Type 1 Diabetes | JDRF | Juvenile Diabetes Research FoundationTRANSCRIPT
3 million people in the United States live with
Type 1 Diabetes
Each year 30,000 people are
diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
15,000 of those people
are children.
Shayne is one of those children…
This is his story.
Shayne looks like most kids…
He enjoys laughing and being goofy…
He is a son and a brother.
And he loves being outside and playing.
April 9, 2012
Shayne’s life changed forever. He was diagnosed
with Type 1 Diabetes.
Low or high blood sugars can take his life at any time,
they could even put him in a coma if he isn’t careful…
It’s a threat when he runs or plays…
It follows him to school…
It requires him to weigh almost everything before he eats it and
count every carb that goes into his body…
And it stops him from being just
a kid.
Shayne has to check his blood sugar multiple times throughout the day
and night. That means approximately
4,000 finger pokes each year.
And countless insulin shots…
Until there is a cure.
Shayne, along with
many other children,
fight a quiet battle
A battle that diabetes wins too many times…
It doesn’t have to be this way…
We see a brighter future!
A future where Type 1 Diabetes will be
cured!
We are determined to find that cure. To give Shayne that life…
but we can’t do it alone.
We need
your help to fight this disease.
