    Shell Thiogro’s new Urea-ES technology helps progressive urea manufacturers to satisfy the growing demand for plant nutrient sulphur by incorporating sulphur into the world’s most widely- used fertiliser – urea.

    In many cases, Shell’s Urea-ES technology can help create cost savings at the plant by replacing a portion

    of higher cost nitrogen feedstock with lower cost elemental sulphur.

    Incorporating elemental sulphur into urea can also free up additional urea liquor or ammonia feedstock, which can be used to produce more urea, or be redirected to other uses.

    The flexibility of Shell Urea-ES technology allows fertiliser manufacturers to produce customised sulphur-enhanced urea formulations that suit the unique needs of their customers, offering an all-in-one nitrogen and sulphur fertiliser solution.

    By incorporating elemental sulphur—the most concentrated form of sulphur—Shell Urea-ES technology also produces fertilisers with a higher nutrient density than straight urea, helping to create logistical efficiencies along the value chain.

    SULPHUR-ENHANCED UREA GRANULE

    A cross section of a sulphur-enhanced urea granule produced using Shell Urea-ES technology reveals consistently-dispersed particles of elemental sulphur, in white. The average particle size is less than 40 µm (40/1000 mm).

    The formulation of the depicted sulphur-enhanced urea is 40-0-0 13S (sulphur is in elemental form).
