SHATTERED DREAMS A Treatment
We open to the home of Joshua and Sarah Applegate. Joshua has just returned home from work and Sarah is pulling up the driveway. She has just returned from the grocery store and they begin to take the groceries into the house. Joshua makes himself comfortable in the living room while Sarah starts dinner. She brings Joshua pills to take with a glass of water. We see Joshua put the pills in his pocket and pour himself a drink. Eventually, dinner is ready and the two enjoy a nice romantic dinner.
We cut to the bedroom where Joshua and Sarah are getting ready for bed. Joshua starts brushing his teeth and pulls the pills out of his pocket. He sneaks out to the garage and puts them in a baggy in his toolbox. Joshua returns to the bedroom, telling Sarah that he thought he forgot to roll up the windows in his car. They tell each other goodnight and go to sleep.
When Joshua wakes up in the morning, he realizes the room feels colder than normal and he has a headache. Touching his hand to his forehead leaves a bloodstain on his palm. Then he realizes he is lying of the floor. Dazed, he gets up and wanders over to the open window and closes it. He turns around and sees his wife lying in bed. He walks over to her, and kisses her asking if she’s ok. She isn’t responding to his questions so he shakes her to get her attention, and all of a sudden his hands feel wet. He turns on the light to see his wife’s blood all over his hands and staining the bed. She is dead, and now we hear the doorbell and loud knocking on the door. Joshua’s best friend is there. They had plans to play basketball in the morning. We can hear Joshua’s friend yelling in a cheerful, bantering way. Joshua stumbles to the door and opens it. His friend, Ted, sees the blood and freaks out. He calls the cops while Joshua, still groggy, is trying to make sense of what’s going on. Ted tries to ask Joshua what happened as we hear sirens in the distance.
The police arrive and attempt to get some information from Joshua, but he is in shock and unresponsive. Ted offers to help with whatever he can, and then Joshua heads down to the police station with the officers.
We cut to the police station, where Joshua is being questioned about the scene of the crime. As he is being asked difficult questions, he seems to have an image in his head of Ted killing his wife but shakes it off. More questions and he is told he will have a hard time proving his case in court. We see Joshua get arrested and dragged off for the murder of his wife.
We cut to the morning of the trial. We are in the courtroom and the verdict is about to be read to Joshua. He gives the judge a last minute plea for mercy, but it is too late. As the judge reads the guilty verdict, Joshua falls to his knees and begins to scream and cry. We watch Joshua continue to scream as the police escort him to jail.
Several days pass and we now see Joshua in his prison cell. Ted arrives for a visit and through their conversation Joshua begins to become paranoid, and the images in his head of Ted killing his wife become more concrete. He starts to think of it as being reality and not just a dream, and after becoming convinced of this, begins to freak out on Ted, trying to choke him. Ted, wrestling for his life, is rescued by the guards. They carry Joshua off as he screaming accusations at Ted about what he thinks really happened.
It is now a couple years later. We see Joshua in the backseat of a police car. He is being transferred to a mental institution. We can hear some of the conversation the officers are having. They are mostly talking about the prisoners they routinely transport.
We cut to a shot of the interior of Joshua’s new cell. Joshua is sitting, mumbling to himself on the floor. The doctor opens the door to inform Joshua of a visitor he has. Joshua walks down the hall to the visitor area where he sees Ted waiting behind a panel of glass. He stiffens with anger as he enters the room, asking Ted what he’s doing there. Ted explains he has come to try and make reparations, and help Joshua realize that Ted did not commit the murder and still wants to support him as a friend. They talk for a while and it begins to get heated. Ted tells Joshua that the police found pills he had been hiding in his toolbox. Joshua had been hiding the fact that he wasn’t taking his medication, and this sparks a loud argument. The guards cut off conversation after Joshua won’t stop screaming at Ted. Joshua is then sedated and taken back to his cell. We
hear more details about Joshua’s medication he was supposed to be taking all along.
