Sheet1 Page 1 Häxans Slouchy Fair Isle hat This pattern was made by Anita Viksten (haxansstickor). This is a one size pattern and is made to fit the average head. It is knit in the round. If the hat feels to wide/tight use smaller/bigger needles. You will need: 2,5 mm 40 cm circular needles 3,0 mm 40 cm circular needles 3,0 mm double pint needles (when making the top of the hat) 6 stitch markers Tapetsry needle to weave in the ends. Yarn in six differen colours. I used approx. 70 grams of two ply wool yarn measuring 300 m/100 grams (sport) for the entire hat, so use up some of your scraps. (20 grams / each colour to be on the safe side). Gauge:. 29 stitches and 29 rows = 10 x10 cm. Cast on 150 stitches (st) using colour 1 and 2,5 mm needles. Join together and place one marker at the beginning of the row. Purl one row. Next row: knit one in colour 1, knit one in colour 2, repeat to end of row. For the rest of the ribbing follow chart 1. Change to 3,0 mm needles and knit the charts in numeric order. You will repeat the top chart six times in one row. !!! On the first row of chart 2 you will also make 18 increases as follows: knit 8, pick one up from between the stitches. At the end of the row there will be 168 stitches. The decreases at the end of the top is made over three stitches. Centered double decrease. The first stitch on the decrease row is the last stitch on the previous row. (I´ve marked them ”d” in the chart) Slip two stitches together as if to knit. Knit one. Pass the slipped stitches over the knitted stitch. This creates a very symetrical decrease. You will make six decreases in one row, use the remaining markers to keep track of them. Break the yarn when theres only 12 stitches remaining. Weave in all the ends. Washing and blocking: Soak the hat in lukewarm wather for a few minutes. I usually block hats using plastic grocerybags (5-10) fill the hat with them, shape it as you like and let it dry with the bags inside. Hope you enjoy your new hat!
