisgreatercommitmentrewardedwithplentyofmedalsincludingindividualgoldandselectiontotheInterbranchteam.

Kaiwasagainveryconsistentandhadsomegreatindividualperformancesbutheisalwaysathisbestinteameventswherehecanbereliedupontogive100%ineveryevent.

Joelhadamixedseasonwithsomeresultsdisappointinghimandequallysomeoutstandingresults,including2ndinInterbranchIronman,butnomatterwhathealwaysgaveeverythinghehadinallhistrainingandraces.