Joshua is back in his cell and several hours have passed. He starts to remember the truth of what happened the night of his wife’s murder. Sequences become more rapid and he starts to become frustrated as he realizes that it was not Ted, but it really was him who killed his own wife. He realizes this over a period of time, and is bashing his head into the mirror above his sink throughout the process. Doctors and nurses try to rush to help. Joshua puts his head through the mirror, cuts his neck and begins bleeding all over the place. The doctors fumble with the door for a while, finally getting it open and put him on a medical cart to rush him to the infirmary. Joshua, bleeding, smirks along the way, coming to terms with what happened and dies before he can receive sufficient medical assistance. The final shot is of Joshua’s creepy smiling face, then the screen fades to white.
SHATTERED DREAMS
1 INT. SUBURBAN HOME - DAY 1
JOSHUA APPLEGATE has just returned home from work when his
wife SARAH APPLEGATE pulls into the driveway and parks in
the garage. She is returning from the grocery
store. Joshua begins to help her unload groceries from the
car. They head into the kitchen.
SARAH
How was work today?
(She begins unloading
groceries)
JOSHUA
Typical day. I think I’m close to
closing the Johnson deal though.
(hands a box of crackers to
Sarah to put away)
SARAH
That’s great honey! Maybe we’ll
get that lake cottage after all.
Joshua heads into the living room and pours himself a
drink. Sarah brings him a glass of water and some pills to
take, then returns to the kitchen to start making
dinner. Joshua picks up the water and pours a splash into
his whiskey. He puts the pills in his shirt pocket and
turns on the television. As he finishes his drink, Joshua
begins to doze off.
SARAH
Dinner’s ready.
JOSHUA
(waking up)
Great, I’m starving.
Joshua and Sarah head into the kitchen and sit down to eat
dinner.
SARAH
So, tell me more about the deal
you’re about to close.
JOSHUA
Let’s not ruin this by talking
about work. How was your day? Get
yourself into any trouble?
SARAH
(smiling)
You know me, I’m always causing
trouble. Around the neighborhood,
(MORE)

SARAH (cont’d)at the store, at the filling
station. I pretty much spend my
days getting into mischief.
(laughs)
JOSHUA
The only trouble you cause is for
all the other men that see that
ring on your finger. I’m a lucky
man, Sarah.
SARAH
(still smiling)
And I’m lucky to have such a
wonderful husband.
2 INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT 2
Joshua and Sarah are getting ready for bed. Joshua removes
the pills from his pocket as he brushes his teeth. After
brushing his teeth, Joshua leaves the room and puts the
pills in a bag in his toolbox out in the garage. He returns
to the bedroom and gets in bed.
JOSHUA
(getting into bed)
Ahhhh, best part of the day.
(leaning over to kiss Sarah)
Goodnight sweetheart.
SARAH
Where did you go?
JOSHUA
I thought I left my windows down,
and it looks like it could rain
tonight. Anyways, goodnight
sweetheart.
SARAH
Ok...goodnight...
3 INT. SUBURBAN HOME - EARLY MORNING 3
Joshua slowly wakes up and feels cold. He is very groggy
and has a terrible headache. He notices the window is open
and starts to wonder what is going on. He shuffles out of
bed in a daze and shuts the window. He then returns to the
bed to check on Sarah.
3.
JOSHUA
(mumbling to himself)
What is going on?
(nudges Sarah)
You okay? What the hell
happened? Sarah? Hey Sarah, you
alright?
After receiving no response from his wife, Joshua notices
something on his hand. He then quickly switches on the
bedside lamp. He sees blood on his hand.
JOSHUA
What the fuck? Oh no. Oh no.
Joshua slowly turns around and looks at the bed. Sarah is
lying in a pool of blood. He rushes onto the bed and starts
shaking her, refusing to believe that she could be dead.
JOSHUA
(frantically shouting)
Oh Jesus! Sarah! Sarah! No! No!
Nooooooo!
Just as Joshua is becoming completely hysterical, there is a
knock at the door. It’s his friend and neighbor, TED. When
there is no answer at the door, Ted knocks a few more times
and starts calling out to Joshua.
TED
Hello? Hey Josh, let’s go. Time
to hit the gym you lazy bastard!
(chuckles to himself)
Joshua! C’mon Josh, this was your
idea.
Joshua ignores Ted at first, but eventually pulls himself
together and goes to answer the door.
TED
Hey buddy. It’s about
time. What’s going on? You’re
still in your pajam-
(noticing the blood on
Joshua’s hands)
Christ Josh, are you alright? What
the hell happened?
