Have you ever seen a millipede in your backyard?

The giant African millipede lives in damp dark caves that are not too cold. It also lives under rotten wood and of course in Africa.

The millipede eats a lot of things like rotting plants, lettuce, salads, crickets, and fresh fruits.

This weird bug has lots of legs and a long black body. When it is a baby it has yellow stripes. When it gets a little older it gets red stripes. When it is an adult it is all black.

This bug can be a good pet and does not bite. The millipede lives 2 - 6 years. Millipedes can grow to be 20 - 28 centimeters. They do not have eyes and can curl into a ball. There are 10,000 species and lay up to 1,000 eggs at a time.