JOSHUA
I...I...I don’t know.
4.
TED
What do you mean you don’t
know? You’re covered in
blood! What’s going on?
JOSHUA
It’s Sarah...
TED
Oh no, is she okay?
JOSHUA
She’s dead Ted. She’s fucking
dead.
TED
Oh my God Josh! I’m so
sorry. What happened?!
JOSHUA
(losing his composure)
That’s the thing! I have
absolutely no idea. I woke up with
a pounding headache and the window
was open. Somebody came into our
bedroom and murdered my wife right
next to me! For some reason he
spared my life, but he must have
knocked me out. I don’t remember
anything after going to bed.
Ted rushes into the kitchen and calls the police. Joshua
sits on the floor in the hallway near the front door.
TED
I’m here for you buddy. The cops
are on their way. We’ll find the
bastard that did this, don’t you
worry about that. Let’s try to get
you cleaned up a little before the
police get here.
Several police cars and an ambulance arrive at Joshua’s home
within minutes. Ted runs out to meet one of the
officers. The two of them come back into the house and
approach Joshua, still on the floor.
OFFICER
Very sorry about your wife
sir. Where...um...where is she at?
Joshua remains silent on the floor and doesn’t acknowledge
the officer at all. He begins to shiver and sob.
5.
OFFICER
Sir?
TED
She’s in their bed, I think. I
haven’t been able to get much out
of him. Understandably, he’s been
pretty worked up since I got here.
Several more officers have made their way into the
house. They head toward the bedroom. The first officer
manages to get Joshua to the kitchen table.
OFFICER
Joshua, I realize that you’re very
upset. But we’re going to need you
to tell us something for us to be
able to help you. You have no
recollection whatsoever?
Joshua just stares down at the table. He is still silent
and has a completely blank look on his face.
OFFICER
Well, I think it would be in
everyone’s best interest if you
came back to the station with us.
JOSHUA
(looking up, worriedly)
You don’t think I...
OFFICER
No one is accusing you of anything
Joshua. You’ll be safe at the
station. You can have all the time
you need, then when you’re ready,
we’ll talk. We just need some info
from you so we can start our
investigation.
TED
It’s for the best, Josh. If there
is anything at all I can do to help
you through this, please let me
know.
Joshua stands up without saying another word. He heads
outside with the officer.
6.
4 INT. POLICE STATION- MID DAY 4
Joshua is at a table across from a sheriff in an
interrogation room. It is a white room lit only by one small
light bulb hanging from the ceiling, and thick glass
windows. Joshua is being questioned concerning his wife’s
murder.
OFFICER
(Standing with hands on table
and leaning towards Joshua)
So Joshua...You wanna explain to me
the events of last evening?
JOSHUA
(Sitting with head in hands)
I didn’t do this! I couldn’t
have...I loved Sarah...
OFFICER
Joshua...explain to me what
happened last night.
JOSHUA
(Looking up at the officer
now)
I...I got home from work a quarter
after 5. When I got home, Sarah was
just getting home from the grocery
store...I helped her unload the
car. We got the car unloaded, and I
sat down to have a glass of scotch.
It was a big day at work, and I
needed to sit down. Sarah made a
dinner, and we had a nice...This
can’t be real. Tell me this isn’t
true...Please tell me!!
(Begins to cry heavily)
OFFICER
(Moves next to Joshua)
Joshua...I know this is hard but we
need to know what happened. You
need to tell me. I wanna believe
you, but we first need to hear what
you were doing last night.
JOSHUA
(Calms enough to continue)
We...we had a nice romantic dinner
and evening. It seemed too good to
be true, but then again, that’s how
every day with Sarah seemed. We had

JOSHUA (cont’d)a great relationship...We loved
each other. I would never harm
her...After enjoying our evening
we...we went to bed. Next thing I
remember, I wake up to find my wife
murdered in our own bed.
OFFICER
(Begins to pace the room)
Ok...What caused you to wake up so
early? Do you always wake up that
early or was this a rare occasion?
JOSHUA
(Appears to be thinking hard)
I remember waking up and being very
cold. The window was open. I shut
it and went back to bed. That’s
when I found her...Whoever did this
came through the wind...window..
(Appears to be struggling with
something)
OFFICER
(Stops pacing)
Whats wrong Joshua? Do you remember
doing it now? Are you finally ready
to confess to the murder of your
wife?
JOSHUA
(Staring blankly back at the
officer)
No...no, I’m not. I just had an
image of my wife being murdered.
Almost as if it was a dream. I
can’t make out anything though.
It’s all so fuzzy to me. It almost
appears to be...no, no it cant be.
He would never.
(Shaking head)
OFFICER
Who Joshua? Who would never?
JOSHUA
For a minute, it looked like my
good friend and neighbor Ted. He
was there when you guys came out.
He would never do such a thing
though.
8.
Another officer walks into the room and hands the first
officer a piece of paper. The officer looks it over and
shakes his head.
OFFICER
Well Josh, I don’t know where
you’re getting these ideas. All
signs point to you as the lead
suspect. After looking over the
evidence from the crime scene, I
have no choice but to say you’re
the killer Joshua.
JOSHUA
(Shakes head and puts head in
hands)
No...No, no it wasn’t me. I
wouldn’t...You can’t do this. I can
see it wasn’t me...
OFFICER
I have no choice Joshua. How else
do you explain this? I don’t think
your story is going to hold up in
court...
(Reaching for his handcuffs)
Joshua...You are under arrest for
the murder of your wife, Sarah...
5 INT. COURTROOM- MORNING 5
Joshua is in court awaiting the ruling on his wife’s murder
case. He his nervous and anxious to hear the verdict. If he
is found guilty, he knows he is likely to be sentenced to
life in jail. He still insists he was not the one who
killed Sarah, and the images he continues to see are
becoming more and more vivid.
JUDGE
Before I make my final ruling
Joshua, are there any last words
you would like to give to this
courtroom?
JOSHUA
(Turns towards the the jury)
I know I did not kill my wife. I
loved her, and would’ve never laid
my hands on her in a violent
manner. She was my everything.
Without her, I am nothing. Why
would I kill her? I have absolutely
(MORE)
9.
JOSHUA (cont’d)no motive. None... Why would anyone
kill their best friend in the world
for no reason? They wouldn’t. I
hope you can take that into
consideration as you make your
final decision.
JUDGE
I know this must be hard on you
Joshua, but if you are found to be
guilty, I have no choice but to
punish accordingly. It would not
change the fact that you killed
her. I just want you to know that.
JOSHUA
I know that ma’am, but i know it
wasn’t me. If I did it, I would own
up and take the sentencing, but I
know i wouldn’t have done it.
JUDGE
(Receives the ruling from the
jury)
Well a decision has been made on
the murder of Sarah
Applegate...When it comes to the
murder of Mrs. Applegate, the jury
has found Joshua
Applegate...Guilty...
(Looks up from the paper)
JOSHUA
(Falls to knees)
Nooooooooo!!!! I didn’t do it. This
isn’t right!! You have to believe
me!! Please.....
JUDGE
I’m sorry Joshua but you are now
sentenced to serve life in jail.
This court is adjourned.
The judge steps down from her podium and officers come into
take Joshua away.
JOSHUA
I didn’t kill my
wife...no!...Sarah!...I didn’t do
it!
(Sheriffs drag him away as
scene ends)
10.
6 INT. PRISON CELL - DAY 6
Joshua is lying on his bed in his cell, looking kind of
confused because everything happening to him still seems
very surreal. He has a Bible by his pillow, and a small,
dank urinal in the corner. Light shines in through the bars
of a small window in the upper-middle section of the wall
opposite the door. After he sits for a few moments, he hears
footsteps. He glances up at his cell and rushes toward the
door when he sees Ted’s face on the other side of the bars,
accompanied by a prison guard.
JOSHUA
Ted! Wow, you sure know how to make
a guy who’s down on his luck pretty
darn happy! Say, you know it wasn’t
me, don’t you? You have to know!
TED
Yeah, Josh, I know, I know. I don’t
know what to tell you. The evidence
was seriously stacked against you.
When I hear all of that I don’t
know what to think, but my gut
tells me to go with you. It’s a
tough thing, you know.
JOSHUA
A tough thing?! You think you’ve
got it tough, Ted? At least you’re
still on the outside of these bars
and this crummy cement cell. As it
sits now, I’ve been sentenced to
sleep on a piece of plywood with a
cardboard pillow for the rest of my
life! And, oh, the memories, let me
tell you about the memories! I
can’t seem to shake them!
TED
(entering the cell)
Ok, Ok! You’re right! Just, calm
down a second, will you? Or else
they won’t let me stay.
JOSHUA
I’m sorry Ted, it’s just...
TED
I know Josh, I know... No one saw
this coming...
11.
JOSHUA
I just wish I could remember it,
you know? I keep running through
the scene over and over in my mind.
In the evening I’m enjoying a
romantic dinner prepared by my
lovely wife, had a little to drink,
and then the next thing I know I
wake up with a headache, and
there’s blood...Blood! Everywhere!
TED
(tearing up as he listens)
I know! I know Joshua. Jesus! I
wish I could help but I just don’t
know how...
JOSHUA
And that’s the thing about it Ted.
I keep having this image pop into
my head. This nightmare. Almost as
if I’m watching the thing
happening. And there is someone
else in the room. Someone else is
attacking Sarah, someone else
is...oh God!...you’ve got to
believe me Ted, I didn’t do it, I
didn’t do it, I didn’t do it...
TED
(sitting next to Joshua and
cradling his head)
I know Josh, I know...
GUARD
You’ve got five more minutes.
TED
Thanks sir, that should be fine.
JOSHUA
(looking up at Ted)
I just, I don’t know what to do...
TED
(smirks from lack of knowing
what else to do)
Me either Josh... Me ei-
JOSHUA
(still looking at Ted)
Wait! Ted. What was that smirk for?
12.
TED
Do you mean just right now? I don’t
know, like this?
(smirking)
I don’t know if I know what you’re
talking about...
JOSHUA
Yes, like that! That looks so
familiar, so familiar but I can’t
place it. With all these dreams
I’ve been having recently it’s
starting to become difficult to
tell the difference between reality
and what goes on in my head. But
that smile, yes... I’ve
seen...wait.
TED
What?
JOSHUA
(voice trembling)
Ted.
TED
Yes?
JOSHUA
Where were you, the night she died?
TED
I’ve told you this already Josh...I
was at home, just across the
street.
JOSHUA
(becoming more anxious)
No, Ted. Where were you?
TED
I just told you. Josh, I don’t get
this.
JOSHUA
(getting loud now)
Ted! Where were you that night?!
Because I can see you!
TED
See me? Josh, what are you talking
about? What do you mean?
13.
JOSHUA
Oh, you know what I mean Ted, you
know damn well what I mean! I can
see you there. That smile, I’ve
seen it before!
TED
Of course you have, you’ve known me
for years! Geeze Josh, your
starting to scare me! Calm down!
JOSHUA
(standing up, and beginning to
yell)
No! You calm down! I can see it
now! It’s starting to become
clearer!
(Joshua starts choking Ted)
It was you! It was you Ted! I can
see you grinning that grin as you
stabbed her right in the stomach!
TED
(being strangled)
Ahh!! Josh! Help!! Ahh help!!
JOSHUA
(still strangling him)
It was you! It was you! It was you!
You bastard!
A guard rushes into the cell and beats Joshua over the head
with his billy club.
GUARD
Hey!
(swinging club)
Hey! Let go of him!
(one last swing knocks out
Joshua)
7 INT. COP CAR - MID-MORNING 7
A couple years have passed since the previous incident.
Joshua, after deteriorating health, is now being transferred
to an insane asylum, where the authorities are convinced
would be the best place for him to try and regain or even
retain the little health he has left. Joshua is in the back
seat of a cop car, with two officers DARYL and JONES in the
front seat. There are two other cop cars, one in front and
one behind. Joshua looks pale and detached from reality.
14.
JONES
You know Daryl, I always really
hated driving these routes.
DARYL
Why’s that, Jones?
JONES
Simple. Guys like him
(points to Joshua)
Scare the daylights out of me.
DARYL
I know what you mean. They just sit
there, eyes open, not saying a
thing.
JONES
Yeah! But you gotta’ know they’re
thinking about something. It’s
just,
(hitting the divider)
ugh, see? You can’t even get a
reaction from them. They just keep
sitting there, all deathlike.
Joshua is staring into space.
DARYL
(looking at Joshua)
Ah...you’re right, Jones.
Gives me the creeps too.
JONES
Well, I wouldn’t worry about it
much. This guy won’t be coming out
of St. Lucy for a while.
(laughing)
I just hope they kill me before I
ever end up like one of the crazies
in there!
DARYL
(laughing)
Ha! Same goes for me, too!
8 INT. MENTAL INSTITUTE - DAY 8
Joshua sits in the corner of his room with his knees to his
chest. He stares straight ahead at the ground in front of
him. He’s dressed in patient clothing with marks on his
wrists from fighting with handcuffs. He looks tired with
15.
blackened eyes and pale skin. He doesn’t move until a large
male nurse opens the door.
NURSE
You got a visitor.
JOSHUA
Visitor?
NURSE
Yeah a visitor, let’s go we don’t
have all day.
Joshua crawls to his feet and follows the nurse out the
door. They continue down a hallway. All around them are
patients walking around. Joshua follows him through a
security door and into a room with a telephone next to a
glass window. He sits down in a chair facing the window and
waits, staring at the ground in front of him. On the other
side of the glass Ted walks in. For the first time we see
emotion stirring within Joshua as he reaches for the phone
keeping his eyes on Ted.
TED
Hey Josh.
JOSHUA
What do you want?
TED
Just wanted to check on you. I
heard they put you in here a couple
weeks ago.
JOSHUA
Don’t you mean you?
TED
What?
JOSHUA
What you mean to say is you put me
in here. In a roundabout way that
is of course.
(Pulls out a cigarette)
It all stared with you but now it’s
down to me.
(Motions guard for lighter)
So was it a guilty conscious that
brought you.
16.
TED
You’ve got it wrong. I’m here for
you. I’m worried about you Josh.
You have to know I didn’t kill her.
JOSHUA
I saw you, I saw you stab her with
that little smirk on your face. I
know what you did.
(Begins moving closer to
glass)
You did this to me. You put me in
this hell. You deserve this, you
belong here, not me.
(Leans away from glass)
You need to make this right.
TED
How?
JOSHUA
Tell them the truth.
TED
I didn’t do it.
JOSHUA
I know you did it. I saw you.
(standing up)
TED
I was home in bed Josh. You need to
realize this.
JOSHUA
It was you. I know it was you. That
fucking smirk, I know that fucking
smirk.
(begins banging phone into
glass)
You belong here! You belong here!
That fucking smirk!
(nurses grab him and take him
away)
You got the wrong man! That fucking
smirk. You did it all Teddy boy.
TED
(Shaking head)
Josh...they found your stash of
pills in the garage. I know you
don’t want to believe you did it,
but the facts are there Joshua. You
(MORE)

TED (cont’d)
stopped taking your medicine. You
knew you needed it. Why did you
stop?
JOSHUA
I stopped taking it because it was
making me act different. I didn’t
like what it was doing to me. It
was having an effect on Sarah and
I’s relationship. I couldn’t stand
to have anything come in between
us. I still didn’t kill her. You
know it was you. Just say it!
TED
The medicine was to ensure that an
outbreak like this would be
avoided. That’s why you were on it.
Dammit Joshua, you needed it! Quit
casting blame on others! you made
the decision to stop taking the
medicine and consequently you took
your wife’s life. I’m done having
you cast blame on me. Be
accountable for what you did
Joshua. I can’t believe you would
actually try to put this on me...
Ted gets up and walks out.
9 INT. MENTAL INSTITUTE ROOM - NIGHT 9
JOSHUA lies on his bed on top of the sheets staring at the
ceiling. We can hear rain outside and slight thunder. He’s
beginning to sweat as he closes his eyes. He falls asleep
and dreams of the night his wife dies. He sees himself in
place of Ted with the same smirk on his face. He stands
above her, and as he drives a knife into her chest he wakes
up.
JOSHUA
Sarah!
He sits up facing the window, squeezing the bed sheets below
him.
JOSHUA
It’s just a dream. A dream. It’s
this place, not you. That smirk,
goddamn that smirk.
18.
Joshua pulls out a cigarette and put it in his mouth. He
doesn’t light it and leaves it dangling in the corner of his
mouth while he mumbles.
JOSHUA
That goddamn Ted. I know he-
Joshua stands up and walks to the mirror over the sink. He
looks at himself with a sudden overwhelming fear.
JOSHUA
I know that face. Never cared for
it. It was you that night creeping
around. You come home late see the
wife’s in bed. You go to the
kitchen and get the knife. Lie down
in bed and wait.
Joshua grabs tightly to the sink below him. He begins
shaking it trying to tear it from the wall. Suddenly he
bashes his head into the mirror. Joshua steps back and looks
at himself through the shattered glass. Blood drains into
the sink. Joshua begins pounding his head and fists into the
mirror and walls. Outside a nurse calls to unlock his room.
NURSE II
I need keys to room fifteen! We
have a situation!
GUARD
I’m coming!
The guard fumbles with his keys while Joshua continues to
bash his body into the mirror. Joshua falls back into the
corner soaked in blood. He grabs a piece of glass off the
floor. As the guard makes it in, he cuts his neck. The nurse
rushes in and grabs his throat.
NURSE II
I need a doctor! Now!
The guard rushes out to get help. The nurse holds Joshua in
her arms staring into his eyes.
NURSE II
It’s gonna be ok, it’s gonna be ok.
The guard bursts in with a group of nurses and doctors with
a stretcher. They place him on the stretcher and take off
quickly. We see Joshua looking into the air while being
rushed down a hallway. He’s staring at the ceiling with a
smile on his face. He closes his eyes and everything goes
white.
I choose this outfit based on different pictures I found of mental patients during the 1960’s. Our lead character Joshua would wear this during the last two scenes. During these scenes we see Joshua placed in an insane asylum after being transferred from the prison. I choose all white scrubs and shoes much like the pictures I found. I believe this will also heighten the effect of the final scene when Joshua kills himself.
This is the outfit worn by Joshua’s wife Sara in the first scene. I wanted to make her out to be a classic 1960’s housewife. It also portrays a since of innocence making her murder much worse a crime. She would wear this while preparing dinner and coming home from the store.

This is the front of the house we would use in this script. We would see this in the first scene as Joshua returns home from work to find Sara unloading groceries. This is a good home since it was originally built in the 60’s. It’s also located in a suburb style neighborhood, which would be good for such a violent crime.
This would be the garage we would use in the first scene. We would also use it as the location that Joshua hides his pills in a toolbox. It works well because it’s small but it connects directly to the kitchen.
This is the kitchen we would use as Joshua and Sara’s kitchen. We would see them putting away groceries and Sara preparing dinner. We would probably better light the room and de modernizes many things but these were the original cabinets built in 1962.
This would be the living room used in the scene where Joshua watches television while Sara cooks dinner. This would be a good set up due to the fact that the kitchen is directly connected. We would probably darken the lighting.
This would be the bedroom of Joshua and Sara. This scene would be used during the turning point of the story when Joshua kills Sara in her sleep.

Soundtrack
1. Cristofori’s Dream – David Lanz
This piano ballad seems like it would serve a good purpose as the credits were rolling at the beginning of the film. It’s light, but a little mysterious, and would be good at building a little bit of tension before the film kicks off. Also, being a longer song, it could come back throughout the movie during different moods and areas of tension in the film.
2. I Want You Back – Jackson 5
Some good old Michael Jackson that would go well playing in the background of their dinner and unpacking of groceries. It’s just fun and upbeat, and would be good for cooking and a fun evening.
3. Flamenco Sketches – Miles Davis
Some light jazz that would be played in the background while Joshua and Sarah are getting ready for bed, brushing their teeth, talking, and kissing before the lights fade.
4. Karma Police – Radiohead
This rocking, creepy-ish song would work well playing in the background while Joshua is realizing that he is really the one who killed Sarah, and perhaps playing over the top of him killing himself in his cell at the end of the film.
5. I Miss You – Blink 182
This song would be used to play during the closing credits of the song. I think it captures the kind of mood and feeling that the movie ends on, with this overwhelming sadness, song lightly meandering around with a soft, simple melody. It also does not have an abrupt end, but rather just fades off into the distance.
